Cooking for my hungry babymama @alicexpecting
“well, that’s good at least, for the family that is. i’m sure it was a bit tiring on you.” rosalie responded, rubbing her hands together to form a bit of heat to warm her up. texas wasn’t really a cold state, but the weather had dipped a little during winter and it wasn’t something the native was used to. “probably just spending it with the family in matching pj’s and watching white christmas while we open presents so basically the same thing as every year.”
“A bit but the end result was well worth the effort.” He murmured in reply. “Are you cold? I can lend you my sweater if you’re chilled?” He continued a little worriedly. “Ah that sounds lovely. A wonderful holiday. After all you have a fun year ahead so good to get some rest now, hmmm?”
Quinn frowned at the decaf order, but said nothing in protest. Even though they felt they more than earned that little jolt of caffeine, thank you very much. Enough. Nothing too stressful at work. I’m listening, Mom. They appreciated that Gus was trying, really. Most doctors saw Quinn could speak, and just went from there. It was nice to not be the one who needed things repeated a couple times now. Headache, nauseous sometimes, I’ll live. Thus far they hadn’t noticed any symptoms the internet called concerning. And, yeah, fault them for it, but they’d been almost obsessively googling this stuff. There wasn’t exactly a wealth of knowledge to be found in BFE, Texas. Other than asking Gus, and he’d probably google it too. Doctors did that, right?
Doctor Mom. He signed back, although it was still slow. He was getting better though. Water helps. Sleep. Remember to eat. he repeated eat three times until he got it right. Quinn’s situation was rare but not completely unique. Gus had already consulted with a doctor in California who had several patients like Quinn. So he was confident that Quinn was on the right medication that was not contraindicated under the circumstances. How is work?
CELESTE looked at him as she let out a small laugh. “i’m sure you can come back from the treacherous trauma,” she joked, laying a hand on his shoulder in a feign sympathetic way. “i’m sure this could spark some kind of horror movie you know. the creepy doll that finds it’s way into the doctor’s office and begins to possess the patients, causing everyone to go crazy. million dollar idea right there if it hasn’t been made yet.” she added with a shrug. “sounds like a plan.”
“I’m forging ahead. Lots of therapy and drugs.” He returned teasingly. “Oh my god, why are you making it worse? I do need to sleep at some point, you know?” He laughed out as she put forward a more terrifying idea about the evil doll. Leaning in he dusted a kiss over her cheek. “Seriously, text me. We’ll have you over and you can find out all the details, miss nosy pants.”
MARNIE put up her hands in defeat as she let out a laugh. “hey, that’s about all i got. went to school with one of his daughters and she hates him, so she laid out all of his dirty laundry. i don’t know how his wife stays with him.” she smiled. “so good, i can’t wait to have it next christmas once i get the bun out of me,” there wasn’t much she missed while being pregnant except her nightly glass of wine. “i think i have better names than that, i’ll probably end up sticking to family names, just haven’t settled on one yet. vix isn’t too terrible although to me, it seems more like a boy name but i guess the gender on the name can be debated since there’s a theory that all of santa’s reindeer are female.”
“One of his daughters? Wow, I can’t imagine how mortified she must be.” He shook his head in amusement. “Of course the reindeer are female - males have the big antlers, don’t they? Besides only women could tolerate driving around a man all night long.” He returned, laughing as he did so. “Next year you’ll be a momma. I’m sure you are excited?”
Alice couldn’t imagine spending more than one Christmas away from her family, much less spending the day working. As much of a workaholic as she was, Christmas was the time of year that she always let herself relax. Maybe she had finally found the one person that worked harder than her. “Yeah, I guess we do,” she caught his eye and gave him a small smile, pouring the carrots from the cutting board onto a plate. “Really?” she raised her eyebrows, “That’s great. What did they say?” she asked, walking over to him to hand him the plate. “I told mine a week ago. They were… less than thrilled.”
“We do ... try a few things out before the baby is old enough to know what it is supposed to be.” He murmured quietly, still in awe that by this time next year he would be a father. Gus accepted the plate and then turned to look at her. “I’m sorry. I know this wasn’t what you wanted and I can’t imagine how hard that was for you.” He continued, “But my family is over the moon. I think they were convinced no woman would be foolish enough to take me on. I didn’t tell them the circumstances. They are assuming you are my girlfriend, have been for a while and so on. I couldn’t bring myself to correct them. I hope that’s okay.”
MARNIE offered a soft smile with a small shrug. “i know a thing or two about some of the locals. like mayor donaldson if for sure sleeping with his secretary, but who knows? could just be local gossip.” she hummed. “they are probably more excited for me, my mom has already taken off a few weeks of work just to be around.” her parents weren’t the most excited when marnie planned on having herself inseminated, mainly because she was still decently young and single, but the farther along she got the more her parents warmed up to the idea of becoming grandparents and helping out. “have you never had bailey’s and hot chocolate? literally my go-to drink during the holidays, although i’m having to pass it up this year,” she added. “i mean, that’s pretty bad. if i was going to do holiday themed names i’d probably stick with like holly or joy or noel.”
Gus snorted and gave a shrug, “Everyone knows that. Honestly he literally tells people himself. Man’s so promiscuous that I feel like I should staple the condoms to his dick.” He shook his head, “My family are teetotalers. Wouldn’t dream of it and once I left home, I preferred the hard stuff. But I confess you aren’t the first person to recommend it so I should really give it a whirl.” He shrugged lightly, “I hope you are aiming for better names than that. I did feel rather sorry for the girl named Cupid. Vixen I heard got shortened to Vix which is actually not bad.”
CELESTE chuckled softly. “do you need psychological help for your trauma? i’m sure i could recommend you to someone,” she joked, looking at the man. “i’m sure by now it’s long gone, unless it’s lurking around your building now.” she cocked her head slightly, bringing her arms to cross over her chest. “sounds like my kind of gal, i’m sure i’ll run into her sooner or later.”
“Obviously but I must be manly and deny my trauma and soldier forth.” He murmured, laughing as he did so. He pretended to shudder lightly, “I don’t need that image in my head thank you very much, you little monster.” He teased as he approached the counter. He accepted the food and paid quickly. “Listen. Text me and we’ll do lunch or something and I’ll tell you the whole story.”
ᴛʜᴇ ᴄᴀꜰᴇ ᴡᴀꜱ ᴀ ꜰʀᴇQᴜᴇɴᴛ place that rosalie went to. they had amazing everything; coffee, tea, muffins, bagels, the works and after finals week she felt like she deserved to treat herself to a small iced coffee and an everything bagel. walking into the rustic place, she got in line and immediately saw a familiar face aka the doctor she visited for her appointments. “ oh my goodness hi! happy holidays! “ she ecstatically answered, smiling brightly. “ i’ve been doing really good, actually. what about you? “
“I am good thank you. Just had a rather long delivery but everyone is well and that’s all I can wish for.” He nodded appreciatively. He didn’t mention that she was coming in for an appointment in January as this would be a breach of confidentiality but he looked her over, “So any fun plans for the holidays? Family visits?”
— “ next time you buy something too big for your oven, call me. between you, me, natalia, and peter’s dad, i’m sure we can find something to do with it, ” she chuckled. “ i am absolutely positive that we won’t be a christmas delivery. i’m just about to reach my six month mark, right ? my clients have worked with me to make sure i’m not ever over-working, too, ” she grinned. “ he learned how to vacuum. because someone told us that her kid always slept with the vacuum… do you think i can convince him to do all of the vacuuming for the rest of his childhood ? ”
“Okay okay ... fair enough. I’ll keep that in mind.” He replied, laughing quietly as he did so. “That’s right. Multiples often come early though so keep that in mind. The human body is meant to produce one child at a time. Everything else is an aberration. Therefore, I expect you to take the time to rest, put your feet up and minimize stress.” He cautioned, an old lecture but one that tripped from his lips with ease. “And no ... he will eventually abandon the vacuum. Sorry.”
Alice glanced up as Gus entered the kitchen, instantly noticing how well the man’s new outfit fit him. Before he could catch her staring, she quickly looked back down at the carrots she was slicing. At his question, she felt her heart sink, but did her best to answer him normally. “Well, most of my family lives in Massachusetts, so we usually get together at someone’s house on Christmas Eve to have dinner and exchange presents. And on Christmas Day, we see whatever movie’s out.” Alice purposely left out the fact that this Christmas would be the first one in her entire life that she didn’t spend with her family. When she had told them she was pregnant out of wedlock, they were disappointed, to say the least. They hadn’t uninvited her, but she knew she wouldn’t be able to stand all the stares and whispers behind her back if she partook in their usual holiday traditions. “How about yours?” she asked, eager to take the attention off herself.
“Ah ... my family is on the other coast. Washington State.” He replied quietly, “But I’ll admit that I haven’t been home for a Christmas in years. I usually stay on call at the Clinic.” He asked quietly as he began to put on the rice before beginning to cut up the chicken. “But my parents do church on Christmas Eve. Open presents on Christmas morning followed by brunch. Followed by huge Christmas dinners and so forth. It was always a bit excessive I thought. So I guess we get to decide how we want our Christmases to be.” He looked at her, cleared his throat and continued, “I told my parents today. They are ... well to call them excited would be an understatement.”
— “ add a five-year-old who wants to eat everything too, and i suppose it must be. although, i think i have enough self-control to not buy anything i can’t physically cook in mine or my sister’s houses, ” nik chuckled. “ oh, i’m good, i’m good. i think my feet might fall off soon, but everything’s been running smoothly — except for the fact that i’m going to have two kids going through their terrible twos at the same time, ” she said, although she was smiling widely. “ i think my son is the only person more excited to have my pregnancy end, ” she chuckled.
“Oh rub it in.” Gus retorted with a laugh. “I’m glad.... you need to make sure you get plenty of rest right now. Because soon you won’t get much at all. We want them to cook for as long as possible! You are not permitted to be one of my Christmas deliveries!” He scolded in a teasing fashion. “Your son is going to regret that wish soon enough.”
