“Sure you can wake up everyday in a beautiful country with wonderful scenery and enjoy the brilliant weather it gives you. Or you can wake up in Australia every day and miss out on all of that,” he teased. Honestly who would want to wake up everyday and have perfect weather, how boring.
“It’s true, man, I must be crazy, huh?” he laughed, his warm breath filling the cold air. “It’s fresh, the cold definitely bites at your skin and wakes you up. I’ll give it that.”

Eden folded her arms, always sad when Gerry spoke about their relationship. There was nothing wrong with them. He was a nice guy. But he wasn’t the right guy. And she’d had to be honest about that. “Something like that. It’s my passion… you know that. My one and only.”
Gerry often blamed himself, wondered if he’d moved too fast. If he’d pushed her. If he’d been too much. He glanced up at her, nodding. “Your one and only. I suppose, I give everything to the hospital now.”

“You needn’t get used to it, just enjoy it whilst it’s here.” Cecelia said with a wide smile, wrapped up warm in coat, scarf, hat, boots, gloves and even thermal tights, she hated being caught unprepared, even in unpredictable weather. “The beauty is worth the cold, though I’m surprised most of it hasn’t been used in the most harsh kind of war.” A cheeky sideways glance to her companion was the only explanation she gave.
“Ah, be positive about it,” he laughed gently, holding his arms around himself against the cold. “I can’t deny, it looks beautiful. Especially fresh snow. I enjoy watching it come down from the window,” Gerry replied, smiling as she looked over at her. “That is very deep.”

Penny brushed the snow off of the heel of her boot. “Neither do i, but neither was i. I was not made for anything cold or wet. And these are designer.” She took his hand, accepting the help. “The sun sounds glorious right now. A nice sunny winter.”
“Aye, you and me both. I’m too delicate for snow too. Though I don’t look quite as graceful as you do,” he smiled a her gently, helping her up the steps. “I can’t say I’m up to date with my designers though. I’ve had these trusty boots a good few years now,” he gave a laugh. “I mean, I used to think winter days were chilly, I take that back now,” Gerry joked.

Penny hated walking in the snow, she hated driving in the snow. Although it was beautiful and living in a small town often meant that she didn’t have to drive anywhere. Still, her ankle boots were not appreciating the wet or the cold. She pulled a face, holding herself on the steps of the shop. “I actually can’t feel my feet and I think you Australian’s have the right idea.”
Gerry noticed the familiar brunette, offering a smile as she approached him. She looked as cold as he did, even more so in her dainty boots. “I don’t think they were made for snow, Penny,” he laughed gently, offering a hand to help her up the steps. “What living in the sun?”

Quint looked down, nodding. He didn’t want to get into everything with Eloise. “I don’t know, you may have come here in a sick way to punish yourself. I don’t know you that well.”
Gerry gave a small laugh, the guy was perceptive and clearly had his own baggage. “True, you don’t know me or more story. But yeah, long story short, I had some big things happen in my life,” he said, giving a sad smile.

“I’d offer to knit you some mittens, but I do not want to sound like my grandmother”, Isla rolled her eyes at her own terrible joke but then fell in step beside him. Shelley was in front of them, almost disappearing in the heaps of snow, “I agree with you though, it is terrible for traffic. A problem I felt in London much more than here in Woodcrest. In this small town you can at least get somewhere by your own feet”
“If you offered to knit me some mittens, I’d be grateful and not judge at all,” Gerry laughed, shaking his head. “Yeah, it was the same when I lived in Surrey. I definitely feel the difference since moving here. Your dog might not be able to see her own feet though,” he joked.

“How long have you been here?” Jesse asked with a laugh watching the snow fall gently as they walked. “Gotta layer up my name, get yourself some thermals and you can’t even feel the cold. You gotta love it though, right? Way the cold just wakes you up and makes everything look fresh..”
“A few years now but the cold gets me every year,” he laughed at himself. “I think coffee wakes me up just fine and that’s warm,” Gerry joked. “No, I get you. It is fresh. Snow looks kind of pretty too. The beach was pretty fresh back in Australia. Waves woke you up.”

“Maybe you did, although we will never know.” She smiled slightly, although her smile faded at his words. “I guess so… you don’t get drama’s quite as huge in an art gallery and that’s saying something because artists like to make a fuss.”
“Yeah, guess we won’t,” he nodded, giving the girl a sad smile. “They fuss over the colours not being right? I always used to like how you spoke about art.”

“Please do not feel silly!”, she raised both her hands, palms outstretched towards the empty seat across from her, pen still locked between her index and midde finger, “Take a seat. I am not usually one for company but when I have it I often realise how good it feels, you know, to not be alone so much” She was babbling now, pressing her lips together to stop herself from talking even more. “And if you need someone to sit here and just be silent after a rough day? I do not mind being that person. It could be good for my karma”, Eloise smiled now, hoping to lighten the mood and save this conversation from all the awkwardness she felt.
“Well, that’s kind of you, I really appreciate that,” he said gently, nodding and taking the seat across from her. “No, I get that more than you know. I’m here alone, I work a lot. I have a busy day... then go home alone. I understand what you’re saying, company is nice sometimes,” Gerry replied, realising he was now rambling. “Good for your karma, huh? That sounds like a story.”

“Yes several times actually, I have a sister so i’ve heard it quite a bit.” He chuckled once again. “Maybe a girl. Who knows. I like you… you might be the only person who hasn’t tried to persuade me otherwise.”
“Ah, a sister. Mine would probably say the same at times but she’s back in Australia,” he laughed a little. “Well, maybe is a good place to build on. If someone is happy why persuade them otherwise? I came here looking for happy, didn’t I?”

“I’m just not a very Punny person.” She joked in return. “Mmmm and you? What is bad depending on you?” She raised a brow, wanting to know how he really thought of her.
“You really just said that? Maybe I did have an influence on you with the dad jokes after all,” he laughed a little. “People who let you down? I’m a doctor... so the worst things there is a bad day.”

“Well, I cannot help you with getting used to it, but I must admit it has some good sides to it, too. And there is always a way to help with the cold”, Isla smiled. Her day had been rather eventful with the library closing down due to no one gettting there and her kids staying home at school. “I am often angry at snow because it takes so much out of my day, but you know, it does look kind of beautiful does it not?”
“Oh it’s not all bad, it was pretty exciting the first time I saw it,” he laughed a little. “It definitely slows things down though. Traffic does not like snow,” he nodded. “It does look beautiful, especially watching from a window. I don’t mind that too much. I would like it more if my hands didn’t feel like they were going to fall off.”

“You know me.” She lifted her hot chocolate, taking a long sip. She was grateful for Belle and her maternal ways. “I don’t think snow is dark, i actually think snow is light both in colour and mass.” She smiled. “Ah, what is bad?”
“Hmm, in a way.” He gave a slight laugh, he thought he’d known her once. “Ah, couldn’t let me have my pun,” he joked slightly. “Well, I guess you could say bad is dependent on the person.”

Eden’s eyes glanced up, then back down to the snow under her feet. “A few people have said the same thing about me, although it was a different context.” She sighed. “Hello Gerry.”
“Well, that was definitely as deep and dark as this snow on a Monday morning,” he laughed gently. “Hi, Eden. Bad day?”
“I don’t think this Australian will ever get used to snow,” Gerry laughed, crunching the fresh white snow under his feet as he walked. “I’m so cold.”

Penny smiled at his words. “Big softie then? I suppose i can understand tht. We all have work versions of ourselves.” She nodded, glad that she was distracting the man from his bad day. “I suppose. I know all of the corner shops. I’m just that cool.” She shrugged. “It’s more of a hobby. I suppose as i’ve got older it’s just become that. You know it’s hard getting a novel published. And i do love the inn.”
“That’s definitely a way to describe me,” he laughed gently. “Yeah, yeah, in way, it’s who I have to be at work. That makes sense,” Gerry nodded, unable not to smile slightly as he looked at her. “Hey, knowing all the corner shops comes in handy when you need milk,” he joked. “Well, hobby or not. It’s something you enjoy and part of you. And you never know, one day it just might become more.”
