“Well... I... I was walking and texting... and I tripped. My uh phone, well it’s having a lovely bath in there. Could my day get any worse?” she half laughed, flopping on the side of the wall.

Penny sighed, trudging through the mud. Woodcrest was certainly picturesque in places... but she couldn’t say the rural parts were for her. She put her fingers in her mouth whistling for her king charles spaniel to come back to her. “Nancy!” She called again, chasing after the pup. “Nancy. Down girl.” She directed. “Sit.” She held her hand up to the other person. “I am so sorry. We’re still training... and we’re still very excited to make new friends. The puppy. Not me.”

Sliding the final trays of cupcakes into the display case, Laura let a tired sigh escape her lips before making her way over to the front door of the bakery. Turning the lock, she flipped the sign from ‘Closed’ to ‘Open’ before making her way back behind the counter and taking a seat at the register. Her morning employee had called in, so she found herself in for a much longer day than she anticipated, getting through the morning rush by herself. Although Woodcrest wasn’t a huge town, the bakery was often packed to capacity in the morning, with patrons in search of morning pastry and coffee. Hearing the bell above the door jingle, she stood, putting on a smile to greet her first customer of the day. “Good morning!” Laura called. “How may I help you this morning?”

there they sat, smack-dab in the middle of the paved pathway. their knees were drawn up, their face buried in their hands, and their meringue was... on the ground, next to them. “...isn’t there a... physics law about this? the whole thing about how everything that falls lands face-down?” wren dragged their fingers down to their chin and peeked upwards. “...i hand-whipped that meringue. it was–– um, my first successful attempt. by hand, i mean... i just wanted to get some good lighting for my story.”

Stepping into the bookstore, Colton adjusted his glasses as his eyes scanned the rows of shelving. Taking in a deep breath, he basked in the smell of books, one of his favorite scents in the world. He’d come to check out the store’s selection of young adult novels, hoping to find something exciting to choose as his students’ group read project for the semester. “I hope they have something- I’m sure they do.” He signed to himself before turning towards a nearby figure. Using his voice, yet still signing simultaneously, he asked, “Excuse me, but you wouldn’t happen to know where I’d find the Young Adult section?”

Belle leaned against the counter, covering her face with her hand. “Regret. Such regret for that gym class. What was I thinking? I’m aching already,” she laughed at herself as she groaned. “And I like exercise that was just ouch.”
“Okay, so hear me out. You’d be a great help. I’m just asking people to give me their favourite meals and what they’d like to see on a menu,” Belle rambled, tapping her phone in her hand before saying the next words. She was hyper and bubbly, excited about cooking in the inn restaurant. “I just want to impress,” she let out an awkward laugh.
“I don’t think this Australian will ever get used to snow,” Gerry laughed, crunching the fresh white snow under his feet as he walked. “I’m so cold.”
