It’s been forever BUT: last weekend I was at Anime North dressed as Revali fro, Breath of the Wild and it was one of my most fun experiences yet! I didn’t get a chance to post an wip pics here while I was making it as I usually do, so here’s just a few shots of the finished product. Kudos to the photographers (these were found on various places online).
I love the birb man and was so thrilled to be able to get in character for the weekend.

Little Mac punches in at anime north!

As a trans man facing difficulties atm and also a fond cosplayer of Little Mac (who heard of you while cosplaying him at a convention this July!), I needed to tell you that you are an envy and an inspiration. It's awesome to know you find Mac inspiring just as I do, that plucky, loveable dork who has the courage and the persistence to do what feels right despite facing ridicule and other challenges. All the best to you! If you swing by other Toronto cons, maybe we'll fistbump someday. :P
Hey anon - thanks so much for saying so. It’s really amazing that people can connect over characters like that...I guess that’s a big part of what makes them so great, huh? You’ve described exactly how I feel about him too, and it’s an honour that you find inspiration in both him and I. We’re all in this together, you know? Were you at Con Bravo this July then? I regularly attend that and Anime North, but I hang around smaller cons sometimes. And I’m sorry to hear about difficulties you may be experiencing...I understand the feeling. stop using your dash attack on shield jesus christ
Yeah dash attack is actually super unsafe on shield, as are his smash attacks unless they’re spaced really well (usmash is fairly safe on block near the ledge because it can make them slip off at high percents). Ftilt and dtilt are much safer defensive options due to low cooldown, range and slight shield pressure but they also need to be spaced well. In my experience utilt is also fairly safe in some scenarios but less so than his other tilts. Dtilt is probably the safest defensive option (it comes out on frame 6 for goodness sake) and ftilt is probably the best offensive option. Utilt is good for catching shield drops because it strings into itself. Better options on shielding opponents who are camping the ledge are probably ftilt for the pressure, roll cancelled grab due to the longer range or a pivot grab because people who pull that sort of crap usually don’t expect tech like that. Dash attack is probably your absolute WORST option and you’re going to get shielded, grabbed and tossed offstage.
Idunno if anyone reading this cares about competitive Mac stuff/frame data but there you go.

Too cute not to get its own post!
I was walking around the dealer’s room at Anime North and heard a man calling “Hey Little Mac, we’ve been looking for you! Can you take a picture with my son?” and I say sure. Out steps this totally adorable little referee Mario who then grabs my glove, tosses it up and declares me the winner! This was one of my absolute favourite moments of the weekend, and cons in general - putting a smile on a kid’s face is what makes me feel like a “champ”. So happy I found Michael McQuiad, who took the photo.
Bunch of pics! Still getting over how awesome this past weekend at Anime North was, and how incredible it was to be in-character as Little Mac. As you can tell from a couple of these photos, I’m actually a really small guy so it was extra special. :3
I went over it a bit more in another post, but being an FTM guy made being called ‘the real life Little Mac’ even more special. I’m just really happy!

It was so, so much fun to be Little Mac all weekend long at Anime North, and I just thought this one shot in particular was too awesome not to post on its own.

Today I physically transcended from being ‘that guy who looks like his main’ to actually becoming Little Mac. This con meant a lot to me (Anime North 2015). Maybe it’s cheesey, but I’ve really been looking up to Mac as a character for the last little while. Sure he doesn’t really have a concrete personality, he’s mostly an avatar for the player and doesn’t say a whole lot. But what he stands for, and his attitude is what makes it: even if he’s a tiny guy and no one believes in him, he can do it and show what he’s got. As a trans guy, I’m 5″4 and a little fellow myself, so his message kind of really hits home. It was cathartic, in a way, to use what’s usually a source of discomfort as a source of positiveness. I feel that way when I play him in Smash 4, and when I cosplay as him. Hope everyone else had a nice con as well. ^^
