Review: Georg Schneider's Wiesen Edel-Weisse Ale
This was a fantastic beer. All ingredients are certified organic and it showed. The flavor reminded me a bit like a Hoegaarden but better. With a fruity yet hoppy taste and a smooth finish. This is a beer once poured into a pint glass, goes down fast!
Food Pairing: I could definitely drink this beer with a nice piece of salmon or a really good salmon or fish dip and crackers.
Rating: *** 1/2
I would definitely recommend this beer to anyone that is a fan of Hoegaarden or even Blue Moon. You will like it! I would also maybe even recommend throwing in a piece of citrus with it if your into that and remember... life is short, Drink A Cold One!
First Review... Hirter Morchl Dark
So today I went to my first beer tasting at the House of Glunz in Chicago. The beer was Hirter Morchl Dark from Austria. The tasting was actually a combined wine and beer tasting with the Hirter Morchl being the only beer represented at the tasting.
Quick review of the House of Glunz: Very nostalgic, very old world feel with a nice and knowledgeable staff and a great selection of wines and beers.
Now on to the beer:
I immediately thought of root beer when it hit the palette with a subtle hint of cocoa and malts. Even though it is a darker colored lager, it is actually very light and refreshing.
Food Pairing: I would definitely consider drinking this beer while eating a bratwurst or hot dog and even a good burger. It is light enough to go with any of these foods.
I will definitely consider this beer when I can find it in liquor stores or bars.
Rating: ****
