"Pronto llegarĆ”, el dĆa de mi suerte, sĆ© que antes de mi muerte, seguro que mi suerte cambiarĆ”..."
This one sparks joy ā”
i hate that every time i look for color studies and tips to improve my art and make it more dynamic and interesting all that comes up are rudimentary explanations of the color wheel that explain it to me like im in 1st grade and just now discovering my primary colors
āred and green are opposites š„°ā cool now how do i paint a tree with pinks and blues without it looking like a childās finger painting or incongruous blobs of rainbow vomit
ok i canāt explain it very well but im looking for tips and techniques for rendering art like
with specifically the highlights and colors being hues that compliment each other, donāt distract from the scene, and make it more interesting/visually appealing
is it too much to ask
gonna drop some sources I have saved on Pinterest! I don't know if these all link back to the original sources so apologies for that
cohesive but still contrasting
This kind of talks about color and composition
This is a bit about landscape specifically
Values & composition
Contrast in composition
Balance in colors & values
This one's more for palette building but I think it's useful and can be applied to the other ones
Cohesion within compositions/lighting
"Chromatic fringe" - I also see people using this with shading, they bring in a transition color that is a different hue than the base color or shadow, it makes it so that less vibrancy is lost and it doesn't get muddy!
This one specifically has a lot of process behind the style of painting you're looking for!
Also one of my favorite artists who makes bright and colorful art like this is Not Sorry Art on TikTok & YouTube, her website is here and it's<3 my fav. She has some videos where you can see her process
With the oranges painting you put as an example, I noticed they painted the lighter values more toward yellow - they also exaggerated the hues of the undertones of the photo, so I'm guessing they either did it in their head or bumped the saturation up to get a closer look! I really love these paintings you shared and I definitely share your desire to paint/draw like that :)
thanks this is super helpful! /gen
If you'd like 2 Print books that I absolutely reccomend to every visual artist regardless of Media, Color and Light and Imaginative Realism by James Gurney are basically religious texts for artists, even the 3-D people because his understanding and explanation of how light and form work is that damn good.
If you're wondering about Mr. Gurney's chops:
James Gurney is the Dinotopia Guy (that link includes his Dinotopia books, prints and online classes too)
I'm rambling here because twitter is an absolute hellscape but like.
The idea that artists can ONLY interact with and use resources made by companies that "care about us" is an impossible standard that shouldn't be expected. Adobe wants to overcharge us every chance it gets. Twitter embraces NFT. Big brands have "contests" to be "featured" as their ads. If you want us to solely consume and use resources that "care" about artists, you are asking us to only use freeware programs that have limited features and never post our art online.
Am I thrilled with CSP using AI that could potentially be stealing from online search engines? No. Does that mean I am going to stop using a program I paid 80+ real dollars for? Absolutely fucking not. I shouldn't have to. I am a professional artist who earns bare minimum what i need to survive because I can make it consistently and quickly. Taking the time to learn a new software will cost me money. This choice is NOT on me and has NOTHING to do with my art.
What if I do switch to a new program, and then 10 months down the line they add AI features too? Do I switch again? Am I expected to go back to MS Paint so my art remains "ethical"? This standard is ridiculous.
Expecting people to be held accountable for the products they consume is inherently ludicrous. Everything is monopolized and nothing is ethical to consume.
Like, yes AI art has MAJOR problems right now that need to be addressed and regulated by law to protect creators. I agree with that. I agree it's too early for them to be jumping in on this and expect it to go well. I am aware that the AI in question is unsafe for the potential they see in it, but that does not mean that I am going to start from square one just to make sure people aren't clutching their pearls at me.
When I got into fandoms long ago I was told by a wise old sage: The fan artist isn't to be pestered by such and such. You make art and we are blessed. Don't like the art? Scroll away~ That's it. I will not have this, you can't tell me we're about to dictate "ethical canvas". It's against the 'code'! I have hope this isn't about to become anything but another old post to scroll past that becomes nothing.
I forgot I have to be active here so hereās my Twitter tutorial on how to draw folds I made a while back to help a friend!
You can find the finished drawing here

After that horrific display of dancing in preparation of the ball, he decided the king needed some proper lessons for the art. As time passed, it became more of a hobby than teachings.
He would never admit it, but the knight enjoys every moment they spend with there fingers locked (even when the king - who pretends not to notice the otherās flustered appearance - accidentally steps on his foot).

Every once in a while I am reminded that a lot of side media (mostly the mangas) love to depict the mages with Christian imagery specifically-- Tarou, the artist of Manmaru Nikki, has drawn them with crucifixes in some capacity multiple times. And honestly that just begs the question: Are they Jatholic? HOW Jatholic???
What is it even like to be an orthodox monotheist on Popstar anyway? Are the mages baptized? Is Hyness a voluntary celibate? Are they worrying abt missing mass while in Another Dimension? Have any of them had their Communion? Does Zan think the secularization of Jhristmas is a corruption of Jamba ideals??? Does Francisca think the Jeaster Rabiroo is paganistic idol worship? How far are we talking this.
Just a bust of my sith inquisitor Bail!

"You are no longer licensed to use the software," Adobe told them.
Friendly reminder that GIMP does pretty much everything Photoshop does, and itās 100% free. Fuck DRM and the license culture, we have plenty of open source options available to us as a consumer.
Lightworks is a freeware video editor on par with Premiere
Blender is an excellent freeware 3D renderer, possibly better than After Effects
Lightzone to replace Lightroom
Inkscape to replace Illustratr
Audacity to replace Audition (I also received a free version of Pro Tools with my Scarlett Solo audio interface)
If Adobe is going to be greedy shitheads, then fuck āem. Donāt use their stuff. Freeware can be just as good, if not better, than Adobe CC.
reblog to save a digital arts major
Reblog to save an artist.
oh jEEZ
I will keep saying this: GIMP sucks butts.
- Medibang Paint and Fire Alpaca for more cartoon style illustration
- Krita for painting
- Clip Studio Paint (not free, but often on sale and cheap even at full price) is better than PS for art and Iām about to cut adobe entirely. Even does some photo editing.
- Paint Tool SAI (again, not free but cheap) old but good, thereās a ton of hacked copies around too. Not hard to get for free.
- Open Tunez for animation.
Iām currently using Affinity Photo and itās a great Photoshop alternative. One time fee only and itās not really expensive, plus supports PSD formats. Free trial available too! Davinci Resolve for video editing is amazing as well! :)
Another great art program to include in the list is the completely free, no download, browser recreation of photoshop, Photopea! It has the potential/customizability to be as robust as a full copy of photoshop while also being perfectly accessible to anyone looking to just do some quick edits with no strings attached.
Also, heads up to anyone using it,
As of July 5th 2021, Audacity is now considered a potential spyware security risk,
so please approach it with caution and do some research on the situation as things progress.
