hey dr. Minerva! hope you don’t mind the question. you mentioned the bwunda expedition earlier and it sent me down a bit of a research spiral (which is always a dangerous thing to do before going to work)
I ended up finding a few of your papers about it. including the one discussing the religious practices around the site, which was really fascinating. I realized halfway through though that while I understand pieces of what you’re studying, i’m Not Totally sure what the main goal of the expedition is supposed to be.
like is the focus primarily documentation and preservation, or are you trying to test a specific hypothesis about the mythology tied to the site?
also I will admit I enjoy reading papers written by people who are clearly very passionate about their subject. it makes the whole thing much harder to pretend i’m just “casually browsing research” and not fully invested lol
anyway, if you ever feel like explaining it to a curious engineer who wandered into the anthropology side of the internet, i’d love to hear more about it :)
Sorry, I fell asleep on my desk again! Perhaps I should stop taking overnighters like these. On a lighter note, however, my wonderful girlfriend greeted me with breakfast this morning 💕
Now rambling aside! I can't go into too much detail, but to summarize it shortly, it's a bit of both.
It's part archeological reasons, part documentation reasons, and part humanitarian reasons!
Assuming you have not read up on the articles yet, the innocent people of Bwunda is currently in dire need of aid, and there have been recorded signs of strange ecological phenomena happening in the surrounding jungles. The kind that's been draining resources from surrounding villages, said to have been the green poisoning their food and water.
My intuition tells me that this is from an archaic source, the work of something ancient.
And I'd want to see if I could find the root of the problem! wrestle the bull by its horns, if you will.
The only thing that's been preventing me from reaching this goal is simply from the lack of funding and support. So much paperwork to go through, so many government letters to petition, so much approval that needs to happen.
At least so far, my girlfriend has been handling half of that. We'll just have to hope that time is not against us.
