This blog in an archive for all the drone variants I have written and will write. If you have an idea for a drone variant then feel free to sent an ask.
Hello, I am the Archivist Nemo and welcome to the Drone Archetype Archive. This blog was created to store all the drone variants I have written or will write.
The askbox is open, I am happy to accept drone variant ideas or to answer any questions regarding preexisting variants. All I ask is that those who do send asks remain civil and mind your manners, asks will be seen to in a timely manner but keep in mind that I may fail to do so as I am not a machine (yet).
I am in frequent collaboration with @systemten, with them drawing art and adding lore to the drones I've written. Additionally, they are creating a worldbuilding project for the solar system that Copper9 belongs to.
Finally, @eldritchwriter346 has written a few drone variants of his own as well making a masterlist of various fanmade drones.

Overmatron Variant of the Arachnomancer Disassembly Model
The generation of organic matter through the usage of the Solver generally results in masses of flesh with rudimentary structures reminiscent of organs strewn about at random. This biomass is referred to as solverflesh. Once separated from the power of the solver, solverflesh is subject to rapid decomposition as the biomass is incapable of sustaining itself.
It is possible, with enough practice and mastery over the solver, to create proper organisms from solverflesh. Uzi Doorman, the current primary host of the solver, has begun to create such creatures in an attempt to restore the biosphere of Copper9 and to improve her control over the solver. First among her creations is the Carnis Slug, a very simple organism reminiscent of slugs that once dwelled on Earth, hench the name with added Latin to make it sound "kickass".
The Carnis Slug primarily takes the appearances of its namesake with a number of divergences which harkens to its eldritch origins. The carnis slug is able to grow up to 9 to 15 inches long and weight 2 to 6 pounds. Instead of eyestalks, a carnis slug has a cluster of 3 to 5 eyes at the front of its body. Around its mouth are tentacles which are used to pull food into its mouth. Carnis slugs are chemovores, they are capable of metabolizing hazardous chemical compounds into energy. Wild populations are key in helping scrub the toxic biosphere of Copper9 clean. They are extremely hardy organisms, capable of surviving low temperatures and can regenerate lost pieces of their bodies.
Carnis slugs are subject to sudden mutations due to their unstable generic makeup, most mutations that occur are harmful which result in the death of the individual. There are handful of mutant strains which have stabilized enough to become their own variants such a breed of carnis slug that consume metal to build their own shells, becoming more snail like. Another breed, named slugdogs, due to them gaining simple limbs and a higher degree of intelligence on par with dog, have become a popular house pet among the drones of Copper9.

This piece was inspired by this post written by @eldritchwriter346; I became particularly fixated on the part mentioning them being slug-like, due to slugs being one of my favorite animals.
Overmatron Variant of the Arachnomancer Disassembly Model
The Arachnomancer Disassembly Model are known to be extremely territorial. With most individuals willing to fight to the death to defend their nests and hunting grounds from members from any other disassembly drones. Paradoxically, they are also extraordinarily good hosts on the rare occasion they allow others into their nests. Composing a majority of these rare instances of hospitality is when two Arachnomancers come together to exchange base code as to undergo replication, the process of creating of a new drone. Due to their inclination for cannibalistic behavior, these code exchanges often end with one of the Arachnomancers being devoured. This does benefit the surviving Arachnomancer, as they gain a massive influx of materials which to fuel the creation process of their young as well as merging the devoured arachnomancer robo-arachnid swarm which bolsters hunting capabilities.
On average, an Arachnomancer will only undergo replication 0 to 2 times during their service life. This is due to them constructing around 50 to 100 new units within a single replication, though many of these young Arachnomancers are killed either from worker drones culling them, being eaten by other disassembly drones or being cannibalized by their siblings, also on occasion by their own parental unit. There are certain deviant individuals that will undergo replication dozens of times, each time with a different Arachnomancer who are devoured by the deviant individual. This causes the deviant to grow to prestigious size, often 3 to 5 times larger than an average Arachnomancer.
Once this transformation is complete, it triggers a radical change in behavior in all Arachnomancer within a vast area. Both the children of the deviant, now dubbed as an Overmatron, and unrelated arachnomancers will abandon their nests to migrate to the nesting site of the Overmatron. Once gathered, the arachnomancers will submit themselves to the will and service of the Overmatron and they shall begin to construct a massive web structure known as Stronghold, where the Overmatron shall reign from until her death.
These strongholds are massive threats, often playing host to hundreds of arachnomancers and their robo-arachnid swarms, which number in tens of thousands. A single stronghold is capable of picking an entire region clean of all drones, both worker and disassembly, in a few short years. Which after all food sources are exhausted, the stronghold will descend into chaos as the arachnomancers turn on each other, cannibalizing in an effort to survive. At the ends of this madness, the survivors will dissipate and migrate to new areas to find new hunting grounds and to build new nests. This marks the end of the stronghold and the reign of the Overmatron.

New lore on the Arachnomancer!
So- I did thinking- and realized Iâve never explained the base I go off of when doing the designs for DDâs and Solverâs!-, and since my first Solver design is planned to hit System Ten soon, I figured I might as well explain some stuff-, basically, me explaining the âbiologyâ for DDâs for several paragraphs lol- Iâll first go over the base, using the DD trios variant, and then Iâll go over the most extreme/different from the base DD variants!
[DD variants here have lore built up by both me and @nemoofunknownparadigm , and some of the bits and pieces here are inspired by @sicksucculentz âs posts!]
Disassembly Drones [Caedes Fucus]
capable of reaching heights anywhere from six to seven and a half feet, Disassembly Drones tend to be larger then their Worker counterparts, but they bear a cat like skeleton, allowing them to squeeze into any spot their head can fit in, a useful feature for a predator designed to hunt and kill.
they bear a more twisty and bendy spine then expected, partly because of their tails, but also because it allows them to rest in a quadrupedal stance with no issue, their necks can angle upwards more then a humans can, allowing them to have an upright head even when standing on hands and feet.
Being loud and confrontal predators, when chasing they can reach speeds that would make a cheetah jealous, and their fused to the fingertip claws both grip ice and snow with zero issue, and hold onto prey without worry of tearing out a claw or losing their grip., they tend to fight more in a cat fight like style, tussling and clawing at opponents, using their sharp fangs to puncture armor and their claws to grip, while they use their claws a lot, their teeth are their best weapon. They also will use their tails to whip crack at opponents faces, or to hit their opponents to stun them, their nanite acid is more so a last option, as should the opponent break the needle tip off while itâs embedded, acid will spill out, often times harming both DD and opponent.
their tails at a base level are a sturdy cable with a hollow channel in the middle, through which nanite acid runs through, it pools inside the âsyringeâ, which is more so a very fancy scorpion like Barb of sorts, the needle is barbed and its blade serrated, in order to cause maximum damage, and to make sure if they pull their tail out, itâs on their own terms-, the tail can function just fine at this base level, however itâs numb and somewhat feeling less, leaving it easier to accidentally injure, a healthy DD will often times have a thick layer of synthetic muscle like silicone fat packed around the tail, through which nerve cables run through, giving the tail feeling along with making it harder to server, as itâs a fat storage area the tail tends to bulk up first, however its powerful and strong, and doesnât loose speed even when bulky. It is strong enough to comfortably support a DDâs full weight, allowing them to comfortably sleep upside down, as to help avoid any unwanted ambushes while asleep.
Their wings are often times huge, being larger then they are tall, however this is not for feather surface area/lift, as their feathers are more so decorative, since the ion thrusters located at each elbow are what really does the work. Instead the wings are large for intimidation purposes, and so thereâs more of the razor sharp edged feathers to attack with if need be. The ion thrusters are incredibly powerful, allowing mid air hovering, and also allowing them to lift off the ground without their build having to be light or sleek, instead their built to hold onto weight, as their regeneration systems benefit from having excess materials to pull from, as a consequence their ion thrusters are designed to be able to lift them off the ground no matter what. The ion thrusters also act as eye spots in dark places, allowing them to appear bigger and more dangerous then they actually are, since even these beasts arenât the apex top of the chain predators-
Each individual has a unique scent to them, which smells off or stinky to Workers, and can trigger the prey drive of a Solver, but smells just fine to them, they recognize each other by these scents, and will mark objects and people by rubbing against them, which basically puts a neon sign of âFUCK OFFâ on the marked area, keeping it safe-, DDâs that have known each other for a while/are of the same Squad, tend to have at least one matching note to their scent, with twins tending to match in the underlying notes and only differ in the main/loudest note.
They tend to live in packs, being pretty social, and they actually will commune raise pups sometimes, with trusted pack members caring for the young while the parents go hunt. Packs are family units first and foremost, thereâs no âAlphaâ or âOmegaâ bullshit, instead the pack tends to be run by the Dam and Sire, aka the eldest mated pair, who act sort of as the parents of the group. Squads are more tight knit, within a pack thereâs often times at least one Squad, as for what they are, a Squad is a group of siblings within a five year age range of each other, although occasionally cousins will form Squads. Squads are bonded to each other, and live and hunt alongside one another, unlike most siblings these guys donât care how old they get, they remain on good terms and affectionate with each other, in extreme cases they will break apart due to negative circumstances, but a Squad is far more likely to disband from a death of a member. [J, V and N are a Squad!, at least, in my AU-]
while it varies from variant to variant, they tend not to process most organics well, meat is fine enough, although too much will give one a stomach ache, but other organics can cause issues, and some, such as honey, are deadly and will cause the drone equivalent of lockjaw/tetanus for the afflicted DD. Their casing also tends to alter depending on diet, rust and slag oil tends to cause dull and mottled casing, steel and iron and the like tends to just leave the casing as itâs normal shiny creamish white self, while gold/silver/copper will often leave streaks of itself across the casing in patterns, each one unique to the DD!
being high energy predators first and foremost, they are very hyperactive, but also very sleepy, like if you mixed a cat and a dog-. treadmills are their beloveds-, they also have a pretty high prey drive-, and will chase you if you run, and run if you chase!, wagging those little tails as they go, having great fun-., adults can and will be dramatic about being âdefeatedâ in play fights or ambushes, since it encourages cubs, and gives the adult an excuse to be a drama queen.
Two sifferences based on variant [doing this a bit briefly since I go over each in more detail on their own posts, and I only did two since I already wrote the rest of this post out, and am spent with writing this TwT-]:
Helwinter: wings are underdeveloped, with fused feathers that allow for easier swimming underwater, their thick layer of blubber like silicone fat, combined with their fuzzy synthetic fur, helps them keep warm in the icy dead zone that is Fenrir-8. Salamander: extremely altered cooling systems, they overheat easier then their counterparts, but even a Standard Worker overheats easier than them!, they lack wings since itâs of no use to them in their environment.
It appeared from nowhere, in a blinding flash of light so bright that caused the onlooking drones vision sensors to recalibrate, leaving them momentarily blinded. It is a figure veiled in flames, hung suspended in the air by six, great wings. From it came a sound, faint and distant yet it vaguely resembled singing. To the drones below, it seem like an angel but such is a falsehood which hides the Seraphimâs true nature.
The Seraphim disassembly drone model is a burning figure whoâs usually veiled in flames that hang suspended in midair by three pairs of ornate wings. Upon closer inspection, past the fires that cling to it reveals a corpse of a drone, either a standard disassembly or a worker drone, in a constant state of burning and regenerating. The droneâs form is in a constant flux, melting and fusing together but still maintaining the general shape of the drone they were derived from.
The mechanics of how a seraphim model operates is largely unknown, due to its state of perpetually burning it is assumed that, similar to the Dragon disassembly model, that the Seraphim functions is based in the unfathomable powers of the Absolute Solver rather in any conventional robotics and engineering. From what has been observed, seraphim does not need to consume oil or other materials which is a major deviation from the other disassembly models, it also begs the question of how the fire it generate is fueled as well as its constant regeneration. The wings of the Seraphim are alike to a standard disassembly drones, these wings cannot be retracted and seemingly unaffected by the fire. The wings seem to be only for keeping the seraphim suspended in the air, for locomotion the drone utilizes teleportation which isheralded by massive release of thermal energy and bright flashes of light.
A seraphimâs main and only form of attack is the ability to project concentrated bursts of energy to ignites the air and flash melts materials. Seraphim are incapable of using their limbs, which hang uselessly from their melting bodies.
Seraphim have never been seen interaction with others of their kind nor with any other type of disassembly drone. If a seraphim appears within an area inhabited by other models of disassembly drone, the individuals will either flee or hide. They seem to wander aimlessly until worker drones are detected, which the seraphim will seek out and disassemble them.
The most prominent behavior shown by all seraphim is that they are constantly displaying signs of extreme distress. They are either screaming, either silently or audibly, weeping, or begging. Due to behavior, it is theorized that the seraphim wasnât fabricated to be a weapon but instead a punishment.
Planets hosting oceans, seas and other large bodies of water are quite common within the universe and hidden below the waters of those alien oceans is a wealth of natural resources waiting to be tapped into. However, due to the extreme environmental conditions such as the extreme pressure and cold, accessing those resources is a herculean task. Humans cannot be sent into those conditions and standard worker drones would be crushed by the sheer pressure of the deep sea. So, in order to exploit these hordes of resources, humanity took to the drawing board the assembled the solution, the Aquanaut.
Design
Unlike the highly replaceable standard worker drone, Aquanaut drones were built to endure the harshest of conditions at the bottom of the sea and to last for decades upwards of centuries.
Aquanauts are large, standing at 8ft tall and are incredibly bulky. They are constructed from titanium alloys as to allow them to withstand extreme pressures of the abyss. Their frames are rounded as to evenly distribute the force of pressure being pressed upon them as well as being reinforced with internal stiffeners to prevent them from buckling.
To help maintain a steady internal pressure, Aquanauts are equipped with an internal array of pressure sensors. Should their internal pressure require adjustment, Aquanauts are equipped with a gas extractor and exchange system to pull available dissolved gasses from the surrounding water into their internals or to safely vent them.
To ensure that Aquanauts have a reliable source of power, they are not equipped with the standard array of rechargeable batteries but instead a downscaled nuclear reactor. This allows the Aquanaut to remain active for a theoretically indefinite amount of time.
Aquanauts lack the nanite repair system most drone variants are equipped with; this is due to the fact that even the smallest breach in their chassis will lead to a catastrophic implosion that will instantly destroy the Aquanaut. This renders a repair system meaningless if death is ensured.
Aquanauts also lack both mouths and audio sensors, with both being unnecessary weak points. Instead, Aquanauts communicate through short range radio signals, sign language and with their screens.
Behavior
Aquanauts are tireless workers, constantly working upon the seafloor to extract the resources below. Often working in companies of one to two hundred individuals, they may seem cold and intimidating but in actuality they are extremely social. While working, the Aquanauts will be in constant radio contact with the group they're with exchanging stories, singing songs and cracking jokes.
Aquanauts are supported by maintenance facilities staffed by standard worker drones; these facilities are jokingly nicknamed as fish bases by the drones that live within them. Aquanauts are extremely protective of the worker drones that staff the fish bases, as without them they would slowly die off. Aquanauts form deep bonds with these workers, often joining in on sleep piles even though they don't need to power down into sleep mode.
I figured it would be appropriate that the first post on this blog would be a rewrite of the first fanmade drone I've written, the Deep-Sea Mining Drones now renamed to the Aquanaut Drone. You can read the original post here.
