McLeod's Daughters creator reflects on the show's 20th anniversary and the upcoming movie

posiewriter So here we are. Twenty years ago to this date McLeods Daughters went to air. Did everyone who worked on the series, cast and crew alike, know it would be a phenomenon? I guess we hoped it would work. I certainly did. But did I know? Sort of. Maybe. But then upstepped the cast, that beautiful landscape, that magnificent rundown homestead⌠and yes, it worked. It really did. And itâs still being watched all around this small blue planet on the outer edges of the Milky Way. McLeods in space. Why not? But. How on this earth do you sum up 224 hours of all location, all film story-telling in 10 images? Just about impossible. Not a hope of fitting all our stars on this small screen. Or everyone who contributed with all their hearts and skill. But one thing Andrew and I do want to do is say thank you to you all. Without our wonderful cast, our crew, those locations, that music AND the vast number of supporters all over the world, this remarkable - and thatâs what I think it is - piece of work could never, ever have happened. So. That first image is the shot that finished the run. The last time the women from Droverâs Run rode past that windmill together. And yes, here we are, again. And Iâd like to ask a favour. If you would like to see the film Iâm writing get made in these crazy days, can you please let me know? And spread the word? Just would be very helpful right now. Thankyou for sticking with McLeods. Thank you for all the posts, the messages, the laughter and the tears through these years and years. And for your loyalty. Without you all, all over the world, weâd never have come this far. Our love and thanks. đâ¤ď¸đ

Weâve been going through boxes in the sheds on the farm. And I found this!
Itâs a dodgy copy of a photo from a long extinct Australian Magazine, The Bulletin. I was thrilled!
Why? Because this photo was part of my inspiration for the idea that became McLeods.
Way back in 1993 (Yes. That long ago.) I just wanted to show the network execs what I was seeing in my head - ordinary girls working on a cattle station. I wanted them to know the idea was grounded in truth. Agriculture was all about the blokes then. And, it was also when the series was called âDroverâs Girlsâ.
Itâs fair to say those execs at the boardroom table thought the concept of women running a cattle property was pretty far fetched. BUT these young women showed me - and them - that what Iâd begun to dream up wasnât entirely idiotic (mind you, it still took years and years to convince them weâd find an audience. Ah well.)
I was so grateful to see them again after all this time.
I donât know who they are, donât even know their names, but Iâd love to know what happened to them.
Turns out my fictional version of kids just like these  moved into my head and into my life. And never left. And the rest is history. Literally history because, nearly three decades afterwards, today Iâve got to the end of the first draft of the origin story - of how the McLeods became Australians, and who they all were. And what they did. And why.
Felt good to actually write, The End on that script. But now, of course, I have to go back and finish the combined past & present story, and write The End on that too. Then weâll see what we have.
The best thing? Finding this picture again feels like a wonderful, sunny omen. It really does. đ

What are everyoneâs favourite Stevie/Alex scenes?
*looking for inspiration*
The creator of hit TV series McLeodâs Daughters, Posie Graeme-Evans, is busy writing the script for the McLeodâs movie. The script, still at first draft stage, includes Claireâs daughter Charlotte, also Nick and Tessâ daughter Ruth, and Stevie and Alexâs son Xander.
