Cain has a line of dialogue in the messenger where if you mention cooking he says "its not my place to cook". to me this is him implying its not a mans role to cook therefore he does not engage with it and is one of the reasons he has a poor diet. The other reason seems to be symptomatic of depression as well.

but it really highlights how messed up patriarchal values screw everyone over because its likely being from a strict catholic family cain was never educated on basic life skills like cooking. probably told that its 'a womans place to be in the kitchen'. these kind of attitudes are unitentionally neglectful in a way because his parents have now enabled him unable to properly care for himself. once again showing how no one benefits from this really. men aren't taught to be healthy and cook for themselves and women are burdened with the responsibility instead.

also you have cain, who is described as feminine/androgynous and who can't cook becausd thats not manly vs the very masculine silas who works at a womens bakery and may or may not cook quite a bit himself....

ooh watching these two interact in the future.... it will be very interesting. i'd like to think they could be friends and silas helps shatter a lot of cain's negative perceptions around masculinity but thats me being hopeful.
