I'm a solitary east coast city druid, trying to be more in touch with nature and learn to identify plants, animals and trees. An essential part of nature spirituality is being familiar with the land you live on and the real-world cycles happening around you. This blog is a place for me to post pictures of nature I see and encourange me to go for more walks. Corrections welcome if I call a plant or animal by the wrong name

Here's my book list of what I've read since starting on this spiritual path.
I tag things with the eight wheel of the year seasons, and based on the four meteorological seasons, more notes on that below >
for reference, the ways of marking the seasons include:
Astronomical- a new season starts at each solstice and equinox (so, summer solstice, Jun 21 ish, is the first day of summer). This is what is commonly marked on calendars (and my least favorite method).
Meteorological- seasons are a group of 3 months divided by average temperature. Summer is defined by the 3 hottest months (Jun, Jul, & Aug) and so summer starts on Jun 1 (this is how I tag my photos).
Solar/ Celtic- seasons are defined by how much sunlight there is in a day. Summer includes the longest days of the year. The summer solstice is "midsummer," making it the midpoint of the season instead of the start, and the cross-quarter of May 1 the start of summer.
Ecological- marks seasons by changes in flora & fauna, such as when certain flowers bloom, instead of using fixed dates. modern mid-latitude ecological seasons are 6 in number.
