Jimmy indeed was an open book, usually not having anything to hide. He took great pride on that, though of course there were some things that he just wasn't necessarily a fan of talking about. "Hm, I like to think they are," he responded about his sisters, playfully tracing little shapes upon Emerson's hand which he had taken in his left hand. "I mean sure, ask me anything," he said with a grin, confident that nothing was off limits with her. Getting to know her and her getting to know him has been of the greatest experiences of his life so far. Though at the mention of his tone shifting, he was surprised, it must have been an unconscious shift, something he never realized he was doing. "Oh, I honestly didn't even realize I do that," shrugging and taking a deep breath, he then continued, "yeah, I haven't really spoken to him since I moved out during college." His thumb had stopped rubbing her hand, "he's your typical military man and he wanted me to follow in his footsteps and I didn't want to. He made my life hell as a kid and the only boy. So I said 'screw you' and distanced myself from him when I could." He gave her a shrug, before then continuing, "yeah your dad seems like he knows something about everything. And he's a great guy honestly." He nodded then chuckled as she pet Lola, who was wagging her tail. "Hm, my turn I guess? Why did you move back to Cape May way back when?" He knew some things about her past but not much, though he knew she had lived in New York at times and elsewhere but wondered why she moved back to NJ. "Right, they totally are, nice and cozy in here."
"When I meet them I'll let you know if you're right." She wanted to know all about his childhood and how he grew up. Hearing why he no longer had contact with his dad saddened her. By personal experience Emerson knew how parent's could affect their children with or without their presence. Emerson also thought his dad was a complete idiot for not seeing the amazing qualities the man in front of her had, however she kept those comments to herself. "I think the life you've built here all by yourself was the biggest screw you, you could have done. Does anybody in your family still talk to him?" With her left hand being free she started to twist the rings that were on her fingers. She supposed there were harder questions he could have asked her. "Why did I move home? That's a very loaded question." Lightly laughing to herself. "I didn't expect to stay in Washington after moving from New York. It was only supposed to be for a few weeks or so until I figured things out. Washington was just easier and at that point of my life I needed easy so I stayed. One day I was asked an important question and then I realized what I was doing. I didn't know I would be coming home until I made my way to the airport."
"Well then we'll just have to get them here sometime," he said with a smile. He would love for his sisters to visit, for them to meet Emmy and vice versa. It would be three three most important ladies in his life all together in the same city, and even same room. As she spoke, Jimmy caressed her cheek, smiling at her. "Thanks, and I'm not sure. They don't say and I don't ask. I mean he and my mom are still together and I figured she tells him things after I've spoken to her. But that's about it." Mentioning his mom, he did still talk to her but not as much as he spoke to his sisters. He watched her as she spoke and then as she fidgeted with the rings on her fingers. He took her hands, kissing her fingers and smiling against them. "Well I for one am glad as hell you moved back home. Though of course not so happy that you needed to come home." He wasn't sure if that made any sense, but he figured he could always further explain himself if need be. "I mean I definitely don't believe in fate or stuff like that, but" his voice trailed off and he found himself leaning in to kiss her instead of continuing speaking.
He rran a hand through his wet hair, still treading water. He was happy to see her, he missed her while she was in New York. But he sensed something might have happened. Between seeing some photos of her and the tone in her voice, that nagging feeling in his stomach wouldn't stop. But he didn't let on to that, he was just happy to have her home. "Productive is good," he said nodding, "it's gotta be cold there around this time, hopefully you didn't stuck in too much snow." He joked with a smile, before watching her put her glass in the cup holder. "I just saw some of the photos you were in, looks like New York is fun, that's all." He didn't want to go around accusing anyone, but seeing her in photos with her ex, looking friendly just kind of stung and struck a nerve. "I missed you," he said, drifting to the end of her float, his arms resting gently next to her dangling legs.
"Very productive indeed. Made the whole eleven hour flight there and back worth it." It wasn't too long ago where she often made the flight from Washington to home to visit friends and family. "The weather wasn't too bad. I don't mind the snow, if it's before or during Christmas." While she lived in New York before Emmy traveled home for the holidays Emmy and her friends would have their annual snow day which consisted of a legendary snowball fight and sledding. "Snow after Christmas is just kinda there you know? Oh?" Emerson didn't know what photos he was referring to. "Well hopefully they got my good side." She teased before her lips turned into a smirk." Besides I could have sent you much better ones. And I missed you." Her hand ran his wet hair to his jawline. "Very much."
"That's good to hear, though an eleven hour flight sounds horrible." He replied, his eyes wide, trying to remember the last time he was on an airplane for that long. "Hmm I know what you mean," he hummed, his fingers playfully tapping within the water. "As long as I don't have to shovel it, I honestly don't mind it. Plus Cora drives well in the snow. But I know what you mean." He smiled softly and nodded his head. At her sounding surprised about the photos, he looked off to the side for a moment. He wasn't in the mood to fight, instead his heart ached, hoping it was all in his head. "I mean each side is your good side." He smirked, inching closer to her, "so why didn't you?" He asked, clocking an eyebrow, his hands creeping up her thighs. "I would have sent some good ones back. It's only fair. And you have no idea how much I missed you."

just because i’m very slow with replies doesn’t mean i don’t care about our plot !!!
Raising both his eyebrows in shock, Jimmy titled his head a bit. he was both surprised and intrigued, wondering who Drew was talking about. It could be any number of people he knew, hoping he'd maybe get that information by the time they returned home. "Yeah that's very true, I guess I never really had been asked that. Plus I like just going with the flow." He paused, taking a sip of his own water. Truly he never had really had thoughts about the future, almost afraid if he planned something, it would go horribly wrong. "I'd love to have kids one day, but it also depends on who I end up marrying." He shrugged, never wanting to pressure his potential wife into having kids if she didn't want them. "Oh damn," he replied in response to the knucklehead comments, "hence why i try not to necessarily plan those things out." He replied with a bit of a chuckle.
"Going with the flow is good until it throws you off completely." He laughed, "at least you know I don't ask boring questions." In times when he would tease, it was obvious how alike Andy and JC were to their dad. Each had their serious sides but when comfortable they let loose and showed off a comfortable personality, bordering on jokesters. "That's a big and huge if. Might end up with someone who doesn't want kids and that's always a tough spot to be in." He got lucky his late wife was one who wanted kids as he did but that didn't come without heartaches. "Looking back, honestly don't know how I managed to get through that without losing my head. But seeing them be their own people and live their lives, that's what makes it worth it. Just wish my wife got to see them grow up." Quiet fell over him like a blanket as his thumb and index finger played with the bottle cap. The moment of quiet passed as he looked over at Jimmy. "You know, I could use some help at the center if you're up for it?"
"Very true," he nodded though he could have quipped back that if you're going with the flow there is nothing to be thrown off from, but he decided not to say that. Shaking his with a laugh, he pointed to Drew, "no you definitely don't. Which I honestly appreciate. Shows me how much you care about Emerson. Which is exactly what she deserves. To have people, especially parents who care about her. In addition to brothers and friends and whatnot." That's all that mattered to him, was that Emerson had a good group supporting her, something he wish he had in regards to family other than his two sisters. His brow softening for a moment, thinking about what Drew just said about kids. Jimmy loved kids but it wasn't necessarily the defining aspect of a relationship for him. "I see, yeah. But I'm still always down to be that fun uncle. The one who's always there for his nieces and nephews especially when they may not want to go to their own parents." He offered up, reminding his own self of his own uncles (and aunts) who had been there for him as a kid who he adored. Biting his lip at the mention of Drew's late wife, Jimmy reached out and squeezed his friend's shoulder. "I'm sure she's looking down at everyone and watching over ya'll. And she'd be mighty proud." He offered up an encouraging smile. "Yeah man, I'm down. Just let me know what I can do to help."
While treading water, he made sure not to lean on her float as he didn't want to topple her over. "How was your trip?" He asked, hoping she'd bring up the flowers in the kitchen as well as that photo he saw of her online. He wasn't necessarily made or angry, yet, and he wasn't sure if he should be worried or not. But he figured he didn't want to accuse her of anything, let alone cheating. Especially with her own history. "Looks like you had fun," he added, wiping some water from his face.
She was about to take a sip of her drink when he asked his question. "It was...." Pausing to think of the best word to describe her trip to New York. "Productive." Finally settling on the pervious word she finished her drink. Setting the glass in the cup holder. "What do you mean?" Her voice sounding confused. She would have preferred to be in the city under different circumstances. "Fun isn't a word I would have used." She pushed herself forward on her inflatable unicorn. Her legs now dangling in the water. "I would have rather been home with you."
He rran a hand through his wet hair, still treading water. He was happy to see her, he missed her while she was in New York. But he sensed something might have happened. "I missed you," he said, drifting to the end of her float, his arms resting gently next to her dangling legs.
"If they are anything thing like you then I think I would." She admired many characteristics about him. One of them being how open he was about his life. "Is everything an option?" Emerson asked somewhat joking. She did want to learn more about his life and cool interesting facts she might not know. "Well how about we take turns? Seems only fair I let you ask something too. " She would be lying if she said she wasn't nervous on what he could possibly ask. "When you speak about your sisters and then your dad it seems like your tone changes. Are you and your dad not close? It seems like the man knowns everything so I can't say if he did or didn't. Rock Climbing is fun and the view is always worth it. If you don't make it back I'll take care of Lola for you." Teasing as she reached over to pet Lola on the top of her head. "You're right cuddles are better in here. Hmm maybe."

"Yeah. I won't say who but not my first rodeo on taking people out on an adventure." Drew smiled softly as he kept drinking his water bottle. He nodded his head as he heard him talk. "I know some people don't think that far ahead which isn't a bad thing but still it's a question that usually gets some answers when they do an introspect. Think you'll ever be a dad? You know by the time I was about your age, I had my three knuckleheads getting into things and crawling about and my five year plan had undergone a major overhaul. I don't regret having them by any means but it is funny how plans don't always pan out the way you see them. My plan had maybe one kid in my mid thirties." That made him laugh thinking about it. "Clearly that didn't work out."

Jimmy had been looking forward to seeing Emmy after her trip to New York. He missed her so much, not being able to see her, hold her, or kiss her, for a while, made it all the much sweeter for when she would return home. So when he got the text to come over, he couldn't get there fast enough. He knew she'd be hanging out in the back, sipping on some drinks while in the pool, and he made sure to bring his swimsuit. Letting himself in the front door, he whistled as he made his way through her house, and into the kitchen and out to the backyard. As he was passing through the kitchen, he saw a giant bouquet of flowers on the counter, wondering who could have sent them. He knew he didn't send them, so he checked out the card. Seeing it was Emmy's ex, he couldn't help but feel a combination of anger, jealousy, and anxiety. He had put it out of his head a few days ago when he saw Emmy and her ex in the same photo, chalking it up to them having the same circle of friends. But seeing the flowers, got him worried. Walking outside, he walked over to the edge of the pool, kicked off his shoes, took off his shirt, and jumped on in. "Hey you," he said after he swam over to her on her unicorn floatie.
She needed time to decompress from her trip. Her emotions had been on running on high the previous week and she needed a break. Being in water was something that always brought joy to her. Swimming had always helped her clear her mind and was relaxing. She spent the afternoon doing laps in the pool to help her bring her mindset back to her everyday life. When Emmy was ready she grabbed her phone from the side of the pool to text Jimmy to come over. While she was up she decided to grab herself a drink to go with her pool day. Red wine was her drink of choice for the afternoon. It didn't seem very long before she heard footsteps coming from the pool deck. Turning she lowered her black sunglasses to watch him jump into the pool. "Hey."
Drew handed over a cold drink to Jimmy as he opened his own and took a sip. "You did good out there and I'm not just saying that. At least you didn't throw up. I call that a good day." He smiled as he watched the view. The island was always calming to him and being here and being able to raise the next generation was amazing. "I won't ever get between my kids' happiness but don't mistake that for me being okay with any of them getting hurt. I will step in. Emmy has always been fiercely independent just like her mom." He chuckled softly and wiped a strand of hair off his eyes. "What's your five year plan? Got one?"
Taking the drink from Drew, Jimmy replied, "thanks. For both." He smiled, with a nod, sipping on the cold drink, a much needed reprieve from the heat after their adventure. Turning to Drew, he clocked an eyebrow, "throw up? Geez, yeah thankfully I didn't." Looking out at the view, he took a deep breath, inhaling the warm air and sighing at how calming it was. Nodding at the mention of him stepping in, Jimmy agreed and understood. "Of course, and I'm glad you'd do that for her." And honestly he was happy about it, despite it technically meant that it would be against Jimmy. "Five year plan?" He asked, not really having thought about it before, "Um not really. Though I'd love to settle down. Maybe get married?" He replied, not knowing if he'd want a family of his own one day or not, plus not even knowing where he'd be in give years.
