Treasure in the Darkness - First Steps
Armed with the knowledge and materials necessary, the Drunk Dungeoneers prepared to build their gate to the Void. Using a combination of technology, biology, and runic magics, the Dungeoneers created a design for the gate wherein mechanical arms connected to a timed device would control the movement of an upper and lower mandible for their preserved morbol, and portal runes would be inscribed upon the teeth of the morbol. This design would allow for the portal to only be opened so long as the mouth was open, else the teeth crossing one another would place the portal runes in an improper pattern and negate the spell, and insure that even when powered the portal would only be opened for controlled segments of time so as to not attract too much attention with a continual opening.
In order to combat the pressures of the Void upon themselves, the Dungeoneers constructed warding scales based off of the ones designed during the travels of the Warrior of Light. While the Dungeoneers did not have access to the same quality of ingredients as the Scions, with their own elbow grease and connections they managed to arrange for materials of a still sufficient quality, combining elder dragon scales with Allagan aether suffused materials and alchemic enhancers.
With materials all in hand and ready, the Dungeoneers worked to craft their gate and wards, doing so with a satisfactory, although not perfect, result.
With the gate up and running, the Dungeoneers prepared for their first sojourn into the Void. Their goal would be to merely land on the floating island they had identified as near themselves, and establish a simple base camp.
On the other side, the Dungeoneers found themselves in a large stonework building where broken down walls and the long ago remnants of civilization greeted them. Thankfully though, they found no Voidsent in their immediate area, and their wards seemed to damper their own projection of aether enough so as to not be noticed.
Their initial search, with some guidance from one of their void connected peers, managed to help them find a suitable location for a base camp, although it came with one complication.
The presence of a demon wall like enemy proved to be their obstacle, as massive fist erupted from the stonework, later determined to be within the stonework, clobbering at the Dungeoneers. Through hard fighting, and a risky switch of wards mid-battle so as to continue their shielding, the Dungeoneers managed to destroy the demon wall entity. The fight had however attracted too much other attention from the Void, drawing sights on them.
In a rush, the Dungeoneers fled the immediate area, nearly suffering a loss as one of their companions, who was found to have had a failing ward and was touched by some of the Void's corruption, nearly fell beneath the oncoming jaws of a large Voidsent. Thankfully, with quick reactions and powerful magics, the Dungeoneers managed to protect and recover their comrade, quickly exiting through the recently opened portal and closing it behind them.
Out and safe, for now, the Dungeoneers sit with their findings and decide on another plan as to better establish their base camp in order to find settlement in the Void and begin their proper hunt.
