crowley, come back to heaven... as an angel
Thinking about how the pilot script describes Louis as the most beautiful man ever and Lestat is… a blond guy.
my brother in fanfiction, you chose to open the bag why are you surprised the dove is dead?
i’m at that age where people do drugs, i do panadol
The most interesting thing to me thus far about this whole goncherov thing is that Tumblr has collectively constructed some pretty convincing side characters for this movie. Katya leaps off the page as this frustrated woman caged by her lack of autonomy, Sofia coyly plays both sides and acts above it all when really she's desperate for the same freedom Katya is. Ice Pick Joe is a less developed character who nonetheless acts as a stand in for the inescapable nature of cycles of violence. andrey, loyal to a fault, gets pulled deeper and deeper into goncherov's orbit until there's no way for him to make it out alive
and yet with all that I have ZERO sense of who goncherov is supposed to be himself. i've see a lot of stuff suggesting that the film is theoretically about loss, including the loss of one's identity, shown primarily through the way goncherov becomes unrecognizable to himself by the time of his death at the end of the film (seeing himself in a fractured mirror is a common motif). it's very interesting to me that we have a fine time coming up with a group of collective blorbos based on mafia movie tropes, but somehow the main character feels unknowable, to the degree that we had to make that one of the core themes of the film.
To know him is to love him and he will not allow that.
people write AUs where characters from a fantasy universe are in like, the setting or plot situation of another non-fantasy story all the time, and usually it’s a no-powers version of those characters because more often than not the powers would absolutely break all the stakes of the au.
And that’s totally logical and makes sense, but I think the version where the transplanted characters get to keep their powers and break the stakes has hilarious and underutilized crack potential.
Like just once I’d like to read “The 74th annual Hunger Games goes absolutely tits up and nobody knows why none of the kids seem to be dying despite some serious effort on the part of the gamemakers. Meanwhile sharp-eyed viewers at home may notice that the shy and unassuming male tribute from district 11—whose personal item was a pair of costume glasses—hasn’t been seen on-camera even once since the opening gong. But not many people do notice. After all, in all the pageantry leading up to the games, no tribute was more boring than Clark Kent.“
Oh my fucking god.
The Goncharov meme has exposed several really interesting things:
1) It highlights tumblr as actual social media based in community effort rather than status
2) It shows what tumblr as a whole values in media (in particular, queer representation, strong relationships between characters, emotional catharsis, and dichotomy of themes such as spending one's life building a legacy versus just living life)
3) Tumblr humor is based primarily in improv "yes and-ing" and commitment to the bit, and people will put 200% effort into pushing the bit even further if the bit keeps being fun
4) More than anything, people want to entertain each other, and being in a community that values entertaining others leads to incredible collaborative works of creativity that don't even feel like work to make
some of you are really gonna watch a movie made during the height of the cold war about an eastern european man on the other side of the iron curtain trying to survive in a world that alienates him while reconciling with the legacy of violence such survival will leave behind and the take you walk out with is "cool russian accent, but goncharov is a story about the american identity" just know that i am praying for your downfall

Katya paper dolls.
There is so much meta about why she always wears white except in that one scene.
Many thanks to @omgthatdressfor finding and posting those pictures of that iconic coat and the purple dress.
