childhood;

drusilla is a direct descendant of vlad the impaler. she was hatched from a slimy, green, vampire egg (van helsing style) laid by one of dracula’s many brides in 1841. 

raised in an underground vampire lair in russia. the older vampires brought food down for the babies to feed from. they weren’t allowed to go up to the surface until they had their bloodlust under control. 

left to her own devices most of the time. with not much else to do, she bullied the runts of the vampire litters. she was queen bee of the vampire children.

she reached full, physical maturity at eight years old. she has the body of a woman in her early 30′s. 

adulthood;

after ten years with her original coven, drusilla left moscow to travel to omsk. she tore through the city and the population quickly decreased. she was left bored, bloated, and still not satisfied.

spent years as a loner, travelling from city to city and causing carnage. her mother stepped in after a couple of years and warned drusilla that if she didn’t stop, she’d have to be terminated for drawing too much attention from humans. 

with the threat of murder hanging in the air, drusilla left russia and travelled to italy and rome. not that she behaved much better there. the rumour going around about the creature who massacred popes was not just a rumour... she had a particular craving for the sanctimonious blood of the roman catholic church. 

drusilla formed her own coven while out in italy. they called her ‘the countess’. she gained quite a large following and her word was their law. she even invited humans in, promising the gift of eternal life if they betrayed their fellow humans and brought them to the lair. 

she never kept her word, obviously. they all ended up as meals for the coven. again, the population began to dwindle and she had to move on before her mother carried out her threat. 

the coven travelled with her from country to country. germany, france, finland, ireland, scotland, england; anywhere in europe, really. the coven only grew larger and stronger, now filled with vampires from all over the world. 

in 1901, the coven went overseas to america. it ended up being the biggest mistake that drusilla could’ve made. vampire hunters were out in heavy force over there. no matter how many times the coven moved, they were found and chased out. many vampires were lost to stakes and silver bullets in the process.

vampires are vengeful creatures, so they of course tried to avenge their dead. it only worsened the problem, leading to more deaths until they were driven underground. they could no longer live in the public eye. they only left at night in their shapeshifting forms to feed. 

they lived that way until 1916 when they caught a boat filled with soldiers heading to european soil. the war was quite beneficial for vampires. plenty of casualties to feed on, able to easily blend into the carnage and chaos. 

moved back to moscow after the first war. stayed there and merged with her original coven until 1963. by that point, drusilla was incredibly bored. she fled her coven in the middle of the day and headed back to america. it’d be easy to go unnoticed if she was alone. 

she’s been living the usa ever since. every few years, she moves cities and changes her job due to never ageing. she doesn’t want to raise suspicion. there are plenty of other mutants who are out and proud these days, but she prefers to stay true to her roots and never stay in one place too long. hunters still exist, and she can’t forget her losses over the years.

present day; 

drusilla is now living in chicago and works as a phlebotomist. she has easy access to any kind of blood bags she needs, and it’s a job she doesn’t mind doing. she has her thirst under control enough to not pounce on every bleeding human or mutant she meets.

unfortunately, she joined the damned. she has nothing better to do, so why not? she deeply regrets it after meeting the other members. not that she’ll admit it, dru also misses having a coven. this is the closest she can get to being a part of one again. 

she still doesn’t take much care when it comes to feeding. she often rips through prison yards because they’re people nobody is going to really miss or care about. she’ll also go on a binging spree through neighbourhoods whenever she pleases. it’s easy to gain access to any place when your shapeshifting form is mist.

“Shut up.” It’s said with the precision of someone that’s had to deal with idiots more times than she could count. A cold chill, up the spine, as she feels the nerves in her head rocking her like waves battering a dinghy. Teeth. Blood. Fred has the leg of a broken off chair. A gun, lined with silver. The moon whistles, and it’s all real, then it’s not. There is a possibility of her death again, but she doesn’t want to see it. Not really. No one does.

Winifred doesn’t drink much—and the lies, ambient and implicit are all too much to bear. “Old soil. Old soil, old shells, old bones,” her voice is far, in triplicate, hurried as they arrive in the bathroom. As the visions wrack her mind. She’s just fucked; mutant or not, she hates what’s happening now. “I know you. I know the ghosts—the iron collars of men will catch you.”

Drusilla ignores the ‘shut up’, she’s not about to start a fight with someone who can’t handle their liquor. They reach the bathroom and she can't make sense of the ramblings of this mad stranger. The iron collars of men will catch you. She stiffens, the hand aiding the other woman dropping to her side. "You do not know me." Is she a witch? Drusilla has met many of them throughout her life, but very few have spoken to her like this.

"Ghosts are not real. No man will ever put me in an iron collar." The old soil and bones must've been a reference to Drusilla's life in England, where she'd lost most of her coven and was forced into hiding for a century or more. "I think you need a therapist, not a glass of water. You clearly have some issues that I cannot help you with."

“Not long. It’ll pass. Hopefully.” A nurse and a phlebotomist. Damn. If he encountered her in a hospital he’d fully not believe his luck, and indeed has to suppress several inappropriate comments. His ability to not verbalise them is fortified by the fact that the woman pinches his nose. She’s being helpful, but also kind of tells him not to fuck with her. This is a yes ma’am, no ma’am, three bags full ma’am sort of a woman. Jules is, fortunately, very compliant with such women.

“Thank you, I do know how to deal with a nose bleed actually. Not my first rodeo. But thanks.“ Though it comes out a bit more like thag oo, i boo know to beal wib… thanks to the pinch on his nose. “How lucky am I to have bumped in to you, then. I am, in fact, ill. Thank you for noticing. I didn’t know blood sniffing was a routine part of nursing slash phlebotomy training.” There’s a question in that last bit, and he’s going to assume she’s a mutant of some kind unless she proves otherwise.

“Every nurse or phlebotomist you’ve met before me has been a shit one, then.” Drusilla knows what he’s getting at, but she isn’t ready to give away what she is just yet. Playing games is more her style. “We’re not in the Victorian era, so I know you haven’t got tuberculosis, despite looking like the ghost of Tiny Tim.” Unless he hasn’t been vaccinated, which would be very unfortunate, and she’d have to apologise for her joke. 

“That’s a compliment, by the way. I find Tim very endearing.” She lets go of the man’s nose, fingers cupping his chin to tilt his head back. Her face moves closer to his, and she inspects both nostrils (it’s not the nicest job, but she’s seen worse). “The bleeding has stopped, Timmy. I can’t hear blood rushing to your nose anymore.” Her eyes meet his, and she gives him a playful smirk, daring him to either guess what she is or straight out ask her the question.

Thalia couldn’t accurately recalled the last time she had done something so… formal for lack of a better word. Especially standing in an arcade bar. But, going out with random women who offer to take her out at a coffee shop? That may as well have been a Hallmark movie in her mind. Still, who was she to deny a beautiful woman her time? “Fancy meeting you here,” She teases. It’s not hard to spot her in a bar, no matter how crowded.

“I know, right?” Drusilla replies, smiling before taking a swig of her beer (alcohol doesn’t affect her, it’s a habit she’s picked up to seem more human). “I wouldn’t usually come to a bar like this, but I met a really beautiful woman, and I’m trying to impress her by beating her at pinball.” It’s all for show, of course. She has no need to impress Thalia, other than the fact she’s actually interested in her. If she just wanted to drink her blood, she’d compel her then let her go. Moving closer to her date, she wraps an arm around her waist and kisses her cheek. “Thanks for not standing me up. What can I get you to drink? You look... delectable, by the way.”

“Haemophilia,” Jules responds cheerfully, digging in his pocket for tissues – nothing like openly bleeding in front of hot women! And not even bleeding in a studly heroic way, but more in a pathetic Victorian waif way.

Pressing the tissue to his nose, which has just begun to leak blood for no particular reason, it seems, other than to thwart his fun in this art supply shop where he was about to spend the money he’d stolen out of a guy’s pocket earlier. “And for that reason I’m usually on the receiving end of the blood donations, but if you’ve got a vial you’re welcome to try and collect whatever I lose before it hits the floor. I’m sure it’d only contravene half a dozen health and safety measures– ugh, shit.” He abandons the watercolour set he’d been looking at back on the shelf, grabbing more tissues as the bloodflow grows more persistent.

“Okay, well, how long has your nose been bleeding?” Judging by the amount of blood on the floor and him, she doesn’t think it’s been longer than 20 minutes. If it has, he’s an idiot for not going to the emergency room. She could make his bleeding stop, but that would mean revealing what she is. 

Drusilla shakes her head, forgetting all about personal boundaries as she reaches out to pinch the soft part of his nose. “Head forward, mouth open. Don’t swallow the blood.” She knows she’s being incredibly bossy, and her Russian accent makes her sound sterner than she intends to. “Blood is my area of expertise. I’m a phlebotomist, and I also trained as a nurse, years ago.” In fact, every job she’s ever had has been to get her closer to blood. “Your blood tells me a lot about you, actually. The coppery scent isn’t as strong as it should be; are you ill?”

“I’ll hold you to that. I think you’ll be impressed with what I can handle.” Very little truly shocked her these days. Thalia had practically seen it all. Whatever Dru had to share certainly couldn’t be that bad. “It sounds like fun. Especially since you’ll be there,” Thalia muses with a smile, taking the business card from off the table top. “I’ll keep that in mind. I’d hate for you to have to suffer through the workday all by yourself. Especially if my face will really turn it around that much. I’m looking forward to seeing you again, Dru.” 

“Oh, I don’t doubt it. You’re already very impressive.” Drusilla rarely feels an instant spark with someone; being alive for 200 years takes the excitement out of most things. However, she does feel one with Thalia. Who knows if it’s more than just an intense physical attraction, but she owes it to herself to explore it. “Flattery will get you everywhere,” Drusilla jests, then takes the last sip of her coffee. “A face like yours could turn a lot of peoples days around, believe me. There’s no better medicine than a beautiful woman with a beautiful smile.” Sure, it wouldn’t help anyone on their deathbed or someone with a limb hanging off, but it’s true in Drusilla’s case. “I’m looking forward to seeing you again, too, Thalia,” she says, getting up from her chair. “Very, very much,” Drusilla emphasises, taking Thalia’s hand in her own to press a farewell kiss to the back of it.

        how anyone could find someone like her attractive is beyond him. sure, physically? he would have to be blind to say she isn’t gifted in that department. but mentally? he means it when he says he wouldn’t touch her with a thirty-foot pole. not only is she a singularly unpleasant person to be around, she has to rile him up about it, too! “i’ve got a few extra, but you’ll need to do something for me before i hand them over.” he’s not usually the bribery type, but… desperate circumstances and all that. “you stay away from my station.”

“Blackmail in the workplace? How would our boss feel about that, Raul?” Drusilla steps closer to him as she speaks, clearly annoyed by his request. Is it not enough that she has to see his face everyday, and deal with the scent of wolves lingering in the air? He has to try and tell her where she can and can’t go, too? If he were a human, she would’ve skewered his eyeballs with her nails by now. It’s too risky to go after a wolf, though. Being hunted is something she wants to leave in the past. “Gladly. That means you have to stay away from mine, too. When you’re not here, your station is free real estate, though.”

“So,” she says, starting a line. It’s her one day off in months, and it’s going well enough. Until visions start pouring in. It’s quick, an assault—she takes a shot before everything starts to pour in, like a dam broken and rushing into her mind. Futures, probable and real slip into her grasp. The color yellow. A hand on her shoulder. A gunshot wound to the chest. You’re a ghost. You’re a ghost. You’re a ghost. She feels sick. Sicker than normal.

“Fucking—” Fred stumbles off the stool, catching the woman’s shoulder as she makes a hazy beeline for the bathroom. Fangs. Blood. A woman’s red-lipped smile. “Sorry. I have to—”

Drusilla couldn’t stand to be around the Damned boys any longer than necessary, and had made a quick exit after their latest meeting. Sitting at a bar, nursing a glass of red wine is much better than listening to Ihsan’s ramblings and inhaling the stench of Ezra. She’s taking a sip of her drink when she feels someone knock her shoulder, making her splash wine over her shirt. Drunk people are always so damn messy. “It’s fine, I needed an excuse to go shopping,” she says, hopping down from her stool.

“Careful,” Drusilla scolds gently, reaching out to grab the woman’s elbow to steady her. “Let’s get you to the bathroom. I need to clean myself up, anyways.” She frowns as she looks the stranger up and down, leading them to the bathroom. “I think you might want to stick to water for the rest of the night.”
