She’d be the first one to admit to herself that she was indeed bitter about his sudden absence, with lack of informing her. At first, yes, she had simply assumed that he had gone to take care of business as he normally did. However, it had been weeks when a concern had truly begun to plant itself and to fester within the woman.
Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months, and while she had done a fairly good job at masking her clear mood drop to those that she needed to mask such emotions from, it had grown increasingly difficult with each day that passed without her even getting to see the man she had grown to care for in her own dark, somewhat twisted way. Those emotions for once getting the best of her, and while patience she had in spades, it didn’t stop her growing separation anxiety from the man that made her who she was now.
Even now, while she knew his words were meant to reassure her, she couldn’t help but have concern, a feeling similar to that which she once felt towards certain fairies. If one hadn’t known otherwise, they could think it was possibly remnants of who she had previously been showing through the darkness that had overtaken her. And perhaps it was. For while it was true that her ideals were different, along with her feelings and the like, it couldn’t be denied that she was still Lucy Heartfilia.
Values that Fairy Tail had drilled into her, such as unwavering loyalty, coupled with that which had been taught to her by now deceased mother, one would be a fool to think that sparks of those aspects wouldn’t break through every now and then. This was one of those instances.
While his hand upon cheek was enough to soothe her rushing thoughts, it didn’t stop her concern.
“Are you sure–?” A pause as her words trailed off, not quite done with small line of questioning yet. “You’re not…still feeling the effects of those complications, are you?” Of course, he was her number one priority. She didn’t want to think about if something worse had happened to him. That was a bridge that she’d much rather not ever cross.
Own hand placed itself upon his wrist, thumb making small back and forth motions, and a small nod.
“I believe we both know that such an action would be true on both of our parts.” She’d be damned if she would allow for them to be taken away from each other. No, she had worked too hard to secure her position, and she wouldn’t watch it crumble beneath her. The dragons would stop that before it could come to fruition.
Sincerity was once something that he found sick, and it was something that he’d naturally recoil at. Behind sincerity, there was either two things: weakness, or deceit. Strangely enough ,he sensed neither in Lucy’s questioning, and as such, he did not find it disgusting. Rather that observing his features recoil in disgust, she’d instead find him sedated. As sedated as a ravenous deity-like being god.
Her small motions brought tingles down his spine, her familiarity with his skin a welcome change from all those nights spent alone. Did he miss her? Perhaps, a sign of his own sentiment seeping into him. Why else would he have thought to make her his Queen, rather than simply disposing of her? Why else did he let his hand remain where it was, inviting her to touch him as much as she wished? These questions, once disturbing to think of, now brought a particular serenity to him.
“My Queen has lost nothing of her fire. Good, I was almost concerned that Fairy Tail would sap you of your spirit.”
Rogue’s contempt for her guild could not be masked even in this moment. If there was one regret, then it was the fact that he had left her there. The time for spying on the guild was long past over, for there were none that could match him. Not even Natsu Dragneel could handle him, and that boy would find that out soon. For now? He’d indulge, as he was meant to.
Leaning in, he thought it right to take the woman’s lips. He looked to seal his own against hers, hungry for her, and for her alone. Not to consume her. . .but simply to take her. To feel the cry of air beating against his lungs, to feel warmth that came from another entirely. To feel her lips pressed firmly against his own. And most of all, to tug against it teasingly, sucking gently against her lower lip.
