Have we reached the pinnacle where our smartphones and personal electronic devices are the sole catalysts driving overall success?

In the era of social media, some have the misconception that one’s technological trend (i.e., how many retweets recieved, facebook likes or reshares, number of Instagram followers, and/ or their faces across tele.) equates to their only ability to enter and do well financially in the market. Observedly, such tactical methods do add value to the construction and maintenance of social, human, and financial capital.

I certainly revel in the entertaining and sometimes informative postings. I even enjoy posting my own musings for peers to view. For me, posting provides a selected few entrée into the randomness of my life (no matter how sporadic or mundane the subject matter).

But, how habit-forming is social media? Moreover, does the platform’s success provide its users’ the ability to capitalize on the market shares of that success?

Toward An Equitable Cultural Policy In 2017

A recent blog post on The Huffington Post expresses the importance of equity as New York City works to create its first-ever cultural plan:

New York’s plan – to be released this summer – follows Boston’s, which was revealed in 2016. How do we get New York to deeply embrace the full meaning of cultural equity in this plan? This is the question among funders at the New York City Cultural Agenda Fund in The New York Community Trust, where we seek to influence policy and advance equity in arts and culture.

A New Philanthropic Framework to Address Inequity in America

A recent article in the Stanford Social Innovation Review advocates a “shift from a framework that grounds giving in ‘charity’ to one that grounds giving in ‘justice.’” The authors ask funders to interrogate the historic inequities which have made philanthropy necessary, offering a set of questions for philanthropic field to examine their own practices under this framework.
