Hear me out. Bella hangs out with the Cullens for a weekend and Carlisle comes home from work Friday night and by Saturday afternoon Bella is sick. It’s just a cold and a slight fever, but her girlfriend, Rosalie, is panicking and coddling her like Bella could die any second.

“thank god you’re back…” rosalie grabbed him by the elbow and half-dragged him into the house

“what’s the matter?” carlisle asked.

“it’s bella, she’s sick.”

when they walked into the living room, carlisle saw bella sitting on the couch, wrapped from head to toe in thick blankets

she smiled weakly at him and raised a hand as best she could from under the covers, “hey carlisle.”

“hello bella, what’s going on?”

“i have a cold and rose thinks i’m on my deathbed. just the usual.”

“it’s not the usual, carlisle.” rose snapped. “her forehead feels like a furnace and she’s been coughing all afternoon. and look how pale she is.”

“i always look pale and i always feel warm to you, rose.” bella pointed out. “and humans cough sometimes, it’s honestly not a big deal.”

“carlisle?” rose pressed, ignoring her girlfriend’s protests.

dutifully, for rosalie’s peace of mind, carlisle took bella’s pulse and felt her forehead before shrugging and saying, “i think it’s just a cold, rose. bella will be fine in a few days, though i would suggest going home and getting some sleep.”

“just a cold?” rose sneered. “that’s what they said to edward and look what happened to him!”

“hey!” edward frowned, folding his hands over his chest.

rosalie stormed out of the room and carlisle followed her.

“rose, my dear, please don’t fret. i know you worry about her but she really will be alright.”

“i can’t help but worry about her, carlisle. the slightest thing could derail her health, she’s so vulnerable-…”

“she’s no more vulnerable than any other human.”

“but she isn’t any other human, she’s the love of my life. and every time something like this happens i have to face the fact that i’m going to lose her.”

“you know you don’t have to lose her.” carlisle reminded her. “we have the power to make her as indestructible as we are.”

“i won’t do that to her. you know i can’t.”

carlisle sighed, “look rose, i understand now that i didn’t give you a choice in the way you came into this life. i’m sorry for that. but you can give bella a choice and if she chooses to spend forever with you then what’s the harm in that?”

“she deserves to be normal.” rose protested.

“she’s never been normal. not to you. not to any of us. bella’s family and none of us want to lose her either. just think about it, okay?”
