In her early years of life, no one would have ever thought that Duke Deckers name would come with any kind of notoriety. Her family lived check to check, police lights were a common sight on her street, and her childhood was haunted by muffled arguments on the other side of her bedroom wall.
Duke was eleven years old when her mother packed her and her younger brother up and moved them down to live with family in the Chicago suburbs. Life was significantly better after that, but Duke was never a star student, nor did she ever have the prowess of an athlete.
She did, however, have style -- which caught the eye of a street-fashion photographer who published an image of her at seventeen. From there, a modeling contract seemed to fall into her lap.
Go-sees turned to catalogue work, which turned into runway spots in Chicago Fashion Week, which led to a Chanel show in Paris, which then led her to editorials in every high fashion magazine and claimed her the title of the biggest model to watch. She then met Austin "Rowdy" Rhode, an NFL linebacker, at a Superbowl afterparty when she was 23. He wooed her quickly, and Duke loved being able to wear both hats as a rising fashion superstar and a football girlfriend (there was even a whole Instagram account dedicated to the outfits she wore to each game). The two were married two years later in a star-studded wedding in Italy that put Duke on the cover of the September issue of Vogue.
The cracks formed within the first year, in spite of how Duke did her best to ignore them. She went the extra mile when their busy schedules kept them apart, even turning down opportunities, and Austin never seemed as sincere about meeting her halfway. The divorce was messy and public -- after a Superbowl win his mistress (one of many, Duke would come to find) ran onto the field and planted a kiss on him in front of the world.
In a life where she had one of the most impressive modeling catalogues in history, somehow the pictures of her face in that moment were the most well-known.
The PR battles were endless until Duke filed a deposition of every detail she had of his infidelity -- screenshots, hotel reservations, and private plane flight logs.
With many terms of their pre-nup coming out in her favor, Duke walked away with enough assets to make her exes head spin.
With that cash, Duke moved to Aurora Bay and decided to pivot to her new career -- where some influences went in the director of liquor brands and skincare, she would do the same for cannabis.
