The Art of Self-Care Plan
A lot of students are having a hard time coping with the situation that we face today. Taking classes at home through online platforms is tiring since you are required to submit activities, study up all night to prepare for quizzes and exams while trying to do household chores at the same time. Having to finish all of these before the day ends is draining. And sometimes, we are so busy with these tasks that we forget to take care of ourselves. This shows the importance of creating and applying a Self-Care Plan.
Physical Care. We must take good care of ourselves. In order to do so, we must always try to incorporate exercises in our daily activities. Most of us nowadays spend a lot of hours sitting in front of the computer for work or school. Stretching your backs, arms, legs, and taking your eyes off the screen for a few minutes would be refreshing to your body. We should also at least have 6-8 hours of sleep in order to keep our body working well and having a lot of energy to do our daily tasks. Eating a well-balanced diet is also a key component in keeping our bodies free from sickness. Last but not the least, we should keep our body hydrated to replenish all of the liquids that we lose especially now that weāre having a hot weather. We must at least consume 8-10 glasses of water to keep ourselves hydrated.
Cognitive Care. Keeping our mind in good shape is important. Reducing your stress levels will help you focus your attention and increase your attention span. Try to get rid of stressful situations, if you can. Try stress reduction exercises if you can't remove yourself. You can take a brief walk around your house or workplace, if possible, put in some headphones and listen to music to concentrate your thoughts. Consider taking time to practice at home, or do yoga. By sitting in a quiet place, focusing on your breathing and being mindful of your thoughts you can also reduce stress with simple meditation techniques. These stress-reducing techniques will boost the ability to focus and develop cognitive skills that are linked to concentration. Challenging mental activities can help you improve your memory, focus, reasoning and processing skills such as playing games that engages your mind like puzzles, crossword and other games.
Emotional Care. I can say that I have a hard time dealing with my emotions before. I tend to bottle up my emotions and wait for myself to burst. This is not an advisable way of dealing with emotions since we tend to lose control when we are emotional. Understanding your emotions can also be a positive strategy for getting through life in the best possible way you can. One thing that I have learned through the years is letting yourself cry. Cry all the pains and heartaches that we feel as this is our bodyās way of releasing the stress that we feel emotionally. After crying, we can notice how our body feels ālighterā. Furthermore, having a close friend whom you dearly trust is handy in handling these emotions as they can be the person beside you as you get through your problems in life. They help you release these emotions and this is actually better than handling all of these by yourself.
Social Care. Engaging with other is important in preserving our social care. We must always aim good company with other people as it radiates positive vibes. Social wellness is significant, since there are endless positive effects of establishing and sustaining healthy relationships. People who reap significant health benefits socially well and might even live longer. Building healthy relationships is vital in improving our social health. You'll need to maintain those relationships over time once you have formed connections. Strong bonds are an integral part of overall health. Even though it takes time to create connections, a social support network has many advantages. These supportive relationships are what can make the good times better and the rough times. But as creating these relationships with others, we must also learn when to detach with them whenever they bring negativity in our lives. Learn when to cut ties with them when they bring more toxicity rather than positivity.
Moral Care. Care ethics is a normative ethical philosophy that holds moral behavior as a virtue centering on interpersonal relationships and care or benevolence. One thing to keeping our moral intact is by knowing which is right or wrong. Stick to your moral code and discipline yourself. Never lose grip with your moral code.
Spiritual Care. Each person you meet is in a different place in their spiritual journey. As you interact, imagine what itās like to be in their shoes and ask God for wisdom to support them in the way they need. We should demonstrate a Christ-like attitude. Donāt just say you love someone, but truly love them and see the good in them. Stay connected with the Lord Almighty be constantly talking to Him through prayers and devotions. We must keep our souls spiritually healthy by feeding it with words from the bible. Reading the bible keeps our soul healthy and reminds us on how we should treat other people. As how my pastor used to say to us, the bible is an acronym which means ābasic instructions before leaving earthā. The bible keeps us prompted in what to do while we are still here in Earth living temporarily.
Self-care is any activity that we ensure deliberately in order to take care of our physical, cognitive, emotional, social, moral, and spiritual health. Upright self-care is crucial to improved mood and reduced anxiety. It is also significant to a good relationship with oneself and others. Self-care is not a selfish act either. It is not only about considering our needs but rather about knowing what we must do in order to take care of ourselves and able to take care of others as well.
