Mushroom Chair designed by Pierre Paulin for Artifort 1960

Pierre Paulin was a mid century French designer, most famous for his futuristic designs for Artifort. The Mushroom Chair is a significant piece of design history in that it broke from conventional methods of upholstery. Rather than being individual pieces of fabric nailed to a chair’s frame, the Mushroom Chair utilizes a single piece of elastic fabric stretched around the entire chair. It was used in The Next Generation to furnish certain crew quarters.
