Spagonia University’s campus is quiet upon arrival, making the journey approaching the library favorably peaceful. Students turned in alongside the setting sun, with the exception of those studying late into the night for fear of deadlines — an anxiety Sonic hasn’t ever been privy to, thankfully.
He’s never been one for academics, which causes him to feel rather… awkward, something of a sore thumb amongst the academy’s many shelves of literature. While he did enjoy reading from time to time, usually the material he enjoyed was of the… recreational variety. Fiction, specifically adventure novels — sometimes, the occasional book on geography or a specific culture.
Sonic couldn’t be sure if this library even incorporated any creative writing. Despite being quite extensive, the vast rows seemed to contain mostly educational entries. Mathematics, science, alchemy… Figures. He looks down at the hastily scribbled note in his possession, one detailing the books he was required to collect. He scrunches his nose.
Completely immersed by the task at hand, it’s a wonder he manages to catch the inquiry directed towards him. Upon hearing the voice, Sonic pulls away from browsing to inspect the source. Contrast to his own person, the other hedgehog befit the theme of university perfectly. Smartly dressed, heaps of books surrounding him… Sonic winces and silently hopes he didn’t interrupt something.
“Uh… Yeah, actually. I’m playin’ fetch for a buddy of mine,” he supplies, smothering his ignorance into something more polite. “He’s good friends with the head professor here. Pickle?” Sonic weakly smiles and straightens out, his gaze sweeping across the contents of the table.
“Said my friend could borrow a few things. Though t’ be completely honest with ya, I’m a little out of my element. Starting to think I’m in the wrong place, but I ain’t got the first clue where these would be…” he says, handing over the list Tails had provided. “You wouldn’t happen to know, would you? It’d be a big help.”
[ ♦ ] --- Ah, so they weren’t a student. Creon figured as much the more he had a chance to survey them. A quick glance up and down almost made the professor seem skeptical of who this stranger was and their purpose on the campus.
Specifically... what was it this hedgehog was meant to fetch?
“ I see. He is the professor of ancient literary arts. Along with a few other fields of research. ” Creon would have added that he hadn’t heard of Dillon making friends with anyone recently, but that was just a comment he chose to keep to himself. He briefly turned his attention back to the text in his hands. On the table beside him was a small envelope of various colored tabs; one of which he specifically grabbed to mark the page he was on before he closed the book. He set it aside on the shorter stack of material beside him.
“ It sounds like you’re on a mission to retrieve some books. ” He stated with little regard to their comment about being out of their element. Why yes, the professor could tell.
“ I’d be happy to, assuming you were given the names of these texts and what division they are located in. ” Creon took the paper and gave it a quick glance over. What was this handwriting? Readable but expected from-- what, a 12 year old?
“ Ah, these would be in the departmental library, where we are. You did that much correctly. These appear to be textbooks from robotics and ancient studies. Strange combination, nonetheless fitting of anyone who would call Professor Pickle a friend. ” Creon turned to Sonic and did the ‘ follow me ’ gesture with with his two forefingers. He began walking, a smooth stride to his step as he took another glance at the names of the books on the list. The traffic in the library was low enough that he felt comfortable to leave his belongings unattended for the time being; not like any of the students were going to find exam answers in there.
“ Some of these may require a library pass in order to leave the building. I don’t suppose your friend is a student so you could at least use their name? ”
