on eastern europe and the hetalia rp community
for the past couple of days, iāve been thinking and proportionally been getting more irritated when it comes to how the hetalia rp community likes to simplify slavic nation interrelations as if you can wikipedia-source this information and claim to be informed. the slavic countries have very complex and intertwining histories with each other and the west which to simplify is an incredible disrespect. so many people have this black and white idea of eastern europeās relations and say things like ābelarus hates russiaā āmy country is a victim because x reasonā because they gain the general idea just by skimming over thousands of years of history while neglecting ideas like western imperialism in the south slavic countries lasting to the modern day and russia being economically important to the belarusian presence and how the people generally donāt mind each other (especially russians)! itās just bad air between the two nationsā politicians that make the animosity seem like something you can just slap a label on. you are so in the wrong if you do this. itās simple to skew history just by skimming over and i beg you all to find multiple sources from varying views because the one generalized view will never grasp any full gravity of the situation between countries and for people already misunderstood around this world especially by the west misinterpretation by people claiming to be so passionate about a country is so awful to see. such is a case i also see about relations between lithuania and russia, macedonia and greece, romania and bulgaria, and serbia-macedonia-bulgaria.
i have also seen many roleplayers have their countries speak and know fluentlyĀ things likeĀ dead languages, far eastern languages, etc. completely ignoring very prevalent groups of people such as the jews and the romani, which is a grave disrespect to the influence and presence of these peoples that already suffer in the shadows in multiple countries. in eastern europe the jewish people had an incredible showing in belarus, russia, latvia, youāre getting the point right? but i never see a belarus or a russia or a latvia, or generally any other eastern europe country roleplayed having yiddish as a language spoken in the characterās bio. but anything to preserve that one language they learned almost a millenium ago to send some letters, rightā¦
the basic point iām trying to get to is that i am so incredibly fed up having to see people think they can get a couple days worth of reading in and say they can accurately express how their country feels toward another country by the simplest means possible. i donāt want people to think iām āno fun allowed.jpgā however whenever you make your belarus all ādestroy russia, i hate russia, russia sucksā or a macedonia having a strictly drawn triangle between bulgaria and serbia then you are wrong in handling this and you fail to grasp the real situations that are and were at hand and i find that disrespectful towards the people of these nations that are already misunderstood around the globe ESPECIALLY IN THE WEST where i know a majority of you live and you are doing nothing but perpetuating that western-centric stance further.
thank you for listening.
