The embers that normally hid were out, leaving him slightly gaunt and worn, and older than a man of his age should look, and he took Emily’s hand in a touch far softer than he thought capable, and suddenly felt pain, swallowing.
Emily… We need to talk. About us. And how I’m sorry for ever hurting you.
Emily does not know what to say at first. She looks over her husband, surprised to see him with the cane, surprised to see him so shaken, surprised to see him so… weak.Â

Why had she followed? Why had she agreed? It was in a way, hindsight, though reaching back, as much as he knew he couldn’t have killed Emily himself, he felt his fingers twitch, his expression cringe. Albert finally closed his eyes, taking a breath, swallowing, choking on a forming lump.
Tom should have communicasted.
Wily’s voice finally wavered weakly.
Talking.. Sitting may have helped…. But…. I see. Many things.
Wily opened his eyes. The man would not cry, but tears haunted a suddenly exhausted face.
Hindsight is cruel, isn’t it. But… This does give me,.. Insight as well…
His hand clutched his cane, Wily swallowing.
I fear I may be killing her myself, now…
The screen blinks back to the face of the AI. She stares at Wily, watches him carefully.
We are not good for Emily. We never are. At least, that’s what she believed.Â

Wily closed his eyes again, shuddering.
