"i swear, if i see another awful sports romance book, i’m going to lose my mind," ceren grumbled, fingers skimming over the spines lined across the shelves. her lips pressed into a thin line. there was nothing like the weight of a real book in her hands—kindles just didn’t count as real reading in her head. "any recommendations?"
maggie has frequented the bookstore a lot since settling into forks for the long haul, so it's only natural that another patron that has seen her in here more than once would ask for her opinion. ❝ right? so drab. i guess my recommendation would be based on what you typically like to read? horror, historical, romances that aren't full of barbaric masculine energy? ❞ though she's well read in history, she still prefers books about actual events than the predictable arcs of someone trying too hard to be clever.
"no, i'm not sure what this is going to be," emily admitted, noticing the other person's curious glance at her knitting. the rhythm of the needles had become a quiet comfort lately—a small refuge she'd fallen back into. "it'll probably end up being a blanket or something." she looked down at the soft shape forming in her lap, the uneven pattern somehow calming. maybe it didn’t matter what it became, as long as her hands kept moving.
❝ and i'm sure it will be beautiful. you can always make me one, if you're bored, of course. ❞ cora should probably be heading home for some shut eye, but visiting emily felt more appropriate after shift. with the vampire population ever increasing, the pack and their loved ones in the know are forever further on edge. ❝ anyway, i've been meaning to ask you if you're free this weekend for a trip up to port angeles. light shopping and lunch? i've been dying for any excuse to ignore everything for a few hours. ❞
he should have scoped the place out before he committed to a lease. if he had, leo certainly would not have come here. despite the place teeming with vampires and something else non-human that he can't quite place, something else is keeping him here besides breaking a silly human formality. is it the nostalgia of a rainy climate? or morbid curiosity that could be easily conflated to a death wish? it's something that he's not really willing to explore, so he's been filling up his nights as best he can in the small town. tonight that includes over an hour at the pool table at tip and sip. when he catches someone's eye, he can't help but strike up conversation. he'll attribute that to decades of loneliness. ❝ sorry, i suppose i have been hogging it. do you play? ❞ his accent has faded with the decades in america, though a tinge of it still shines through to an ear that knows what to listen for.
“i'm off duty,” he muttered, his eyes transfixed on the football game playing in the bar. he was never a fan of people walking up to him, trying to talk about what was going on in forks or the surrounding areas when he was off duty. it always opened a can of worms, giving people an excuse to pry further into his own business. “now, if you're here to talk about how shit the mariners played last night, then pull up a seat.”
❝ oh but chief swan, the college kids were getting so rowdy last night. you must care about such a disturbance to the community. ❞ spencer puts on his best old lady impression before charlie's eyes are pulled from the television. sadly, spencer is finding the impersonation less strenuous as time marches on. the invitation is halfway out of charlie's lips before spencer plops into the seat beside him with a lopsided grin. ❝ i'll need a beer or two to properly mourn the mariner's insistence to be the bottom of the west. ❞
Athena looked at herself in the mirror as she tried on a more MODERN dress . She is an EXQUISITE BEAUTY . something she knows all too well . Still , the vampire furrowed her eyebrows at the dress she had on . UNSURE how to feel about it . it hugged her body and quite revealing . (X)
Time certainly has progressed and if they were staying in this TOWN , best they blend in . ❝ Well , I suppose this will have to do . ❞ She muttered to herself as she now had to decide which shoes that matched dress .
if she misses one thing most pre-phasing then it's certainly the absence of the smell of vampires that is seemingly everywhere these days. many in the pack are beyond stressed, but cora sees no path forward other than to keep on as normal the best she can. which unfortunately includes searching for a new versatile dress, considering she ripped her last one after a disagreement with sam. oh, how she loathes the temperament that comes with being a fresh shifter as well. she's always hated to lose her cool.
most packmates consider all vampires mortal enemies despite the treaty of their ancestors. with the ever growing presence of the other species, cora's mindset is to remain cordial and upbeat, even when the dog comments are hurled her way. it's already growing old. ❝ that looks incredible on you. have special plans? ❞ it's a genuine question, though cora realizes the potential for them to be read as digging for information shortly after they leave her mouth. oh well, too late now.
other's thoughts were a constant underlying buzz. it was only through practiced self-control that he managed to quiet the background noise. some thoughts, however, were still TOO LOUD to silence:
[ insert your character's thought here ]
unbidden, edward's eyes flickered to the source of the words.
unbeknownst to spencer, his thoughts are as often as loud and boisterous as his voice. currently, the seattle mariners are getting their asses handed to them. the game being on is really the only reason he's been able to be contained within the drab business meeting his wife had to skip out on. now free from the owner of a more posh port angeles sporting goods store, it's only a matter of time before the hooting and hollering is ringing in the ears of all within the establishment, rather than just edward.
with the younger man's eyes on him, he feels the need to say something as he finishes cleaning off his plate. ❝ the mariner's... always a disappointment, eh? but what can ya do? i didn't even root for the angels when i lived in california. ❞
The future always depends on what people do today ... it is why , it is always changing . Never linear . Alice was waiting for the past month . it was taking them so long but alice was a patient woman . After all , she only waited for JASPER for 28 YEARS ... & It was worth the wait . ❝ ⸻ feel free to sit . I've just been here a while . ❞ alice chirped up as she drank her ICE TEA , knowing that was quite the understatement considering she had specifically and personally reserve that table for the past month .
there isn't any hesitation in maggie settling across the table from alice. in the time she's spent in forks so far, she almost envies the modern, somewhat human existence of the olympic coven. she hardly remembers anything but the darkness in her own human experiences and those were far from normal even in those times. unlike her companion, the warm mug between her hands is mostly for show, mimicking the human inability to sit still as her finger rubs against the smooth surface. ❝ you truly have a talent for remaining so cheerful. i can't imagine that the what-if's wouldn't be driving me crazy. ❞ they sort of are, as it is.
❝ The naked truth is always better than the best-dressed lie. ❞

BACKGROUND.
tw: parental abandonment, feelings of isolation
since she was first born in early 19th century ireland, maggie remembers always having a sense of when people were lying to her. this led to a lot of strain between herself and authority figures, including her parents, teachers, and sometimes even the stray constable. being lied to for any purpose has always unnerved her and relationships with nearly everyone around her in her large family suffered because of it. many were unnerved by her accuracy in calling out a lie and punishments and whispers about her being evil became more severe, but none of this ever deterred her from calling others out on their deception.
when the irish famine decimated her village, her family, like many others decided the only refuge was to sail to america. however, her parents cited financial issues in moving the entire family and maggie being the eldest as reasons to leave her behind in ireland with her maternal grandparents. despite their conviction in these easy excuses, maggie knew the biggest factor was that her parents did not feel comfortable having a strong-willed lie detector around. she had barely exited teenhood when her grandparents died and left her alone to fend for herself as the famine raged on.
things changed when siobhan and liam found her as she attempted to flee her circumstances to cork, which was rumored to barely be clinging to prosperity. maggie could sense that they were not human and siobhan was intrigued by her ability to call them out on their lie. she offered that she could make maggie strong enough to continue to live, as she was on the brink of starvation herself. maggie agreed and despite the change into becoming a vampire being excruciating, she has never once thought about leaving siobhan and liam's side sense.
she found refuge in their honesty and immediate insistence to treat her as an equal as she adapted to her new circumstances. it took liam a bit longer to warm up to her, but she has been able to keep them safe for all these years by judging the honesty in the words of others they have encountered. having two people that care about her and are always upfront with her means more to maggie than she can ever express. when she first met edward cullen, maggie could tell carlisle was obscuring something in his chat to siobhan, that being edward's gift. despite this little lie by omission, when the irish coven was called upon by the cullens in the growing unease of victoria's actions, maggie is inspired by their candor and true intentions to stick around forks despite the potential oncoming danger.
WANTED CONNECTIONS.
siobhan and liam obviously!
could be a cool concept that one of her human siblings became a vampire or child of the moon in america and they meet for the first time here in forks
friendlies of different covens over the years, though the irish coven spends a lot of time in ireland, they are known to travel and siobhan is far more sociable than she
she's been lurking around forks for a bit with others that the olympic coven has reached out to, leaving her with opportunity to form tentative friendships and/or disdain for your character based on how honest they are with her

tw: parental death
spencer newton was born and raised in sacramento, california. childhood was quite normal for him, though his dad was more free-spirited than those of his friends. he was always encouraged to pursue his passions, which primarily revolved around the outdoors. the family took many trips to different areas of the west coast, including state and national parks. one that piqued his interest when he was a teenager was the olympic national park in port angeles and the quaint little town they visited for some hiking trails, forks, washington.
much of his time as a teenager and young adult when he wasn't working at different sporting stores in the area was spent traveling to surfing spots within a few hours of sacramento. he finds himself fortunate to have met the love of his life during this time and by the time some of his high school friends were just graduating college and exploring life uninhabited by other obligations for the first time, spencer was a husband and father to his son michael newton. he loved every piece of both roles and vowed to be the supportive type of father, rather than the harsh and disapproving type that seemed all too common.
when his own father passed away from a sudden heart attack and his mother didn't wait that long to remarry to an uptight businessman, spencer and his wife made the decision to move away from the hustle of the city life of sacramento. the town of forks that had always stuck with him seemed like the perfect option, when a scouting visit to convince his wife showed the need for a dedicated sporting goods store for the tourists that trickled into the area. a legacy that he could build alongside his wife that his son could one day take over if he so chose.
they have been in forks ever since. the store has grown into a steeple of the community and spencer is in close connection with sporting good store owners in port angeles and other more populated areas in hopes of keeping tourism to forks steady. though he has mostly given up surfing after a bad accident when his son was only seven, the freezing waves sometimes still beckon him. most nights you will not find him home until darkness has settled, long after the shop has been closed. after all, who can live in such a beautiful place and spend all their time cooped up in front of the tv because of a little rain?
WANTED CONNECTIONS.
his son and wife!! perhaps more oc kids ? 👀 seriously why are most characters in twilight only children
friends, new and old. he's been in forks for a while and would be very welcoming to all newcomers, unknowing of the likely species divide between them
i think it would be very interesting for someone from his past in sacramento to show up here, as a vampire or child of the moon. how eerie it would feel that they have not aged as much as they should have
clients! in addition to owning the shop he is known to have sign ups for guided tours in the forest for hiking including some overnight backpacking expeditions

BACKGROUND.
tw: parental abandonment
cora is the youngest child of allison and joshua uley, coming along eight years after her older brother, sam. she doesn't have any memories of her father as he quickly left the reservation and his family before she could form any. her brother quickly stepped up to help their now single mother in any way he could. this meant he often helped her with homework, made dinner when allison was working late, and later would occasionally cart her and her friends to port angeles for a movie night. she has looked up to sam for her entire life, even if his protective nature and sometimes overbearing expectations can drive her a little nuts.
as close as she is to sam and allison, cora's never desired to leave la push, despite feeling a little bit disconnected from the quileute tribe due to joshua leaving. despite sam's efforts to protect her from it, she's heard all of the gossip around town regarding her father, including his potential affairs. despite sometimes feeling out of place, cora's always put on a brave face and was very social inside and outside of school. with many friends, she was often out of the house in her high school years, though she did work at the gift shop on the weekends to help out with finances.
when it came time to graduate, cora had no problems deciding what she wanted to do with her life. she attended a cosmetology school in port angeles and upon getting her degree, started to work at a salon in forks, with hopes of learning the ropes to open up her own salon in la push. hair, nails, makeup, styling... she loves to do it all. she loves to help people embrace their creativity. over the years she has sported many different looks herself, bright and colorful. these days she sticks to her natural hair, now flowing past her waist and often styled into long braids.
it is only recently as the vampire population around forks skyrocketed that cora first phased and found out the truth about their heritage that sam and the others have known for going on two years. adjusting to pack life and keeping her schedule steady at work has proven difficult, along with the uncertainty of what's to come with the growing newborn army. cora remains ever hopeful and understands that they must learn from their ancestors and their treaty with the cullen family that the only way through this is to work with the vampires. when she isn't working or on shift with the pack, she is often hanging out with other pack members and conspiring to get sam to let off some steam and have a bit of fun.
WANTED CONNECTIONS.
lifelong friends, exes, past flings, frenemies, enemies, regular clients ! she's lived in town her whole life so there's surely a way to tie her to your muse if they've been around a while.
new to the pack she would be looking for a mentor of sorts to adjust to pack life. sam's busy and he's taken care of her her whole life. wants to have some sense of independence outside of him
maybe being sam's little sister leads to some resentment from others of the pack that he goes too easy on her, which she hardly believes is the case
perhaps someone she hangs around that sam doesn't approve of? she's quick to trust others which is likely to be detrimental given current circumstances
she's less inclined to believe that vampires are inherent enemies than many other shifters, could be on friendly terms with ones she at least believes are not slaughtering people

BACKGROUND.
leo was born in london, england to a middle class family. childhood went by rather unremarkably, which he considers lucky these days. significantly younger than his two sisters, he didn't grow up particularly close to them and they were married off and out of the house by the time he wrapped up primary school. he wasn't particularly popular in school, but had a group of friends with the common interests of cars and really, finding any excuse to be out of the house. he never really felt like he could measure up to his parent's expectations of him especially after his sisters married up and built quite the lives for themselves.
upon graduating, he got a factory job that he hated, but it gave him a little bit of extra money past rent for his small flat after being given the boot to fend for himself. the long hours left much to be desired in the romance department, and a string of failed relationships followed. still unmarried by thirty, his parents weren't shy about expressing their disappointment, though he'd been able to get a decent flat by then with his fellow bachelor and best friend since primary school, calvin. so, visits to his parents became less and less frequent and leo struggled with what he believed the definition of a successful life was.
at thirty-two, however, his existence changed forever. his partner at the time turned him in to a child of the moon. his first full moon proved disastrous when he slaughtered not only his roommate and best friend, but also his roommate's girlfriend and three others in the apartment complex. what his partner thought was a romantic gesture to allow them to spend eternity together and aid in the regrowth of the children of the moon, leo saw as an ultimate betrayal. he may not have had his human life figured out, but it was a better existence than being out of control of himself with the full moon. leo fled to america and the wanted posters with his face in london have long since been replaced by more recent criminals.
he's been a child of the moon for over forty years now and tends to stick to himself. he gets a job in a remote area and moves after a year or so. he's made his way across america this way and the rainy climate of the olympic peninsula as well as the remote nature of the mountainous terrain drew him in. only problem? it's teeming with vampires. skipping out on a lease should be the least of his concerns, but for whatever reason he couldn't get himself to get his small bag of things and get back on his motorcycle to leave the town unnoticed. maybe it's the weather reminding him of home, though the rain is quite a bit more prominent. he's hoping he can keep a low profile for long enough to find somewhere new to move onto when his apartment lease is up.
WANTED CONNECTIONS.
the one that turned him. wanted connection submitted to the main. i'm picturing they have had an on again off again type relationship whenever they are in the same area. probably haven't seen each other in about a decade. leo has mixed emotions about them, considering they intentionally took his humanity, but he did love them at the time and they've been a companion in his otherwise solitary new life as a child of the moon.
definitely gives vampires a wide berth, but tries to remain friendly when interacting with them in hopes that it saves his skin if they find out about him
coworkers, drinking buddies, etc that he's made connections with since coming to town. he's pretty closed off and secretive about his past but doesn't mind shooting the shit with others
with chemistry, it's possible for him to grow close to someone in town. he's really not had any close connections in a while and the loneliness does weigh on him, but he generally values his safety more.
