Happy 2 year Tumblr blog post to me! Yay! I’ve been on Tumblr since 2012, but have since started this account. Due to being locked out of my old account, I had to start this new one. The past year has been great. I’ve learned many things about my craft, and things that life teaches me as a person. In the next year, I hope to ramp up the blog with more behind the scenes videos, how-to, thoughts, tips, advice, and random postings like this one. How many years does your blog have?

Monday: Office Day.
Hey, folks! It is Monday, and it is time for us to get out of bed and do our pre-planning for the week! Are you ready? Although I won’t walk you through the steps, because everyone has different plans, I will go over a few things I like to do on Monday to help organize things and help my freelance week. Firstly, I make sure I check and alter my calandar. I have a physical planner where I write down dates, and a digital calandar found in Mac OS and iOS that syncs my events. I make sure I only write down the things that pertain to my photo business and not things like “make sure to get cucumbers at the store.” I even set the dates for what might happen 2 weeks and more into the future on Mondays sometimes. Seeing what is on the calendar is a good definite start to a week. Next, I check the email. You never know when a good job lead came in over the weekend, and we do not want the clients to wait. Plus, Monday is our office day, and this could not be a better time to start planning for an assignment! All weekend email gets answered on Monday. Last, I make sure I do everything office-related. File things, organize letters, organize the sticky notes, back up files (very important). Everything besides making actual art/photographs is what Office Mondays is all about. Try to make today the Monday that makes you the most productive. If you’re running a freelance creator business, today could be the day you really get your rockets fired up. Use waking up, being early, and setting a few hours aside to do office organization, even if you only have 2 hours to do that and have to work another job today. Your achievements in the future will thank you for it.

Teaching a Class on Skillshare.com!
I’ve been writing a class outline for a video tutorial I’m releasing on Skillshare.com in spring. I will keep everyone updated. The class is going to combine photographs and actual paint. It’s going to be so fun! Are you interested in joining? Skillshare is a great place to watch really well put together videos relative to professionalism and creativity. I’ve learned so much just by making an evening event curling up on the couch and watching great educational videos on my own time. Be sure to look out for the launch date. I will be updating more as I create the class.

Learning Arduino for Photography
Hey, folks! For an upcoming photo project coming out next month, I plan on building and programming an Arudino board to fire off some flashes once a sound is made. The project is part of a piece that is going to represent how brief beauty is in time. An ephemneral moment is what I'm after as well as a case study/portfolio piece for how I’d shoot a commercial project. Stay tuned for more updates about the project! A Poem About Lighting.
I made up a short poem about a few things to avoid when lighting portraits. Key light too high, key light to low, look out background lights hitting the nose. Keep flags on rim lights to avoid flare on the go, and meter all your light right--avoid the overexposed! I’m going to win one night at a coffee shop. Not really.
