So, uhh...what did you make today #LuthierInTraining #Cocobolo #EvenIfItKillsMe
Officially the oldest left handed guitar I have played to date. 1967 Fender Stratocaster, Courtesy of Gruhn Guitars - Nashville, TN
So, it's been a few years since I put the Les Paul together, and I think I'm ready to make some changes. The input jack needs replaced and since the original Seymour Duncan Invader has been overtaken by rust, I think I'm going to replace it with one of these bad boys. The Lace Alumitone Humbucker. Also I think I will put the original pickup in a nice display case and give that away to one of the donors from the project. Stoked
Got this today, so stoked...
Got this from Dad the other day...not really sure where he's going with it, but hey...it's Dad, I know shit will be awesome
I get asked fairly regularly where I got the idea for my guitar, and while inspiration originally came from a graphic designer named Leah Culver who sold ad space to afford buying a powerbook (she had the company's who bought space logo's laser etched on the case), the idea of having guitars that were unique yet held some traditional style started with Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick. Since the first time I heard the guitar solo in I Want You To Want Me, I have been a huge fan of his playing, but also his style and personality. He had guitars with 5 necks built, he had a double neck built to look like him (see image), and his checkerboard explorer is instantly recognizable (the knobs are painted so when they are in the right position, they line up with the design). I recently learned that Rick Nielsen has an exhibit of his guitars, amps, and other artifacts in his home town of Rockford, IL. I'm going to have to check that out as soon as possible. If you have some time and want to learn more about one of the coolest guitarists in history, I highly recommend http://rickspickslive.com/
Done!
Not too terrible
Apparently Dad is working on the Les Paul again...guitar-mania this year for real
Telecaster Update #2
Body is completely sanded
new pickguard has been ordered
picking up the paint tomorrow.
then routing the inlay
painting this weekend.
stoked
So...a bit of a surprise when I started sanding...well, actually it was a little while after I started, but I got under finish and found a black base coat. So I kept going, nothing like improvising LOL
This will be inlayed into the body...it's perfect
Telecaster Update
Going with a Seymour Duncan Lil' 59 instead of a Duncan Distortion. Stoked. Figured out the inlay today...unreal
So now that I have this beautiful new telecaster, the only question is, what can I do to customize it/destroy any resale value it might have?
Not entirely sure what I'm going to do about the finish whether I want to have something laser engraved, or if I want to relic it, or maybe even inlay something into it (I've been toying with the idea of having a guitar with Japanese Yen inlayed into the body for some time now)
Suggestions are welcome
With The Punches have been busy as of late between announcing a Bamboozle preshow on May 18th and this summer’s PropertyOfZack sponsored tour with Forever Came Calling and State Champs. But at the helm of all excitement surrounding the band right now is the release of...
