Been cooking this up for awhile, my cool ass TADC rewrite/redesign. Everyone is mostly different the only major changes in writing are kinger, pomni, ragatha, and jax

I feel like the pilot did a bad job of setting up both Pomni and Jax as the main characters, and that’s mainly because Ragatha is the one who gets attacked by kaufmo.

Ragatha objectively is more of a main character in the pilot than Jax. She has several moments with Pomni where she opens up, she’s attacked by Kaufmo and when Pomni runs away it’s a big character moment for both of them. Jax is in silly mode the whole time, which is interesting in hindsight, but because there’s no cracks in his persona he’s basically a one dimensional side character. Which is bad if he’s going to be the main character.

I think if instead, Kaufmo immediately attacked Jax, then him being a main character would feel less like it came out of nowhere. This would set up his contentious relationship with Kaufmo, it would give Ragatha and Jax a serious moment early on, and it would also show cracks in Jax’s funny guy facade.

You could still have the moment where Pomni runs away from Ragatha (which starts their friendship arc) but she would also be running away from Jax, which you could use to highlight the differences between Ragatha and Jax. Ragatha is deeply hurt by Pomni leaving, while Jax expects or even wants her to leave.

Imagine if a pre-deletion Caine did catch the brain scan of an Actual Child though jfc. Being a kid and genuinely enjoying playing around in that world for a while, maybe even for days, but then when you inevitably get overstimulated and homesick and Tired of it you’re just told by the same person who’s given you such a fun experience that you can’t go home anymore. This is what it is now. This is all it is

I remember like. In the pilot days some people were theorizing that Jax been in the circus since they were a teenager.

And ngl I kind of love that idea—right as everything begins to fall apart with their parents, and they’re starting to figure out something isn’t quite “normal” about them, they get transported to this magical dreamscape where none of their problems matter and their body doesn’t feel like it isn’t right anymore…

I never really got why Jax treated the other people like they weren’t real, or had some delusion that nothing in the circus mattered or was real…. But I think if they joined when they were very young it would make more sense to me.

anyways. jax and gangle's relationship is such a palpably clear example of abuse and im fascinated on how little that is touched on by the audience. the way jax despises gangle and her presentation. the way gangle gets to jax in a way that threatens her so badly. the way jax felt so targeted after his discussion with ribbit that he likely feels anyone could be looking at him and connecting dots he doesnt want connected at any moment. gangle being the most vulnerable woman in the circus at the time that jax can let his pent up frustration and internalized misogyny onto. the way jax named her. the way gangle cant get herself to cry when he abstracts. the heartbreak of seeing someone destroy themself so much that you can SEE the ripple effects. he self destructs so badly that the shrapnel from the blast just tears into gangle one million times over. the way that Jax denying her own truth led to her attacking what she saw of herself in others.

Guys does being trans and depressed give you an excuse to drive your extremely supportive friends, who do literally nothing in the narrative expect support you, to suicide. Along with violently hurting the other ones to the point where one is scared to disobey you and thinks you’re going to violently hurt her just for having boundaries and saying “no”

I’d agree with OP if the rest of the cast was also a bunch of mentally ill jack asses who torment each other because they’ve lost their minds.

Like that would make sense—the Circus is kind of a horrifying place to be trapped in forever—but that’s not the tone of the show. Everyone else is doing pretty okay, and when they’re not they sit in a therapy circle and work their shit out.

TADC is about how one femcel loser ruins everything for themselves and everyone else because they’re too cowardly to ask for help.

I have bigger complaints about the finale that I've already written about so I'm not going to get into all that again, but I still think its absolutely criminal that Kinger and Caine did not exchange words at any point. They have nothing to say to each other???? At all???? After that??? The little fishing thing in the credits was cute but the fact that they didn't hash it out even a little bit on screen is crazy.

I know Kinger is “sane” now so this wouldn’t work, but I would have liked Caine to have this beautiful monologue to Kinger about how he resents and adores Kinger for creating him. Maybe a tearful apology for “failing” to keep his friends and wife happy, which led to their abstractions, and Kinger losing his mind…

And then Kinger says some shit about kickboxing flamingos and Caine just exits stage left.
