She almost laughs at the change in direction, but catches herself at the last second, arching a dark eyebrow at him in surprise, instead. 

"How about if you tell me the story, and then we can dance? Does that sound fair? If you’re willing, that is. I’d like to hear it."

"If y'like." He concedes, reaching for his mug and tilting it back, giving himself time to think, choosing the words. Story-telling may be one of his fortes, but some stories come more easily than others. 

"My pop was never much one for bein' a father, an' he never much took to livin' up here 'neath the sun." And he never would have, had Haverk never been born. "Drank himself stupid, day'n night, an' went an' got hisself drowned in th' Denerim Harbor." 

The sailor tips the mug again, emptying his glass and waving for another. "He wasn' a good man." Then again, neither am I. "But he was my pop."

He pushes the empty mug away, and reaches to prop his chin on his fist, bells in his mustache ringing almost merrily. "I'd rather tell ye happy stories, lass. I'm much better at 'em."

“We either live happily ever after or we get killed by horrible curses.”

"Tha's a dauntin' thought, seein' as how I've little enough chance at th' former." He chuckles. "And what about you, lass? Happily E'er After in your future?"

"Oh, sweet, I’m sorry. What happened exactly, if you don’t mind sharing?"

He studies her for a moment, pondering his answer. It isn't often he takes such obvious care with his words, and after such consideration he only shrugs. 

"It's no' all that involvin' of a tale, lass, though there's no secret to it. Surely ye'd rather we dance than listen to a seadog whine."
