Emma looked over at the sound of the phone hitting concrete. She’d become rather adept at keeping track of phones since her life had recently depended on access to a cell phone. “Hey,” she waved at the unbelievably tall man, maybe talking to strangers still wasn’t safe. Surely, Magnolia was safer than Lakewood, though. “That looks pretty bad,” she gestured at the fallen phone, “do you need to borrow a phone?”
As Sam’s hazel gaze glanced downwards to his shattered phone, he realized the woman’s statement was correct. The damage done to his phone was horrific. There was no other method of getting in contact with his elder brother. A small nod of his head indicated acceptance of her offer. “Yeah, that’s be great. Thanks.”
“Uh, here,” she smiled, and unlocked her phone, closing all the open apps before opening the phone app. Emma nodded, handing it over to him, only a little reluctantly. She didn’t know what he needed it for, and trusting people was ultimately new, but every journey started with a step. Or whatever the saying was.
