The brunette sighed & glanced up. “Take a photo, it will last WAY longer.” Soft words left her cherry lips before shaking her head. “What do you want?”

“—Sorry, it’s just, is that...?” He stepped a bit closer and leaned over to look at the words of her book. “It is! That’s a favorite of mine. Beautifully written.”

      tipping back his head, the wolf lets out a frustrated groan. “and here i thought you were the magic guru of devils lake.” he huffs, though there’s a ghost of teasing smile still alighting his lips. “mm. you got any vervain in ??” nate quirks a brow, lingering in the back despite having been given his cue to get moving.

“I can’t just pull magic out of my ass. It has rules, you know.” Upon hearing the werewolf’s question, he glances up at him with weary eyes. “For what, exactly?”

      “well with all these books around-” nate drawls, tugging one off the shelf and flipping it open. the cover creaks, a flurry of dust rises up and he coughs sharply. “-you’d think you might’ve read about one.” the wolf groans, hand covering his mouth as his lungs reject the unwelcome particles. dumping the book back on the self not exactly where he’d found it ( but close enough ), the other takes a further step into the back office. attention focuses on the trinkets and antiques duval has lining the walls, low hum leaving his lips as his eyes wander. “hm, what ?? her name ??” the wolf throws duval a bemused look over his shoulder. “katie i think. or karly. something beginning with k.” 

“Well I can’t do anything with it unless I have her name,” he scoffs, balling up the necklace in his hand. He follows behind his friend (?) and with an inaudible grumble, places the book back in its correct place. “Anything else you want? It’s my lunch break soon, so hurry.”

      he almost expects the blow to the back of his legs ( mainly because duval hitting him comes as no surprise ) but he still stumbles forward and has to wobble to find his balance. “ass.” he mumbles under his breath, following the witch’s footsteps to the backroom. this area is possibly worse than the front shop, thick dust lining the surface of some of the items that clearly hadn’t been touched in a while. “ever think of investing in a cleaner ?? or you know…using a fucking spell to sort your shit out ??” nate tuts, eyeing the shelves disdainfully. letting out a weary sigh, his gaze drifts to the rack of pre-spelled jewelry before he shakes his head. “please, she’s hot but she’s not that hot.” folding his arms across his chest, he leans against the door frame and watches the male with a look of bemusement. “that’ll do. i’ll give her the name of this place in case she decides to actually get it spelled and needs a not half-awful witch to do it.” scratching at his jaw, his lips stretch into a lazy smirk. “of course, she’ll say that jake sent her. but for your reference, that’s me.”

“Do I look like a witch encyclopedia?” he asks, blowing the dust off of something on the counter. “--I don’t just know a cleaning spell off of the top of my head. Anyway, the dust is part of the aesthetic.” He offers Nate a jocular grin. “I can do it now, if you want, Jake.” He scoffs. “What’s her name?”

“Yes, I’m sure,” she replied, her tone sounding somewhat impatient. “Don’t worry, I want to see the super-secret supernatural section and all, but I also want to see the other things. I have plenty of time today, so I’m gonna be around here for a while,” she kept saying, perhaps a little more bluntly than it would be advised. Max crossed her arms over her chest, a small smile spreading across her lips. She was his only customer, anyway; no one was there to hear what she said. “So?”

“Great,” he spoke, voice anything but thrilled. He straightened the newspaper with a loud rustle and proceeded to read about another recent death. Christ, he thought, you’d think no one would want to live here. When he heard her voice again, he looked up, a messy eyebrow raised in inquiry. “So... what?”

“Well then, we might just have something in common.” Lee replied. “Well, except you’ve been here longer than me. I’ve only been here for about half of the year.” He shrugged, realizing he was looking at his screen. “Wanna help me with this?” Lee offered.

“Sure.” He stood up from his seat and crossed the short distance between Lee and him. He leaned over, using his cane to balance, and peered at the other man’s screen. “What’s the problem?”

“Ugh,” the blonde groaned. Just what I need right now. Taking her sweet time, she got up and turned to face the voice addressing her. “Would you relax? I’ll put everything back to where it was. I’m just looking for something.” Said she, as if her breaking in  wasn’t a big deal.

“Could you– you know– wait for us to open?!” He sounded completely baffled. He was both angry at flabbergasted, but he was still half-asleep and unable to express anything but the latter. “I’ll– I’ll call the cops!” He knew he actually wouldn’t, seeing as she was in the supernatural section of the store. “Just– get out!”

vincent wandered around town searching for something to keep him BUSY rather than, working on a case that wasn’t worth his attention or time. looking up to the nearest building’s sign, he read ( mathieu’s antiques && things ) raising his brow, he found the name to be unusual. might as well just call it we sell old stuff here. shaking his head, he headed on in anyways. taking a quick scan of the dark but still well lit store, he eventually met eyes with the man who welcomed him. “ afternoon. ” he replied with a light nod && walked further in. “ i had just been browsing when i came upon your business. mind answering a question ?? ” he asked. strolling past the desk && looking up at a shelf of books, before turning his attention on the man. “ what exactly does things, entail ?? ”

He failed to look up from his work, ballpoint pen sketching a tiny leaf next to the obituaries. “Depends who’s asking,” he spoke, voice nonchalant.

     he doesn’t care much for antiques really, scratch that he doesn’t care at all for them. and he doesn’t get duval’s interest either…another on the list of things he’ll never understand about the witch. still, he finds himself wandering the cramped, dusty little shop nonetheless; in search of something cheap and cheerful. “got anything worth less than twenty bucks ?? there’s a hot vampire passing through and i said i’d pick out a decent bit of daylight jewelry.”  

"Not for you," he spoke, though he soon stepped off of his chair and walked around his desk. "C'mon." He smacked the back of Nate's legs with his cane and made his way towards the door to the left of his desk, adorned with a gold plaque reading EMPLOYEES ONLY. He walked through first, not stopping to hold it open for his guest. Inside the (admittedly dusty) room were bits and bobs much more interesting than those in the prior one. Tiny bottles containing swirling liquids lined the shelves alongside old, leather-bound books. Tall, looming windows framed the back wall, though he'd cast a spell to cleverly disguise the room as empty for anyone looking from the outside in. "Here are my pre-spelled ones," he spoke, motioning towards a small wooden rack, before opening a small drawer at the bottom. "These are, you know, a bit more than twenty. But if you want something cheap and effective..." He pulled a small necklace from the top shelf of the rack. "How about something like this?" It was clearly inexpensive, with a tiny quartz hanging from a thin, silver-colored chain. "If you wanna go cheap, that is."

Johanna had ducked out of her own shop the moment that the afternoon sun was slightly going down. At least enough that she could quickly get into the shop closest to her without catching on fire. With careful steps she crept into the store lowering the hood of her jacket down. “Afternoon. I was wondering if you had any German table clocks? Preferably a Junghans made in the 19th century, but any early 1900s model will also do.”

“Yeah, I actually think I have one,” he said, standing up and grabbing his cane. He made his way around the desk so that he was standing in front of the blonde. “You said 19th century?” He walked over to a glass cabinet where his more expensive small antiques were held. After a moment of peering in, he used a tiny key to open it up, before gesturing to a black table clock with a yellowing face. “I’m almost positive that this is a Junghans, and...” He picked up the clock and read the small engraved text at the bottom. “Yeah, 1890′s Junghans.”

“It’s old, isn’t it? No difference,” Max said, looking at him with an indifferent look on her face. Her eyes wandered away, and she was noticing one of the plants on a table as she kept speaking. “Nope. I just want to take a look.”

If she wanted to look into things that weren’t for humans, she’d have to be specific. He wasn’t stupid enough to have spell books and potions sitting out for anyone to see. “Are you sure?”

Max let her eyes wander around the store, the smell of plants and dust filling her lungs. After overhearing a conversation about an antique store with some sort of secret supernatural section, there was no way she wouldn’t stop by. The original approached one of the book shelves, running her fingertips through them as she read the titles with interest. Still looking at the shelves and the plants on the tables, Max made her way to the counter. She offered the man sitting behind it a sweet smile. “Hello there. Isn’t this an antique store? Where you keep all the ancient stuff?”

Duval was quickly regretting his welcoming smile, because now the girl was making her way to him. Why did everyone want a conversation? “I wouldn’t call it ancient,” he said, pushing his newspaper aside. “Is there anything in particular you’re looking for?”

Where is it. The question replayed itself over and over in the frustrated blonde’s mind as she rummaged through the drawers, her awful determination showing. Where is it. It was already past midnight but the moonlight lit up the shop in its pale light, making it easier for the vampire to find what she wanted. Where is it. Breaking in the tiny shop wasn’t difficult, not at all. Ever since the owner invited her in earlier that day, her plan had been in motion. Where is it. She kept asking herself, not stopping even when she sensed someone else’s presence.

“What the hell?!” Duval boomed, cane held over his shoulder like a weapon as he flicked on the light. He was a notoriously light sleeper, and when he’d heard someone rustling below his apartment, he’d hobbled down the stairs. “Get the hell out of my store!”

“Don’t play with my heart like that.” Mary let a smirk appear on her lips, arching her eyebrow at the brunet’s words. “It could easily mean two bottles too, though.” The Heretic said, tilting her head with a smirk on her lips. 

“My money, my rules.” He smirked back and sat at the bar once again, before catching the attention of the bartender and ordering two scotches. He didn’t care if she liked scotch or not. He took a sip of his and met her eyes. “Drink up.”
