Nixie raised her hand. “While it’s definitely better than an essay, what if we don’t feel any passionate feelings? What if we just feel normally. I don’t think I have enough in me to write a whole poem and make it believable.”

“don’t get me wrong, you won’t always be writing about how you  f e e l. poetry can be written about... pretty much anything. from common objects to observation. although, i think you’d be able to feel enough to write about what’s going on inside of your head.”

“in thought, poetry is sometimes referred to as the most passionate form of expressing emotion. from love... to ecstasy... to loneliness... to hatred. poetry is built by feeling. it’s meant to be there to almost be... a  p i e c e  of a human being. that’s what we’ll be learning in here. to put pieces of yourself onto paper. ...of course, some of you i realize won’t enjoy this unit, but, sorry, suck it up. it’s better than some sort of essay other teachers make you do. any questions?”

“Of course I can,” her smile grew. There was nothing she loved more than showing people what she could do and how good she was at it. “Unlike other witches, I wasn’t born with any power. What I have, I got on my own using spells and the right ingredients. Why, my favourite one is using magic flowers to keep myself young, I wouldn’t have lived half a millennium without that.”

“magic flowers... to keep yourself young.” he repeated, like he almost couldn’t process the idea. “so spells... require ingredients. so you can’t conjure up any of your own. but these other witches, who are born with magic, can?”

“Instructed to come here? Surrounded by teenagers? What could possibly be worth coming to this place other than your kids?” she genuinely wondered. There were too many stuck-up kids here for Rose’s comfort, she wouldn’t be there if she had the choice.

“think of it as a political decision. the general decided that i could possibly try to recruit teenagers for the first order. however, i don’t really think, with how independent and, to be frank, intelligent those your age are, that idea will have much luck. not to mention, rhetoric is more his strong suit, not mine.”

In The (Literal) Closet || Zander, Han, & Kylo

han wanted to focus on the laugh. on the laugh that was echoing from zander’s throat, from those lips that were only inches away, twitched upwards in a smile, granting them confirmation, VALIDATION, and so much more. the smile that han could f e e l against themselves when they were pressed against their skin. they wanted to stay in these close quarters for a little while more and drink in the child of the enemy–forgetting their circumstances once more.

but that wasn’t what they got. before they could smile and resume, light was filtering in, all too blinding against the dimly lit closet–and the person responsible was all too threatening. the rebel froze, eyes glued to the man draped in black, and instinct kicked in. a threat–surely, a threat–, he was silent and towering, and han didn’t know what to do. that bliss was melted from them and was replaced by shock and fear and—protectiveness. 

the closet was small. tiny, even. and it only took han a mere step to move in front of zander, hands moving from their pockets to feel the air. perhaps the force would be kind of things turned…sour. han tested it, attempting to yank the closet door shut, leaning back to mutter through their teeth.

“…how much d’you wanna bet we’re fucked here..??”

In all, it took less than two seconds for any illusion of calm to be shattered. Completely smashed. Out of everyone in the school that could have opened the door, of course it was him. Of fucking course. Because Zander didn’t live in some high school drama show where nothing went wrong unless ratings were lacking. Or if they did, this show seriously should have been cancelled by now. 

But no amount of metaphors and distractions could detract from the fact that this was…this was actually happening. Admittedly, Zander knew they’d get caught at some point. It was basically impossible to have their father running around and either not see them or not catch on. Or have someone rat them out. But Zander probably would have preferred telling him themself to getting caught essentially breathing the same air. There was no real way to ease into this conversation. 

Zander just stared at Han, completely avoiding eye contact with Kylo. That seemed to be the best –and only– course of action they could manage. Words they could usually fire like arrows –or more like cannon balls, not exactly aimed properly but wieldy enough to not matter– escaping them for once.

“I’ve got three dollars.”

he was often called intimidating. that was the best way to put it. he was always looming, menacing, lingering. he was like a black cloud that would never leave, like a shadow... and now, he wasn’t even thinking of how terrifying his presence was, or, even, menacing, to the two teenagers he caught getting rather comfortable in a supply closet of all things. not that he’d not been sneaky before; there were quiet a few times where he’d had to have hid his... affections in the back corridors of the jedi academy or the halls of the finalizer. but, that had nothing to do with... this. 

he didn’t comment on the chatter between the two. instead, he looked between them, full lips in a thin line and his eyes - oh, his eyes - were unreadable, even to himself. did he feel betrayed? did he feel angry? did he feel like he, in a way, had failed? he couldn’t tell. he was just... staring.

“...what in the entire galaxy is the meaning of this?” he asked, voice low and rasped, as usual, and deep, breaking the awkward silence in the room that lingered for seconds after the two had spoken. “and how long did you plan for this to go on before telling your father?” he didn’t specify who he was speaking to or of. was it poe dameron? was it hux? or was he referring to himself as zander’s father? well, the child never did, at least around him, but he didn’t know whether he should call himself that or not...

his hands were at his sides. he couldn’t even cross his arms. fairly, he was shocked.

zander was leaning back, and han stayed put, a small smile taking the place where the other’s lips had been as hands were being dragged from zander’s back pockets and were falling back to their sides, finding refuge in their own. they’d gone through the motions–awkward flirting, half-dates, handing over their jacket with a heartfelt compliment, and now? dragging the other into closets to enjoy the irony among other things han simply couldn’t get enough of. or rather, it was zander they found themselves oddly craving. be it simple company or affection, the rebel was all too eager to fall into any interaction they had to offer. 

“..yeah,” voice held evidence of their smile, which was ever growing, “guess it did. you uh.. you okay with it??”

Zander nodded, laughing a little. They laughed…a lot more now than they used to. The new environment definitely helped. A place where they didn’t have to stand up straight and follow direct orders, where it was fine if they fell out of line or, really, showed any sort of emotion. And people who didn’t immediately assume to know them because of their surname, who saw past the First Order training and just…saw them as they were. Accepted them for it. Liked them for it. Liked them enough to deal with the dancing around they’d been doing, trying to avoid all the fuss that tended to come with this sort of thing, especially given the circumstances. 

“Yeah,” They finally answered after a moment. “Definitely okay with this.”

‘watch them. they and amidala are all we have.’ hux’s words burned in the back of his head after their brief holo conversation, and he sighed, two fingers pressed against his temple. where in the hell was the kriffing supply closet? he couldn’t find anything in this damn school. all he had to get was just a broom. a broom to clean up the pile of dust that spilled all over his classroom floor, covering the tile in a charcoal black cloud. he’d just get the broom, go back to the class, clean it up, and then he could rest his head... he was having those headaches again; the ones induced by the dark and light force at war with each other inside of him. and amidala was out somewhere with the enchante girl; she couldn’t possibly help. trying to remember the name of the medicine the other teachers recommended, he closed his eyes briefly after finding the closet, and when he opened the door-

...his heart stopped. he stared. brown eyes that were cold and shattered, all he could do... was stare. at the child that grew up in his and hux’s hands, and at the child of the enemy, the one that was already wanting to kill him from before. and he said nothing. all he did... was stare.

“Right, of course,” she could tell she was getting too heated about the topic, so she moved on. “So what was your main reason for coming here? Was it to see your kids?”

“i was more... instructed to come.” snoke’s orders, combined with hux’s. to recruit possible members of the first order. “but... amidala definitely was something that made this easier.”

“And where is it you are from? A different world that is all new techology crap.” Harley asked with a big smile “I’m got out of prison so seeing paper does not do anything for me.”

“a felon. i should have expected as much.” he remarked. “i’m from a galaxy far beyond your reach; far, far away.”

“Well…Some of us aren’t so fortunate to be good.” she admitted, an almost morose look in her eye as she smiled down at him. “I know you and I are roughly the same age, I’m sure, but I would enjoy seeing you succeed in this life in ways that I failed. Just…Just don’t tell anyone. I have a reputation to uphold.” she confessed lowly, the words practically searing the flesh of her mouth as she spoke them. It was unbelievably hard for her to say such things, yet here she was. “I haven’t even thought to ask…What is your name, love? I’m Constance, Constance Hatchaway.”

“and you say this as somebody who is not?” a daring question, but he had lost most of his tact a long while ago. “...i will keep your secret. as long as you do not betray me or do anything that will cause me to lose my... trust in you.” he stiffened. “...kylo ren. clearly not as complex as ‘constance hatchaway’, but it is all i go by now.”

“Ancient Greece? Watch out for that one, that’s where those gods come from. Although Hades is fun, I like his methods. I was hoping he would be joining us here. Personally I prefer paper, all my spells are in books that I own, and no one can take them.”

“spells...” he muttered the word under his breath. spells. those were like magic. he’d never seen magic in his life, just the highs and lows of the force. “...can you tell me more?”

alright, so i got through almost all of kylo's replies and they're queued up, i have like two more to get to but it's almost 4 am here and i don't feel like pulling an all-nighter. i'm supposed to go shopping sometime tomorrow, but i'm going to get may's, ian's, avery's, and maybe holly's tomorrow. i'll also finish the last few hero kids on the taken page for that, and i'll post a new starter on ami, danny, and cyrus. in the meantime, link ( @timelcsshero ) is here and has a starter posted! you don't have to match length, i promise. if anybody wants to plot, hmu on ian. see you tomorrow!

“So you understand,” she was happy to hear someone else realize the two sides to the story ideal. “I just can’t believe how blind some people can be, not seeing the good in an action just because it’s done in a way that seems too drastic to them,” Rose sighed. “Oh but pen and paper just gives you a whole other kind of connection to what you’re reading, it really is a great feeling to use it.”

“there’s... certainly an amount of complexity to it.” he preferred not to dive much further; he’d realized he’d done too many wrong things to really fall into the group she was referring to. he’d done awful things. things that couldn’t be forgiven so quickly. “pen and paper... it’s different. i’ve never held either up until this day; my daughter has quite a liking for it, however.”

“Oh sweetheart, you don’t have to be good with people. Look at the man who is running this country of sorts. He was a mere boy who was punished for notably freaking out about a creepy old woman trying to come inside his house and left scarred for life and turned into a monster. Yet he was redeemed by ‘love’ and here we are now! He was by no means good to belle, or so the story goes at first…” She trailed off as her wicked eyes met his, and a delighted smirk crossed her face. “There is something so dark and morbid about you that is so…soothing to me. It’s wonderful being in like company. We’re both monsters in our own right, dearie. All we need now is a little redemption from the right people at the right time with the right amount of publicity.”

“i am not just made of darkness.” he wouldn’t dive in deep, but he was still at war with himself on the inside. light battling over dark, the light being snuffed out until crawling back out of the cracks; it was almost poetic. “...but, i will follow along with what you say. to an extent. i am not one for publicity; i have said before, i am not good with people.” he was normally not so easily swayed, but this woman’s words were like honey. he should have been stronger, but this... alliance she seemed to be proposing, how could he not comply? if he was a monster, such as she... they would have to learn to stick together.
