Summary: A university girl who is not believing in ghost reading a horror book for the literature class in the library and fall asleep, after she wakes up she found that she is being followed by someone who is wearing a red jacket.
In the filming, we used Sony a6000 camera and placed it in vertical which looks like using Snapchat to show the story to the others. We used 25p 17M record-setting, white balance is an incandescent mode that the lightning will be darker and fit to the atmosphere of a horror video. Also, we used a small tripod that we can keep the camera more steadily, to avoid the chances to film our fingers incidentally when the cameraman is running and avoid the viewer feel dizzy while watching the video.
From Tarsem Singh’s work, he uses colour to represent a character, such as a devil is red, pure is yellow, black and white is describing the past. Colours is a powerful tool which can influence the whole story, so we would also use colour in the same way as director Singh.
The point to pay attention with is, due to the main “character” here is the red, that need to ensure cannot see any/some red in the same scene when it is unnecessary, which will confuse the viewer.
Tarsem Singh uses colours to represent a certain character and its traits.
We used the colour red to represent the devil, evil, anger and danger.
Camera:
Tarsem Singh uses shots of people and objects and fades them into or overlays them with objects/landscapes with similar features in order to make the transition aesthetically pleasing for the viewer.
We used a female mannequin dressed in red to transition into the girl/devil dressed in red.
Story twists:
Tarsem Singh produces films with a fairytale/folks tale aspect but the ending differs from the expected story known by the viewer.
We use a folks tale aspect but it is up to the viewer how the story will end.
Like Lei Fong Lee said in our journal 4/12: we changed the story. The story is changed due to problems with finding actors. We’re both Erasmus students so we were unable to find friends who were willing to walk around Edinburgh all day for a school project.
New story and medium:
The series is called Rouge (red in French). Each episode is places in a different part of the world. The cameraman is the main character filming her day on Snapchat. In each Snap, a person in a red jacket can be seen. Sometimes quite close and sometimes far away. This person with the red jacket represents the devil and he/she will try to catch the person filming. The person filming can ask the audience for help on what to do. The viewer can interact through the Snapchat chat function and giving advise. It is up to the viewer if the person filming will survive. The viewer can also interact and help with small details. For example, the person filming will ask ‘’Should I spend my last bit of money on this T-shirt or should I keep it so I can take the bus home?’’. The decisions made will affect the story.
Snapchat will allow viewers to be totally immersed in the story and to be able to fully interact and decide where the story will go. In a way, it is a game but with different endings and twists.

This is one of the videos that we consult with. In the video, it creates an environment that makes people feel they are inside the scene since you can’t see anyone in it. Also, we only have two people in the group and we are exchange student that it is quite hard for us to film a story with people. This is also the reason why we gave up shooting a fairytale story.

In short, making a good horror video the lightning and music is the most important element that we need to pay more attention to it ;)
In today’s meeting, Jessica and I decided to film a horror web series opening instead of a fairytale story. The reason why I agree with the idea is I think a new environment for us, an exchange student, is uneasy. Also, if the filming is not in indoor, it is also a good chance for us to explore the new place - Edinburgh. ;)
We spent around 3 - 4 hours to finish the filming, the locations are in the center of the city, near the Edinburgh Castle.
About the work assignment, Jessica and I are the actresses that you can find us on the web series!! Jessica is the editor of our web series since she is more passionate about it. I am the director of the web series and the editor of the video of the behind the screen.
It is very interesting to work with the other to make a video because in the process you can learn to listen to your partner's opinions and give yours in a gentle way. Some ideas will come up in the discussion that not only the one who thinks the idea has the contribution, so it is good to keep saying your opinions and wants when you are working with others. Actually, I am not good at group project since I don’t like to argue with the others which are inevitable in a group work that I don’t really say what I would like to do. However, in our group, we only have two people which push me to think more and to talk more. I enjoy it so much, so thank you, Jessica.

-The story background: Snow White (Fairytale)
Beginning with the story: uses animation with narrative to tell the origin snow white story, then turn into live action, a new story birth.
Use of colour: Before the King is back, the colour in castle is only gold, orange, yellow, and white. In the town, the colour is always in dark colour.
- The difference shows the difference between the social class.
After the King is back, more colours in the castle.
Queen want to be the no.1, that everyone needs to obey her order. To express her ambition, the red colour represents her. Also, each dwarf has their own colour, that the colour can represent their personality.
Snow white has not been outside the castle, and she concerns about the town and the people living there that her clothes are always in warm colour. After she decided to learn how to fight and wants to defeat the queen, the dark blue colour used to represent her. The colour can show the change and growth of a character.
Sound: When the prince cast a spell, puppy love, you can hear the sound a dog usually make.

When the story changed by the different perspective of an adult (have more experience in the world) and a child (wants everything to be good).
The reaction from a girl appears in the story character, which is very odd but it is a very good twist to change the scene.
Using the very likely shape to change the scene, like the shape of a butterfly(changing the colour and zoom out), and the outline of a human face(zoom out).
The colour of pouring coffee turn to be red (real world), meaning the blood is bleeding out (in the story).
Voice-over of a girl said thank you, thank you very much at the end of the film.

The first idea comes out: study abroad experience, myself
What is it talk about: Study abroad is a very valuable experience, however, when to leave home you need to accept a new culture, a new environment, and a new lifestyle. You need to be independent, thinking of your life, and protect yourself. Study abroad is not only an experience to make a new friend and travel around the world, is also a chance for yourself to use to be alone, enjoy the time to be alone.
What kind of equipment I used & for what reason:
Camera I: Sony a6000
I used the Sony a6000 as the vision of other people, and close up the image. It can make a different feeling with what did I see and what the screen should be.
Camera II: GoPro session
I used the GoPro session as my vision that I can show to the viewer what I saw and what is in my eyes. It is a wearable camera that it can easily coordinate with my moment which can make my video become more real.
iPad
I used the newest feature, the Screen recording. It is because the definition of video will be more clear than using a camera to film a screen.
PC Condenser Microphone
I am not recording the sound with the video in the same time, so I think this microphone is more suitable for a recording a narration.
To avoid popping and improve the vocal recording quality, used a Dual Layer Filter in front of the microphone.
Build in mic
To record some background noise that the video will become more natural, and sometimes can go use of the sound to coordinate with the music to make a different effect.
Tripod
By using the tripod, what you are filming will not keeping in a vertical line, you can adjust different angle who help to see more thing in a camera.

It is good for filming a moving screen (vertical) in the same level that will not shake the camera.
What Problem I have met and How to solve it:
It is very difficult to film animals. You will not know where they will go in the next sec, you cannot be too close from them that you may scare them. So need to approach them very carefully, otherwise, need to close up the camera lens, which will make the resolution become lower.
It is quite difficult to connect different screen together and do not look odd, so need to give up some shot and film other things to balance the entire video.
It is hard to adjust the music and the narration in the same time. You need to find a right timing to add and to stop the narration.It is because If the music is a high peak and you keep talking, it will be hard for the viewer to listen to you. so, it is a good idea to try to adjust the dB of the music and the narration, try to get a balance.
What thing I want to change, improve or challenge:
If I can get a telephone lens, I would like to use it to film the animals scene again that the resolution of that part will be better. The things I would like to challenge myself is I would like to add a comparison in the video by using the same title but the changing setting. I think the differences can help me or the viewer to know more about which type of me is suitable for me. In this video, I said I am enjoying to be alone, but I may enjoy being in a small group, even a big group. If I can try to film what I am doing when I am joining a group may be a good idea to show who am I. Am I a person enjoying be alone? Or I am the person not good at social so I settled myself to be alone?
