I know you said you won’t watch the show and I respect that- I do love that one of the dancers competing Selena Hamilton, said she was inspired by Britt being on the show🥹I just think of Onye, now Selena, and when Britt went to Debbie Allen’s dance school she mentioned how much of an impact Britt had by being on the show. I think that’s such a beautiful thing and I’m so excited to see more and more black girls in the Latin and ballroom world!!!

I do think that that is amazing and I would love to continue to see more Black girls in ballroom and Latin. I also love that Debbie Allen continues to churn out talented dancers. S/o to her!

Out of curiosity, will you be watching DWTS: The Next Pro? And regardless of whether you are or aren't, what are your thoughts on the concept of the show? I feel like it's going to be like SYTYCD except there's no live voting (since it's all pre-recorded) and the prize is to be a DWTS pro on the main show.

I have absolutely no interest in watching that show. So I won't be watching. I also find it weird that they're doing this when 1) this was done on the main show back in 2009 and that pro that the fans actually voted for lasted one season (Justice for Anna Demidova) and 2) there's literally a whole troupe that you can promote. It's quite literally the reason why they're on the show in the first place.

Someone from the Traitors for sure (maybe Candiace). Probably 2 winter Olympians. I would love to see either Victor Cruz or Rob Gronkowski finally make their way to the show. Rob has done some hosting with Julianne recently, so he seems more plausible. That’s all I have right now.

I meant more like wanting to keep her in the competition longer so there are more dances from her in the season, thus increasing the chances for something to land with the Emmy voters.

Maybe. But it would make sense for someone like Jason. But Dylan and Joseph? She would never get a nomination for a dance from those types. And if you look at the choreography she gave Dylan, it really wasn’t much of anything.

Overhyping her dances won’t get her an Emmy. The show has no control over what gets nominated. The Emmy voters do. Very few pros from DWTS have been nominated for their work with celebrities. Those pros have been Cheryl (Drew’s freestyle), Tony (Stacy’s jive), Louis (I’m assuming this was for Monique’s jive), Julianne (Helio’s mambo), Derek (too many to list), Mark (season 12 with Chelsea), Witney (Alfonso), Artem (the two dances he did with Kaitlyn that were worth a damn), Daniella (the obvious choices for Iman) and shockingly Val and Jenna (it was mostly for the Len tribute but they snuck Xochi’s waltz in there as well). Every single dance on this list was phenomenal and it was completely independent of the judges’ praise or lack of it (Derek and Mark both got ripped apart by the judges for dances that would later go on to be nominated for Emmys)

Who do you prefer between these two participants with similar journeys: Kate Flannery or Barry Williams?

Quick question. What makes their journeys similar? I never thought about it and I’m curious about how you compared those two. As for who I preferred, it’s Barry. But I chose him because Peta is a better pro than Pasha

Also I just realized Andy had to rehearse and do the special while he was still in the competition, so less practice time for him that week. And that's the week he ended up getting eliminated.

While it was beyond time for Andy to leave, that actually doesn’t sit right with me.

Oh so THAT'S why the celebs were on their own for a day during 20th birthday week. And why those winners didn't appear in the special. Yeah they gotta film early. If juniors could film their christmas show in august, so can the main series.

Yeah. They were all hush hush about why they left their celebs for that time period. After yesterday though, it all made sense (s/o to @forevertrueblue for helping me piece that together). Like I said, this is all a result of poor planning

They really do need to do next year's Christmas special early because filming it in the middle of the season didn't give them enough time to properly prepare the routines.

And they were all gone for 6 hours from their partners during the semi finals. It was poor planning all the way around. And that’s pretty consistent with this show. Piss poor planning

Damn, the scalpers are NOT playing with these DWTS tour tickets this year. They ate all of them up in the presale (for dates that were added on because of high demand, mind you) and are of course supercharging for them in resale.

Of course they are. They’ve been doing that with all the concert tickets since things got back on track for touring after COVID shut everything down

ABC does a LOT of these kinds of specials for some reason. They do TWO Disney parks ones every Christmas and a bunch of other random ones as well. And they're all super fluffy with nothing really going on, like you (accurately) said about the DWTS one. I just don't see why they have to make THAT many of them every year.

Not there being discourse with people being mad they called it a "holiday special" and not a "CHRISTMAS special" when it wasn't just Christmas that was included. And also some people are mad about the women in "too revealing" outfits playing the three kings.

There are some things that don’t need your energy. That special is one of them lol. It’s just there to mindlessly watch to get in the holiday spirit and then move on to whatever show is on next.

Emmitt did make a cameo with a video message. But yeah a wider variety of celebs would be good. We only had Scott, Alfonso, Andy, and Reggie perform onstage, plus a few champs from one of the old performances with pros performing with their winning partners. And then some people in the audience and a couple video messages, one was from Chandler idk who else.

If Strictly can get people back for that big Blackpool celebration, DWTS can figure something out for more than just a video message.

I mean we did get Apolo back for the dance battle episode this season! So maybe he can come back for Christmas next year!

Exactly! The Apolo door is definitely opened back up. I think he loves the show, so probably wouldn’t take much convincing. With the special being taped and not live, more would probably be willing to dance again. Maybe dance with someone they wanted to dance with or work with their old pro again.

I'd love if Shawn Johnson came back to perform. It seems like she goes to watch the show in person once every season or two so I wonder if she'd be down.

Yep. People like that seem like they probably would be willing to come back and do a little somethin somethin from time to time.

When do you think they started favoring Daniella? When she started as a pro or somewhere down the line?

That’s a great question and it’s actually gonna be the topic of a future post. Y’all remember when I said I was going to talk about all the male Argentine tangos that were better than Dylan’s? Yeah, I was working on that and then we got the comment about his foxtrot being the best male foxtrot (while Robert who still won the season, had a better foxtrot just a week earlier). So I’m going to address both of those and come back to the comment that Joseph got about him having the best male rumba ever.

What I can tell you right now is I think Daniella came in with people talking about how amazing she was as a dancer and worshiping the ground she walked on. I know this because many people have come in my inbox over the years basically begging me to do the same (I never will do that, they’re all amazing dancers and that’s not what matters for the pros on this show). So it was always there. I think it ramped up after she won with Iman. And don’t think I don’t realize that race, age and desirability (a branch off the race and age pieces) of her partners factor in here as well
