∆ ⎯⎯ 【 don't panic 】
"jia, the temperature is so nice today, don't you think?" miyoung asks her cat, who of course doesn't offer a response. suddenly, a bird flies off of one of the nearby buildings, so unusually low that it makes miyoung jump. she feels movement in the bag on her back, and then suddenly significantly less weight. miyoung is quick to turn around, only to catch jia racing down the sidewalk in the direction the bird flew. "oh, jia!" miyoung calls. "jia please!" jia stops running, at least, but she's still very absorbed in her hunt for the bird. "jia, come here, it flew away! the bird flew away, you won't be able to catch it. you're too small and can't jump nearly high enough."
jiha would love to have a pet, he sure would, but he was already taking care of himself and his grandmother, he doesn’t have the money for any pet. it feels a bit lonely to be in his apartment by himself, but he doesn’t want a roommate, he especially doesn’t want to live with his grandmother, and he doesn’t have the money for a pet, so he’ll just continue feeling lonely in his apartment.
it’s not that he spends that much time in the apartment anyways, he has work, and then when he doesn’t have work he has to take care of his grandma, cook or order her food, help clean the house she lives in. and even when he’s not working or at his grandmother’s place, he’s often outside, either swimming or doing archery, or running like he’s doing now.
he enjoys running, getting around without teleporting. feeling the air on his skin, running by people and animals. and he was running, until he heard someone call his name, and then he stops and looks around, but there’s no familiar face to see. and it continues, he continues hearing his name without seeing any familiar face around. his first thought is maybe it’s someone else’s name, but he doesn’t see anyone react to it, his second thought? he’s grown a new second ability.
what it is, he’s not sure. maybe he can hear when a friend calls his name even though they’re far apart? maybe it’s like some of spider-sense like spiderman. or maybe it’s just that woman who is calling his name. he sighs, no new superpowers today.
he walks over to her, “so how do you know my name?” he asks the unfamiliar face.
jia sits on the sidewalk, looking up at the roof the bird taunting her landed on. she meows loudly. miyoung lets out a sigh of relief. at least she's still now, and she probably doesn't have to worry about her running off and getting lost anymore.
she still approaches carefully out of fear that if she moves too quickly, jia will decide they're playing a game and race off again. while the district isn't that large, there are still plenty of places for a cat to hide, never to be seen again, and frankly, she would be heartbroken without her.
miyoung arrives at jia's side without any trouble, though, and shields her eyes from the sun as she looks up at the bird jia is still meowing at. "miss jia, i think you're out of luck," she informs her.
when a man speaks, she's quick to give him her attention. maybe he would've startled anyone else in her position, but miyoung has a way of feeling when people are around – quite literally. it's rarely a conscious thing, and more just a bonus that comes with the empathy.
she's confused at first. his name...? then, she realizes. "oh, no," she lets out a small, sheepish laugh. "i'm sorry. my cat's name is jia." to prove her point, she bends down and picks jia, who lets out a small grunt in protest, up off the sidewalk. she turns toward the stranger so he can get a good view of the siamese cat. "we like taking walks, but a bird was teasing her today. she jumped out of her backpack and ran after it, so i was calling for her. but everything is fine now." she smiles warmly.
∆ ⎯⎯ 【 fingerprints 】
tracking people across distances by their emotions is odd. for her, every emotion is like a finger print. emotions are complex, so no two instances of sadness, for example, feel exactly alike.
she doesn't really like to track people via their emotions. to some degree, it feels invasive to her. sometimes, there are special circumstances, though, like today. one of her students' emotions were particularly alarming today, as was what she told her in their counseling session.
she sent her home with mental health resources, but apparently she didn't make it home. miyoung gets the personal call from her student's mother, asking her if she knows where she is. she doesn't, unfortunately, but she tells her she'll find her.
so miyoung zones in on the student's emotional fingerprint, and she tracks her and her tumultuous emotions, growing heavier on miyoung's mind and heart the longer she focuses. as she approaches, however, her mood improves a little, bit by bit.
that's a relief, at least – and when miyoung arrives where her students' emotions are the strongest, on a local playground, she sees why. she's sitting on a swing, talking to a man on the swing beside her. part of her is worried for a moment, but she searches the man's emotions for any deception or ill-intent, and doesn't find anything. another relief.
by the time miyoung reveals herself, her student's mood is significantly improved. she smiles politely at the man, before turning to her student, smile still soft, but warming.
"sohee, i got a call from your mother," miyoung says.
sohee smiles sheepishly and close-lipped.
"can we call her to come pick you up? she's worried about you. we all are."
sohee agrees, reluctantly, and miyoung dials her mother, letting her know their location.
"do you still have those names i gave you?" miyoung asks her. she gave her a list of mental health professionals she suggested she look into. miyoung's name is not on the list – she tends to think it's better for her to remain her students' counselor and someone else to be their therapist.
"yes," sohee replies, voice quiet.
"okay, good. thank you."
miyoung takes a seat on the other empty swing beside sohee, making small talk that sohee clearly doesn't want to participate in, but humors miyoung with anyway.
it doesn't take long for her mom to arrive, and miyoung walks sohee to the car and bids her farewell with a smile and, "i'll see you on monday."
once the car drives away, miyoung takes a deep breath, finally letting herself relax. she remembers she's not alone, though, and returns to the swings and the man still seated on one.
"thank you for talking to her," miyoung says. she thinks it's only fair to offer her gratitude. "talking to you improved her mood a lot." she realizes that might be an unusual thing to say out of context, so she adds, "i'm an empath. and her counselor at school."

∆ ⎯⎯ 【 don't panic 】
maybe it's a little strange that she takes her cat on walks, but miyoung doesn't mind. in the worst case, she's gotten a few odd looks, but most of the time, it's parents having to prevent their children from running over and petting jia, her siamese cat.
jia doesn't actually like walking much herself. instead, miyoung purchased one of those backpacks specifically made for a little kitty to sit in while you walk around.
her evening walks with jia are honestly one of her favorite parts of her week. maybe that's a little pathetic, but she enjoys just taking a moment to slow down and enjoy the world around her alongside a quiet companion.
mostly quiet, anyway. sometimes jia meows, and miyoung honestly finds that comforting, somehow.
"jia, the temperature is so nice today, don't you think?" miyoung asks her cat, who of course doesn't offer a response.
suddenly, a bird flies off of one of the nearby buildings, so unusually low that it makes miyoung jump. she feels movement in the bag on her back, and then suddenly significantly less weight. miyoung is quick to turn around, only to catch jia racing down the sidewalk in the direction the bird flew.

hello! (pt 2)
hiii everyone it's carly, @jaeyongdx's mun, back at it again for another intro! this time i have ms miyoung, your local empath and very poised and put together cat lady. i'll once again ramble and offer some plot ideas below the cut! i will just plot with anyone for both muses no matter who likes which intro but feel free to like this if you'd like to plot anyway <3 just in case i can reel some of u in with one muse and not the other hehe. fair warning that suicide is a part of miyoung's bg, though nothing graphic is mentioned anywhere, and i'll always tag and use content warnings accordingly! i don't imagine i'll write about it in too much detail, but you never know, and i always prefer to be safe. here is miyoung's about page, and her playlist as a bonus 💗
