DI’ANGELO  HARRISON    came into the world as a happy kid, his goofy smile evident during his school pictures but that all changed once he was old enough to realize that his mom tended to fall down a lot, though it was always after a heated argument with his father. DEREK HARRISON  was the ideal family man, devoted and caring but behind closed doors it was a completely different story. his mothers lessons ( as his father liked to call them ) become much more frequent, the smallest comment would set him off in the most powerful rage. his mother wasn’t safe and neither was he. 

after the aftermath of his fathers brutality, he would sit down next to his mother curing her wounds and never blaming her, always by her side. the more he leaned towards his mother, the worst thing got for him. his father became enraged and the bruises began to appear on grayson, though no one could believe that the matriarch of the charming family could ever do something so vile, di’angelo spoke out but no one truly believed him and if they did, his father had everyone in his pocket. 

weeks turned into months and months into years and the more that time passed, the more he  changed. More closed off he became and more violet towards some situations. one day coming home, he hears pleading and the commotion of things being thrown. he doesn’t have to speculate what’s going on, the help in the kitchen minds their business, but the worrisome look on their features is evident. he walks right past them and his mother is on the floor of his father study, bloody and lifeless. his father taunting him, his anger gets the best of him and everything just turns black. 

once he regains conciseness, he feels a pair of hands holding him back. his mother is on the floor, barely breathing. he doesn’t realize the amount of blood that’s covering his hands, his hands on the phone but its taken away by his father security. telling him that they needed to play this as a burglary and that’s exactly what happened, they played the grieving wife and son  part quite well. 

f his nightmare wasn’t over because in the back of his mind, he has flashbacks of the incident, his fist repeatedly pounding his fathers face and his fathers taunting prose ; you’re a monster just like I am .  those words echoed in his mind and played on a constant loop, maybe his father wasn’t wrong and grayson would be just like his father if not worse. though his mothers dedication to him was un matched, they remained well respected in the community &. shortly after her mother remarried, at first he was against him but as time passed, he noticed that she was happy &. that’s all that truly mattered. 

after taking ahold of his fathers business, being the heir to it all, he heard about interchange &. Maybe for once he could do something for himself.

             a  soft  laugh  at  the  attempt  made  and  the  song  choice.  it’s  painful,  given  the  soreness  of  her  ribs,  but  it’s  welcomed.  ❝  anybody  ever  tell  you  that  you’d  make  a  decent  donkey?  he’s  always  been  my  favourite  character.  ❞  a  teasing  brow  before  she  cocks  her  head,  ❝  d’you  make  waffles,  too?  because  now  i  want  some  and,  as  winner  of  the  round,  i  propose  we  relocate  our  competition  so  we  can  make  some.  ❞  keyword  being  we,  because  reese  often  took  her  independence  much  too  far.  beginning  the  trek,  she  clasps  her  hands  behind  her  back,  ❝  what  should  be  my  word?  ❞

               ❝      you know what,       I tried      you     have to      at least      give me points      for that        but I think the      star       of the      first movie      was dragon,      I mean     that girl         definitely has       game . ❞       he indulged      her a       little more,      it was somewhat       refreshing spending      time with       the brunette. ❝      you know     what,    I will definitely       take you up        on that,       I’m much better      in the kitchen      than I am      at singing. ❞         he stands up      &.      makes his way      to the kitchen,     starting to     get     the ingredients        for the waffles         ❝ mmm ——-     how about      love ? ❞      there were a      plethora    of      songs       written     about love,     so      why not ?      ❝ by the way,      shall we do        chocolate or       blueberry waffles ?  ❞

she hummed as she could smell the onions cooking and then watched him. “i love helping so this is great.” she said and then washed her hands before she  even started to help him. she grabbed the knife and tomatoes and started cutting them into slices. “that sounds delicious and i really can’t wait to eat now.” she said and smiled. “i’m yovani by the way.” she introduced herself.

it was warming      for him to have        someone with him,       he wasn’t keen     to being rude         to people. ❝       that is the       first time,        I heard this ever       since walking inside       this house,        it’s refreshing . ❞       he added as      he cracked a couple      of eggs in        the skillet,      bringing it down      to a simmer       so that it could       cook slowly while       the brunette,       finished slicing        the tomatoes. ❝     well, I hope       you like it . ❞        he added with a       small smile       &.     as she finished      slicing the      tomatoes. ❝       di’angelo harrison,       pleasure.  ❞

“not anymore?” he can’t help but laugh again, a shake of his head as he thumbed his bottom lip, gold rings adorning his fingers, “don’t make me feel ancient. i can still go to a party every once in a while, can’t i?” he asks as if wanting a real answer but reid was easy, he would go with the flow until the flow wouldn’t go, watch all the chaos and be there to pick up the pieces. he knew his own limitations unlike some. “tips? expect the unexpected. you never know who’s going to walk through the doors and be careful who you jog with, they might turn out to be mentally unstable,” all wise words.

a chuckle escapes      past his brims      as he looks over        at his friend     ❝ hey ,       by all means but        liquor      &.       me don’t mix        that well because       it usually leads       to bad choices       &.      I have had      a       handful of those. ❞        slipping on the jordan’s          on his feet,       finishing tying        the laces     ❝      I just invited       my roommate         to come &.       jog with me.       if I go missing,      you know who        my killer was. ❞      he adds      &.        follows with        a small chuckle        escapes his brims.      ❝      I was thinking           about going to      grab a       few drinks,      what do      you say ? ❞     he inquired      with a tilt       of his head.

                               like  a rather   charming smile   formed the blonde’s features , words flying over her head  &  not for a moment taking them in offense .  if anything , he was a   b r o t h e r   she never had , the one that would  always  protect her when her father wasn’t around to do the same  &   someone she  fully  trusted .  at the mention of his mother’s annual sundays , alana felt a small   ping of homesickness   at the very memory of new york  &  their families together .  while her schedule was usually filled up so that she  rarely  thought about how she missed her life back in the city , in times like these , she couldn’t even hide it . however , the subject was soon dropped  &  turned in another direction alana wasn’t particularly keen of , nose   s c r u n c h i n g   as angelo called her out for her lies .  he was right , she could’ve fooled  almost  everyone else but him .  ❞  no …  ❞   her response was weak  &  she knew it .  honestly , the fact she was having something with mariano spreading so fast back home made her   worried   for many reasons , along with the fact with  h o w   it even happened when they were thousand of miles away .   ❞  trouble ?  trouble how ?  ❞  alana was evidently confused , knowing   n o t h i n g   about the subject despite the fact she has known him for a while now .   ❞  i know he’s no saint , but … a bad person ?   sure , he’s ego is through the roof but …. that doesn’t make him a bad person ,  ❞   she continued , brows furrowing together in more confusion .  ❞  what do you mean by  bad people  ?  what are you not telling me ?  ❞

                    the girls     were the closest      that he had       to sisters,     he had been      an only child      &.           following them around       watching them     cause chaos      truly was       a pleasure,      he saw a      goodness       in them,      that he no      longer       POSSESSED  .   sunday dinner     was reserved     for       their families,        through the        older he grew,          his watch      on the girls        became limited.        his father departure        caused him to         follow       as ceo.       watching      the blonde       features      twist at his      comment,        he gave her        a small smile.     ❝       look,       I’m not       here to reprimand      you      or       anything            but I just          want you         to be careful.  ❞       he added,      a more       genuine smile       now etched         on umber features.         her inquiry       causes       a sigh to      escape       his brims    ❝      do you      know what        the madirgals       are known        for back        in colombia ? ❞       he wasn’t aware      of their history         until a few months       ago. ❝        his grandfather      was one of      the biggest capo       leaders  in   colombia,     I mean the       amount of people         that he murdered,       I possibly couldn’t     even think      of the number. ❞          he takes a pause       &.     shakes his head        in the process. ❝        &.          from        what people         whisper of his business      in miami,       he is just       as ruthless        as his grandfather,        don’t let his father’s      political status         fool you,       that family is        dangerous      &.        a family      you don’t want      to ever          cross lana,      he’s a murder        just like       the rest       of his family . ❞

she frowned at his words. it wasn’t like he was the first person to tell her as much. she had a sweet nature that left her tripping over herself to help others, maybe because she always wished someone would have done so for her, maybe because her mother always told her that it was her job to help. either way she had a hard time accepting that she should just stop doing something that’s as integral to her as breathing. “ ice cream ? ” she perked up, “ heck yes i wanna come. are you payin’ ? ‘cause i already spent my money for this week and i can call my mama and ask for more but she’s gonna ask what i spent it on and if i tell her that i was buyin’ gifts for a sad girls she’s not gonna believe me. ”

he knew       what it was like      to want to        do good ,      to want to      be there for        everyone.     he had done      that for so      many years,     he was his      mothers anchor.       standing by       her side through      everything.      the thing about       giving your all     to everyone is       that sometimes       you forgot to take        care of yourself.      her inquiry        causes a nod        of his head       ❝ yeah,       I saw this      ice cream joint      about        fifteen minutes         from here . ❞      a small chuckle      escapes his brims      as he looks           at noah ❝       what kind        of man       would I be if      i invited you      out for       ice cream         &.      then made       you pay,      I thought you       knew me      better     than that . ❞

“i wouldn’t hold my breath, seems like everyone here’s a little crazy, could be the fact that most of them are fucked up. not me though, i’m perfect,” with just the right side of being a cunt but no one needs to know that unless they cross or she’s just annoyed at them. “i’m only nice to you because we live together, imagine if we aren’t, i would fuck with your head so much,” she said as her lips widen but she didn’t even glance up as she broke the yolk. silver wanted to laugh at his words, she was far from kind, the only person who ever knew her being genuinely nice was her sister. “i’m an open book,” not, “why do you need to know me beyond us being roommates unless you want to know me personally.”

Yovani had just woken up and decided that she wanted to make breakfast that morning. She was craving something that was fresh and homemade, not something fried in grease and probably had been sitting under a heat lamp for almost a hour. Vani walked down to the kitchen in her pajamas and smelt  onions she then saw the man in the kitchen. “Oh hi goodmorning, yes. Mind if I help or do you work better alone?” She asked chuckling softly.

he smiles     as she greeted     him back      &.      he allowed       the temperature,        letting the        onions sauté         on low heat.       turning back      to the femme       before him ❝       I don’t mind      the help at        all actually . ❞     he adds       on with a      small smile         on his brims.       grabbing      the other knife         from      the drawer ,       he begins to       sharpen it, grabbing       the bamboo       cutting boards       &.       sliding it       her way . ❝        cut the tomatoes       in slices        because      I’m going to      grill them     with some      olive oil,         salt       &.       pepper . ❞

“Yeah, I guess. What are you making?” He asked curiously, taking a seat on the stool near by. “I am going to bake something, if you want dessert. I make a mean lemon meringue pie, but I can also make a nice one, if you want. I’m Lloyd, by the way.”

he had been caught but if there was one person that it was not all bad to be spied on by then it was most certainly reid. there was not a bad bone in his body even if there were many overly passive ones, “i was just taking inventory of the new arrivals,” he joked, “apologies if i’m disappointing but it’s definitely not me who does welcome parties… there are some around here that love making that their special honour,” although he fears to go too far into the cavalry of greetings one seems to find when they sign up here.

             she  was  of  the  same  belief,  that  humans  were  complex,  contradictory,  and  equally  capable  of  being  good  and  bad,  but  that  wasn’t  quite  what  she  meant  by  him  being  one  of  the  good  ones  &  she  doesn’t  bother  clarifying.  she  hums,  ❝  what’s  your  definition  of  bad  shit,  though?  i  know  that  tends  to  vary  person  to  person  given  moral  compasses  and  whatever,  so  color  me  curious.  ❞  the  male  seems  to  be  pulling  all  sorts  of  unexpected  reactions  from  the  raven  and  she  offers  a  small  shake  of  her  head,  ❝  whatever  you  choose  to  believe  in  is  neither  corny  or  dumb.  ❞  looking  down  at  her  feet,  she  adds,  ❝  part  of  me  wishes  it  were  easy  for  me  to  believe  in  that  same  higher  power,  but  i’m  too  angry.  ❞  his  confession  earns  the  first  real  smile,  ❝  oh.  wasn’t  expectin’  you  to  be  so  open,  but  now  i  feel  kinda  honored  that  you’re  willing  to  share  with  me,  so  thanks  —  and  sorry  i’m  not  offering  to  help;  i  don’t  care  much  for  bein’  in  the  kitchen.  ❞  she  had  the  skills,  of  course.  her  auntie’s  work  schedule  often  forced  skye  to  take  care  of,  and  feed,  herself,  but  it’s  not  an  act  that  brings  her  any  sort  of  satisfaction.  in  fact,  it  only  ever  reminds  her  just  how  much  of  her  life  has  been  spent  alone.

him trying       to tip toe        around the question       didn’t really work,        usually when         he said things         like this,        people usually       took what       he said       &.        left it          at that          but she didn’t.           brims pressed together        as her other         inquiry causes          a small smile         on his brims.       grabbing both plates,        his slides the plate         her way along         with the utensils       &.        then proceeds       to do the       same for him .        ❝ I guess I’ve         hurt people,       most of them unintentionally        but the ones            that I did hurt,        I did it because        I wanted to         &.       there is always        an excuse          that you tell yourself            to make yourself          feel better but         it’s a lie . ❞              he’s vague with        the answer,         he doesn’t give       too much          because         that’s not             who he is           anymore       or           that’s what he         tries to       remind himself. ❝       to me,          it isn’t        but           some people           don’t think         the       same way,        kindness might be overrated       &.       whatever makes       you          feel as if you        can’t believe in      people good        Intentions,       then maybe       that’s why           we’re standing here . ❞        he didn’t think       things just happened        out of coincidence.              he gives her a       gentle smile ,     digging into        his breakfast .         though hearing        that she was too angry,        his hand       hovers          over hers       giving it a        light squeeze           ❝ you won’t feel           that’s way forever,        take it from me. ❞         &.        even though            she didn’t know         the tragedies      of his past,          if he       could find          someway         of coping,       he was sure       she could too.       ❝ no worries,       my mom wasn’t          much of a cook,           after she married       my dad he       spoiled her with all       the materialistic.         she never had         to lift a finger . ❞        taking a sip        of the chai       that had been        next to his food,      he turns        to her       ❝ so,      up to      your liking       or       is it         missing something ?     ❞

“cheeky is a word for it.” not one mel would have chosen but that was mainly because it wasn’t a word she used back in seattle or ever really heard in conversation before meeting a shit ton of people from london once she joined the program. nodding, she took a few more moments to appreciate the eggs florentine, it did look delicious though she had to wonder what the difference between a florentine and an eggs benedict was. they looked extremely similar. “well, thanks with the up-most respect.” mel replied with a smile, sliding one of the plates towards themself. “i’ve never really enjoyed pictures of myself but i did hear recently something about sunsets. you know how people always say a picture doesn’t do it justice? it’s the same for people. even if you look good in pictures, you look even better in real life.” mel wasn’t sure why she liked that idea so much.  

di’angelo had      learned that       he couldn’t       always say       the first thing         that popped         into his head.      though her question       did throw him       for a loop,       people knew      not to ask       of things.        his father       departure wasn’t      something he cared       for but most      likely something        that clouded        his mind.       ❝ my apologies . ❞        as he finished          with his       own dish,        sprinkling some          red paper flakes on top.          grabbing        a mug         he removed         the thermo        from the           other side of         the kitchen island,        pouring himself        some chai.         closing the lid         once again       &.         turning back        to the          brunette        as she spoke,         his attention        solely on her.        ❝ that’s        a different way of thinking it        ——       but I feel        sometimes        pictures capture things that        the human       eye doesn’t,        I guess that’s        why I chose photography.      ❞        he digs into        the eggs        &.        hums as he        savors        the flavor.         ❝       what’s       your     major ? ❞
