I dare you to flirt with my muse.
ooc; I DONT EVEN CARE IF WE’VE NEVER INTERACTED BEFORE PLS DO THIS
"Finally, a moment of rest..”
With a tired smile and a cup of tea. Sometimes a girl has to treat herself.

Fortunately, there was a battlefield free for use rather close to the center itself, where Ash took his place on one side of the arena. “Rosa? I want you to sit with Dawn and watch this battle. Bertha’s one of the strongest trainers around, so this match is gonna get really intense. Pay close attention, alright?”
~You’ve got it, Ash!~ The pokemon chimed telepathically, vaulting off his shoulder before rushing to join the coordinator standing beside the field. Round, ruby eyes watched the trainers intently.
“Alright, Glalie! I choose you!” Ash chose his first pokemon without heistation, lobbing the pokeball forward. The spherical device popped open, a bright light taking the form of the Face pokemon. It let out a cry of its name, ready for battle.
Unlike Ash, Bertha did not make any sudden decisions even when he chose. Had this been a real battle within the league’s rules, she would’ve been forced to choose within ten seconds, or face penalty. Thankfully here, she had all the time in the world. What was the sense of rushing?
A wry smile bloomed on her lips as her professional experience seeped in; standing straight and hands no longer clasped behind her back. A certain fire flickered in earthen coloured eyes as she scanned the battlefield; gaze drifting around. The field was small, but adequate to accommodate Pokémon of most, if not all sizes. The Pokémon center was off limits and out of the battlefield area.
But not the nearby plant life. This was Celadon after all; and the city was rife with blooming trees of all ages. She briefly closed her eyes, nodding to herself. The unspoken lesson here was that she hoped Ash got a good look of his surroundings before making his seemingly impulsive choice.
"Glalie? My, what an interesting choice. I hope you don’t think you’ve won already, my dear. Let’s see just how strong you’ve gotten --” she pulled a Pokéball free, tossing it forward. It opened revealing..
“GOLEM!”
The Megaton Pokémon landed with surprising grace for it’s type; fangs briefly bared before it remained stoically silent. Already this battle was shaping up to be something interesting and unusual. Bertha clearly had a type disadvantage, and this was a Pokémon Ash only seen in action once -- removing Team Rocket’s hideous machinery.
Her smirk remained; almost taunting. Her Pokémon were well trained enough and bond so strong that she need not speak a single command for them to know what she wanted. It was a similar trick she pulled off in their last battle. Clearly, the lack of action shows she was letting Ash go first -- perhaps a mistake? Or perhaps a simple defensive tactic? Time would only tell.
please don't be intimidated by me, I'm a fucking dork

Bertha’s wardrobe isn’t anything fanciful, but she’s definitely stylish. Often decked in wooly scarves, thick coats and modest dresses, with varying shades of earthly colours. In summer she takes a more lighter approach with sundresses or even simple blouse, slacks and boots.
She isn’t one for jewelry, but her ears are pierced and she has once before worn a bracelet or two with precious metals that she inherited or had been gifted to. She has a new necklaces and rings as well; but rarely wears them, only for the best occasion.
For the most formal occasions (ball, parties, etc) she often sticks to very dark brown/all black; preferring to wear dresses over suits. In her younger years, it was quite the opposite; often in overalls or anything practical. How times have changed.

|| ★ - Thank goodness that powerful tongue was able to lift something thrice its owner’s size. The Greninja was a big frog, meaning that lifting a nice old lady was no problem. Once her feet was on dry land, the Pokémon let go of her, then knelt before her, letting out satisfied croaking sounds.
He was glad she was alright. That mire was a real danger for those who weren’t familiar with it. With his index finger, Toshiaki wrote something in front of him, being careful with the grammar and such.- ★ ||
You fine?
Her previous caution seems to have flown out the window when the frog-like Pokémon didn’t immediately attack her, and cemented that it was indeed harmless as it knelt and wrote. That would suggest that it had been in contact with humans before, given the language. She visibly relaxed.
“Oh, yes -- quite. No matter how many times one traverses dangerous places, it doesn’t get that much easier. Thank you again, for that.”
Bertha did not find it too odd she was conversing with a Pokémon. Such things were common practices for trainers to strengthen their team’s bond. She cleared her throat, eyes glancing up ever so often as if she expected the Pokémon’s trainer to come any moment now.
“Do you have a name? Mine is Bertha.”
[ Rockin’ and Rollin! ]
“See you then!”
The next few days went by without incident, with Ash, Pikachu, and Dawn taking their time to enjoy Celadon’s sights and landmarks. Of course, with a match with an Elite on the horizon, Ash hadn’t slacked off in his training, either! Multiple rounds of training with Dawn had transpired, specifically against her Mamoswine.
Soon enough, Ash had been contacted by the elder trainer. He was quick to rush outside, barely remembering to sling his backpack over his shoulders. Pikachu stood atop Ash’s shoulder, as did Rosa on his opposite. The traing himself grinned, hands placed on his hips. “Alright. You ready, guys? She oughta be here any minute now!”
“Remember to keep a cool head, Ash. I know you’re strong, but you know who you’re battling!” Dawn pointed out, standing behind him with her arms folded behind her back, accompanied by Empoleon. Despite her caution though, Dawn was easily just as excited, lightly bouncing on her heels as she awaited the veteran from her home region.
At the Pokémon centre, Bertha made sure to double check everything before heading out to greet Ash and his friends. Her Pokémon were well-fed, recently trained and perfectly fit and healthy, as so did the elder feel as well. She was unsure what sort of team the promising Pokémon Master would use against her, and memory served to inform her of variety. She prepared for the worst; in any case.
Using the same tactic twice wouldn’t work out well, as she was sure that Ash would’ve remembered her Hippowdon’s old Dig and Iron Head combo. She inwardly smiled -- it would become quickly apparent that you can teach an old Pokémon new tricks.
Dusting down her white wooly coat, she finally stepped outside of the centre.
Sure enough; there he was, with his ever trusted Pokémon by his shoulder side. Bertha couldn’t help a smile bloom on her face -- it reminded her of the old habits her Gliscor still did today; draping around her even though the fanged scorpion was a tad bit too big to be doing such things now.
“Ash!” she greeted heartily, approaching him. Her smile and gaze turned towards his friends. "And Dawn, too. My, dear girl -- it has been far too long.” Her attention flicked briefly to Empoleon.
{ indeed, far too long. }
"It is a pleasure to meet you both once again, and I was reminded just how cute the two of you looked traveling together, aha!” Old habits never die.
“Now.” she said; in a tone that flipped from friendly to serious. “I do believe we have a lesson -- a rematch, if you will. It won’t be a standard battle, of course. I was thinking a one versus one, challenger chooses first. Would that be acceptable?”
So she would quickly figure it out, and Steven’s smiling to himself in his immediate demeanor change to the elder. It was a shift; A change to his usual gentlemanly exterior out of respect for his inherited name. ( She was so familiar, too– He’s heard about this woman before. )
—- ‘ YES, I will, Bertha. It was a simple mistake on my part, really. Just my travels ! I won’t be here for long, simply because I didn’t want to burden my dearest friend with the title of Champion again in my absence– But I really do enjoy Sinnoh. ‘
A smile graced her lips as her gaze softened on the younger male. While she was not in a position to really comment on it; she felt herself thinking how much and how well he had grown. Bertha likened herself to be a good judge of character { though it wasn’t unheard of for her to be wrong } and reckoned he was just as powerful as the Stone senior.
“It’s a shame you are not staying for long, then. I’m sure if your friend is as good and dear as you say; then he will most likely understand. Though you’d know him better than I, aha!”
Her eyes twinkled with warmth;
“What brings you to Sinnoh? Perhaps nothing too overly important that I couldn’t snatch you for a cup of tea, hm?”
Make a choking motion. “Why if you weren’t my auntie I would…ARGH!” hand are kept at his sides now. He begins pacing. “Auntie, talk to your other nephew because he is pissing me off!”
[♣] "Matthew, dearie, if you can hear this, please sing louder. I can only assume Matt has been a bad kid again. Threatening to choke his poor old aunt! How could you DO such a thing?”
{ she was milking this for all it was worth---- }
“For the love of Arceus, Matthew Delrose———!!”
He screams to the top of his lings. Yes he was in public. “Stop singing the Ghostbusters theme!”
[♣] "Keep your voice down, lad! Honestly, you scream like a banshee.”
.. .. .... ...
“.. but I aint afraid of no ghost.”
|| ★ - Normally, Toshiaki would just remain hidden after causing noise, and watch from afar, but the woman didn’t seem to be well prepared for that enviroment at all. Ignoring his main action, the Greninja decided to follow once again, only to face such perilous situation. The stick she was using to help was lost, leaving her to fall on the tricky land.
Quickly, the blue frog leaped from the tree and shot his tongue at her direction, wrapping it around her waist afterwards. The next action was pull her away from the trap. He didn’t care, at least another person was safe under his watch. - ★ ||
[♣] Bertha’s instincts were to reach into the pocket of her coat and summon any one of her Pokémon -- each were capable of getting her out of a bad situation, from wild, territorial ‘mons to tricky trapfalls like the one she tripped.
She needn’t have bothered.
It happened suddenly; she felt weightless and for a moment she wondered if she was about to plunge into the murky depths. But that never came, in fact she was being pulled away from it. A soft ‘Oh’ escaped her, following the tongue to it’s owner. A certainly unusual Pokémon, and she did not immediately recognize what it was. It didn’t matter -- it had saved her.
{ Still, it was an unknown ‘mon to her and so she was extremely cautious. For all she knew, it could have saved her to potentially snack on her. }
“Oh -- well. Thank you. I think this -- yes, I’m on much more stable ground now. It’s safe to let go.”
—— ‘ AH– Yes I can. It’s going to take a lot more to get me badly injured like that. ‘
It’s true; He’s been in way worse accidents before, and falling into a simple ditch by accident won’t do him much harm at all.
( The life of a miner does a body good. )
[♣] After scrutinizing him; eyes narrowed in faux suspicion, she gave a single nod and released him, moving to clasp her hands behind her back. It became apparent in her inspection that this was no ordinary trainer she had just ‘rescued’ from a ditch.
“That’s good. Though I implore you to be more careful, Mr. Stone. What brings you here, in any case?”
{ it was a bit of a gamble -- surely, unmistakably, this was Joseph’s lad. }
