Getting the machine into a state where it will give us worthwhile results has been one of the longest and most frustrating endeavours of my life; what with my horrendous sleeping pattern; the physical isolation of the lab itself (being in the bottom corner of the building); and the ambient sense of hopelessness that accompanies my depression (which, to be honest, probably contributes to my not wanting to leave the house until noon). But I tell you what - watching the lilac-pink glowing plasma shoot through our discharge tube really shows me how beautiful chemistry can be, and helps me feel like I’m finally making some progress!
