Met my uncle (and godfather) Quito at the Memoriale ACTe for lunch. He was so charming and kind and told me stories I’d missed about my family, especially my my grandmother’s funeral, which I’d missed. He then whipped out the original copy of #MarthaJeanClaude’s vynil #CancionesDeHaiti that he saved before my mom had the chance to throw it away. This is the copy I had during childhood. Marie Galante, you were a trip. We met Death today. She served us spiced rum and listened to Ray Charles’ greatest hits. She sent us off to the cliffs with stray street dogs for guardian angels. We named one Coco. When we tried to work our way too far into the cliffs, Coco stood in my way and bit at my wrists so I couldn’t grab hold of rocks. We met Death today. She was tall, fat and gorgeous. She had everyone’s number... but she didn’t have wifi. Her name was Brigitte and it wasn’t our day to die. Just a good day to drink rum and remember to live well.

Our live on later with @jools.holland.official is up on the BBC website (and this page’s profile)! I was totally channeling #SisterRosettaTharpe and Jools picked up on it immediately. Interview and two more songs (Tolalito and Lè Ma Monte Chwal Mwen) to be broadcast on the Sunday night program. This was scary as hell. But really worth it. Thank you to my precious PR angels Partisan PR, Cool Badge and @jennyadlington for getting us all the way there and our label @noformatrecords for the support!

Day 3. Last show in Roma. We had a great time. Are great food. But we were A little less concerned with pictures. Despite Mother’s Day and a historically important football game, the folks who did turn out (Haitians!) were extra and danced all night. Thank you for the food and the feels Italia and thank you for all the hard work @johaffr Mauro and Anto from @afrodisia_ita ! We’ll be back...
Day 2. Was eventful! Visited Venice in under 2 hours just before soundcheck, thanks to @johaffr who insisted on taking what she calls “a casual pose” (it’s been really nice to have a bit of Haiti by my side as our local tour manager. I feel safe having her around when we realized we weren’t going to be served dinner on time to make it to the show. I hurried back to the venue to shower (broken!) and get ready and when joh asked for more time so I could put on my shoes, she was told - “she can sing barefoot”. Bah well! It was a treat to perform at the time of my own convenience for an audience more than deserving of our very best on stage) #NotAllPeopleAreNice #GratefulForTheFolksIKeepClose #MayMySongsConjureJustice (at Piazza San Marco Venezia)

#JusticePourNaomi En ce jour d’abolition de l’esclavage en France (10 mai), j’ai du mal à entendre que l’esclavage était « il y a si longtemps ». Il reste encore des séquelles et des traces qui construisent des mentalités. On sait aujourd’hui qu’une femme est morte avec le SAMU en train de lui infliger des micro-aggressions. Un SAMU qui n’a pas cru ses douleurs, à ses cris, à son appel aux soins médicaux qui lui sont dus. Ce n’était pas de la négligence, ce n’est même une tragédie - ça arrive trop souvent. Je me demande quand est-ce que mon corps aura autant de valeur que celui d’une autre. Je me demande, si un jour, si j’ai le malheur de me trouver malade, on décidera que je mérite de mourir tout en se moquant de ma souffrance.

London throwback! What a nutty Friday the 13th during Mercury-inA-Retrograde we had. Got on the only AM Eurostar to LDN. Recorded a song on BBC4’s “Loose Ends”, ate a little of the city before soundcheck at @richmixlondon where we shared the stage with lovely talented @kndemusic and got free Haitian treats from @kafe1788 . Was touched to see old friends and a nice chunk of London’s Haitian community turn up to the CD release party! If you have any pics of us three on stage please send over! Great afternoon spent at the Fnac Forum. I came out shocked at the amount of folks who came out. People suffered through my crappy jokes to here a few songs and get some autographs and I got offered to maybe sing behind bars... (as in prison!). For some mysterious reason, the amp they rented was dying But everyone turned out great. #MercuryInRetrogradeIsAlmostOver.
