no! the whole “futch scale” started as a joke, and then people actually started believing it. butch and femme are separate lesbian identities with rich and complex meanings within our community. they are not solely an aesthetic or a scale. you are either butch, femme, or neither

once when i was at my teaching job a mom brought her kid on the 1st day and on the 2nd day he came in with a new woman and i thought. Please god and the woman smiled and said "hi im his other mom!" and i wanted to yell so loud bc it was around this time i had figured out i was a lesbian so i wanted to. ask them so many lesbian questions

I'm not sure if I'm butch?? Like i have short hair and wear more masculine things and wanna be more butch but I have a very femine face and??? Also my mom said that girls I'd like to date would want more femine people??? -a confused lesbian

firstly butch is much more than just your appearance. it’s more than just “looking masculine”. it’s tied into how you feel about womanhood, how you feel about other women, your roles in relationships, etc etc. there is no “right” way to look or be butch. essentially, if you want to be a butch lesbian, then congrats, you are! also please don’t listen to your mom! you’ll find the right girl for you, regardless of how you look or identify

one time i went on a hiking date with my then-gf (i'm one of those camping butches) and we were sitting on a log being all snuggly and gross and then a couple of women came by and we split up acting like casual just-friends, but when the two women thought they were out of our sight they started holding hands and me n my gf were like !!! same
