Forgive me, but I'm about to trauma dump quite a bit here.
So, for quite a while, I've been trying to come up with ideas for comics that utilize the fact that it is Summer vacation. I mean, what should I do with that? Should they go out? Where should they go? Should they go to a water park? Should they have a picnic? Should they go camping? What jokes could I even make with these situations?
Anyway, last month made one year since my father died, and 4 and a half years since my Mother passed. I've been dealing with that and processing my feelings about my childhood.
I'm not gonna beat around the bush: My parents were emotionally abusive.
I look back on a lot of things they did to me and realized I didn't deserve it. They didn't really know how to raise me, and instead of trying to figure it out, they stuck with the same old methods and blamed me when it didn't work.
I've recently been replaying old PS2 games I used to play, or wanted to play, as a kid. It brought back good memories, but that also made it worse because I realized my best memories as a kid were of sitting on my ass watching TV and playing video games. My best memories should be of my parents, but it isn't.
My childhood memories of them were of them watching TV in their room and complaining about work. When we hung out, we always did what they wanted to do, never really caring enough to join me in any of my hobbies.
More often than not, I was alone.
I've said this before, but Penny and Judge are both based on me. Penny is the childhood I wish I had, while Judge is the parent I know I could be.
After processing all of that stuff about my childhood, the idea for this comic popped into my head, and I realized this was all that was needed. This is all Penny and Judge really need to spend their Summer vacation. And this was what I wanted when I was a kid.
That's it… This was all I wanted.
