“So, let's see... In the end, according to careful calculations, all of that does, in fact, make you a jerk! ...Does that answer your question?”

Miyuki laughs. “Nah? As in ‘Nah bro. It’s cool.‘ That’s an awesome name” he says happily. “Pleasure to meet you, Nah” he says. As she motions to move up he then realizes where he is. “Right. Hmm. What to order? What’s that you’re having? Is it a smoothie?” he asks curiously.
“I may just get what you have. And possibly a roast beef sandwich as well” he says as he moves up in the line once more. There was still one person ahead of him so he waits with the girl. “Your mother should host another one of those parties. It was quite fun” he says. “This time I’ll make sure we help clean up as well” he adds.
She sighs and almost tells him, “Nah, bro,” but stops on the hunch that it would only amuse him more. She couldn’t risk encouraging this extensively tiresome reuse of humor. “It’s certainly unique, yeah.” Flashbacks to start-of-the-school-year roll calls almost make her cringe. Best not to tell him about those either, she thinks.
“This? It’s a smoothie, yes! Nutty mango kale. ...It’s an adventurous flavor, but, sometimes, you have to forgo the classics.” Should she—“Want to try it?” It couldn’t hurt. –No, well, it could, but it was okay. This thought is reaffirmed when he brings up the party again.
“I don’t think she was entirely aware she was hosting it. But she’ll probably still agree to another.” A grimace. “Thank you in advance for your guestly manners.”

Letting herself get dragged by Nah, Lucina looked around the booth, eyes widening a bit. The booth itself was adorned with rows and rows of bottles with the prizes hung by the ceiling. She took a glance at the rules.
Knock down seven - win a small prize
Knock down twelve - win a medium prize
Knock down twenty - win a large prize!
“I suppose it does seem easy enough.” Lucina responded. “Do you want to go first Nah?”
“Sure, I’ll take a shot at it!” Nah stepped up to the booth with a wide smile, violet eyes shining as she skimmed over the wonderfully fluffy plushies garnishing the booth’s interior. The little ones were adorable! She’d happily take one of those. But, if she could get far enough into it—then maybe she could help Lucina out with one of her choosing!
“Okay—here goes nothing!”
She paid up, was handed the corks, and picked up the makeshift cork gun gingerly. An mild flash of irritation struck her—wasn’t this gun too big?—but she quickly took aim and—
A full round of increasingly frantic cork shots later, she had hit a whopping total of three bottles.
“Wha-- …” Fuming, she stepped back, words stringing together beneath her breath.
She took a deep breath and turned to Lucina with a recomposed smile. “I guess I couldn’t do it… your turn! Win this one for us, Lucina!”
owxin:
“W-What are you—” Oh shit. “Nah, I—” Oh shit. “I need those for— AHHH. AHA, AHA, AHAHA.” He’s crying. But then he’s laughing. It tickles but it hurts. Still, down he goes, tears pricking at the corner of his eyes, breath coming out in short gasps, nerves on end.
And then she releases. His ears feel like they’ve been lit on fire, that’s how bad they hurt. But he swallows his hoarse cries, a lump in his throat, cold digits brushing against the hot skin of his earlobe.
Well, I mean, he deserved it.
“No I— I’ll keep my promise. Just don’t do that again.”
She does feel a twinge of guilt for bringing the “heroic” Owain down to her level, so to speak, but at the confirmation of his promise to be kept, the remembrance is enough to douse it out. She sighs and crosses her arms, looking down at the corpse of camera laid out bare on the table.
How exactly did he manage to—she doesn’t want to think about it. She’s not going to think about it. She’s blocking out the horrifying images by pinching the bridge of her nose.
At least the memory card is intact. Maybe those final few seconds were captured…
“Owain, we need to make sure this never happens again.”
coolestcatcher:
Miyuki scoffs and rolls his eyes at her comment. “Nah, Nah. You’re lucky to meet such an awesome person like me. If anything I’m awesome for bringing you enjoyment. So you’re very welcome” he says with a wide cheeky grin.
She stares at him evenly, unyielding. “Tell me, Miyuki—how exactly have you brought me enjoyment…?”
She’s not mad! At least he thinks. But she doesn’t look mad— well, scratch that. Nah doesn’t really know how to express herself all that well from what he’s seen. Granted he could be wrong as there is a chance that she’s really good at hiding her emotions, and is patiently waiting for the perfect chance to uppercut him.
But she wouldn’t do that, would she?
… NAH.
“For a second there I thought you’d be really upset with me,” he laughs it off as he merrily joins her side. Something inside of him is telling him there’s something wrong, but he chooses to ignore it.
“Oh, Owain!” Oh, Owain. “You’ve always had the silliest notions, Owain!” Oh, Owain. “The silliest notions.” Oh, Owain…
“How could I possibly—“ She reached up at this point, a faint smile still painting her lips, “—be upset—“ It was a bit of a struggle, but she reached his ear and her fingers began to find a grip. “—that you—“ At this, her voice shook a bit, taking on a tremor that even she wasn’t familiar with. “—broke—“ Death Grib established. Commencing pulling. “—my—“ Down her grip went. “—prized—“ No. Mercy. “—camera…?”
Once she was certain he’d received a reasonable dose of ear pulling, she released him, much like she would a rock on a slingshot.
She took a deep breath and exhaled. “Wow, I’m feeling much better! How about you, Owain? Hope you’re not thinking about retracting that offer you made to replace it~!”
Lucina let out a small chuckle. She was glad to see her small friend happy.
“All right, where to first?” Lucina asked. Secretly, she was hoping to win a plushie or two. They were pretty cute you know!
“Hm~.” Nah hummed it over thoughtfully, peering out at the different booths that had been set up. With the bustle of contented people and the lanterns out bright against the dark sky, the atmosphere certainly was festive!
But a sound caught Nah’s attention. She spun on her heels suddenly, pulling at Lucina. “That one. That one! The cork gun game! Looks pretty easy, right? Yeah, Lucina?”
Miyuki chuckles. “Hey I believe your mother knows one of us. It wasn’t me but it had to be someone. I doubt we would got to a strange unfamiliar household, kid. Anyways thanks for letting us stay and sorry we didn’t clean much before we left” he says before chuckling.
“By the way I dont think we properly introduced ourselves. I’m Miyuki Kazuya but you can just call me Miyuki. What’s your name, kid?” he asks her.
Miyuki practically forgot where he was, just happy to meet a familiar face and make a new friend.
Another loud slurp. Her violet eyes fall into an unamused leer when he mentions their lack of clean-up. Again, not something that was completely new, but it left her fazed the next morning anyhow. At least they’d had their fun, though… Even without her mother. How odd.
“One out of a handful sounds about right. Pleasure, Miyuki. I was beginning to think One-of-the-guys-who-was-at-my-house-the-other-night was too long and too common a name to refer to you by.” She sighed. “My name? It’s... Nah.”
She motioned for him to move up in line. He still had to order, right…?
“The festival?” Lucina tapped her chin. “Hm…well I’m not sure. I have a busy schedule.” Although Lucina hadn’t seen her friend lately and she has missed her…
She shook her head. “All right, scratch that. I suppose a few hours wouldn’t kill me. I’ll go with you Nah.”
“You mean it?!” Nah hopped up once—before she could stop herself. Geez, how embarrassing. She cleared her throat and reclaimed an air of composure.
“You won’t regret it, Lucina! I already have all the best booths listed out and—we’re gonna leave with the best hauls, you’ll see!”

“Oops.”
To be fair, she probably should have known Owain was going to break her camera. He was a walking disaster, after all. Still, it was strange. Bad luck seemed to be ever present with him and he didn’t know why. Of course, he was oblivious to the messes he’d create back at the palace, one of which involved several months to ‘clean up.’
His poor uncle had to replace an entire bathroom thanks to his…fun.
“Um… I’ll buy you a new one. It won’t be as cheap. Don’t worry, I got money.” He flashes Nah his trademark grin hoping that she wasn’t going to sock him in the mouth.
She doesn’t really know how to feel. They say that pictures are a window into the soul. And now, her soul is shattered. –Or was that saying about eyes? …It didn’t matter! What mattered was the fact that she’d been split wide open to vulnerability, all at the hand of Owain.
Owain and his damn sword hand.
“This is one of the reasons I don’t believe in selfies, Owain.” Her voice comes out smooth, calm even. Good. That’s good.
Except it’s not good and he has to be aware of this. Nah takes a deep breath.
“Owain, come here.”
❛Woah there, don’t hate me ‘cause I’m beautiful!❜
–At the very least, she was super pretty. What an earful Nahwould have conjured if her beauty had been contrary to that.
“Sorry– I am programmed to hate allof which I do not understand. And I do not understand what entity would havechosen to gift someone like you with that.”
❛You’re just really lucky to know me, you know that?❜
“You’re right– I can’timagine how unsatisfying it would be if I lost the chance at seeing you finallygetting served without the pleasure of having known your company. Thank you forthat! So much.”
Now someone just had to actually do the serving or she’d be taking up those culinary classes after all.
❛ because who doesn't love ME? ❜ -—- cocky/self-absorbed sentence starters
❛I love myself almost as much as you do.❜
❛How can I be so perfect without breaking a sweat?❜
❛You’re just really lucky to know me, you know that?❜
❛You’re so adorable when you forget that I’m drowning in cash money and self-satisfaction.❜
❛Yeah, I know I’m gorgeous. Now tell me something I don’t know.❜
❛Where have I been all your life?❜
❛In a perfect world, everything would begin and end with me.❜
❛I’m so glad to see you! Now you can go get me a cappuccino.❜
❛If there’s anything more important than my ego around here, I want it caught and shot now.❜
❛I’m always thinking about myself, and I expect everybody else to do the same. That’s what’s called sympathy.❜
❛You should be thinking about others. In fact, you should be thinking about me.❜
❛See my crown? I am king, and I love the endless worshipping.❜
❛It’s almost scary how good I look in this.❜
❛Woah there, don’t hate me ‘cause I’m beautiful!❜
❛If you’re going to hate yourself this much, you should at least start worshipping me to make up for it.❜
❛My father used to say to me, 'it’s not all about you.’ I told him I was working on it.❜
❛I NEED ATTENTION TWENTY-FOUR HOURS A DAY!!!❜
❛Hey, quit fooling around! We’ve got more important things to focus on. By which I mean me. Let’s just all pay attention to me.❜
Nothing could really catch his attention and keep it honestly. He got bored or annoyed easily and would continue on his way, ignoring whatever it was that even managed to catch even a margin of his interest.
But it did happen on occasion. He really had no interest in stopping when he had seen the crowd gathering around some street performer. It couldn’t have been all that interesting. He had kept walking until just out of the corner of his eye he caught the performer pull out a deck of cards. His head had turned, curious and he had slowed to a stop. What could the man possibly do with a deck of cards?
He barely registered when someone bumped into him, it was to be expected really when one was just standing around in the way of others. That didn’t stop the spike if irritation though. He turned at an unfamiliar voice addressing him. He eyed the shorter person before giving an uncaring shrug.
“Not really.” and it didn’t, he could already feel himself growing bored of the performers tricks.
And this called for a bit of confusion. Nah peered at the man incredulously, watching him watch the show. It wasn’t interest, then? But he did appear to be looking at the performer with quiet intent, didn’t he? Of course, Nah was Nah and she would account the possibility of her misreading his expression as a slight percentage, but, for the most part—
She was sure she had pegged down whatever his non-interest was.
“So, you want to kill him.”
She said this calmly, nodding once to exhibit her understanding without condoning the instinct probably harboring within this man’s lack of heart. “He conned you out of—I want to say it’s over one hundred dollars? I, personally, would not consider attacking another over anything less than one thousand, but times are rough.”
What she couldn’t see was how he planned to do this with the crowd growing by the second. She clicked her tongue. “Choose your battles carefully and wisely.”
Lucina’s still not sure what her small friend wanted from her (then again Lucina never does) but here she was, jumping in surprise as Nah spoke up. She arches an eyebrow at her and eyes the book.
“Oh? When don’t you?” She smiles. “Okay, shoot.”
Noting Lucina’s glance, Nah instinctively turned her book’s cover to face her chest and away from plain sight just a little too quickly. Some things were better left unmentioned.
“There were a couple of times when I couldn’t think of—oh, no, that’s a lie. Okay, I’m sorry—what I was wondering was this; what do you think about that upcoming festival? We should go!”
Miyuki was just standing in line for food at sandwich place when he was casually approached by a random stranger. Or what seemed to be a random stranger at the least. “Eh? I don’t th- wait you do look familiar?” he says after realizing that she did look like someone he knew. “Weren’t you the chick we crashed the house at that one night or whatever?”
She took a loud sip from her straw, looking up her nose at him, eyebrows still slanting with identification processing. And then, there it was.
“Oh, you were with that crowd! That’s why I immediately categorized you as a weirdo! Okay, yeah, thank you for clearing that up! –It was just that one time, right? Or do you make it a habit of playing strange games at unfamiliar households.”
Her tone flat-lined again and she took another loud sip. Really, the people her mother associated with… Maybe understanding them was a path to understanding her.
noblefate
She lingered about idly as she waited for a blue-haired apparition, book cradled in one hand’s grip as always—snapping it shut loudly when she finally saw who she came to meet. (Partially on reaction, partially to try and startle the serious Lucina.) “Lucina, hey! I had to see you—I have a question!”
