My grandfather left my grandma for another woman, leaving her with her 5 children, and this wedding ring. He told her, “when you stop loving me as I did, you will sell this ring for money to raise our children.” Though, my grandfather was a really good father to my mom, my relatives, everyone, he still left and I will never understand why he did. He’s not here anymore, but my grandmother is. She still had the ring her whole life. Today, she gave it to me. She told me even when men treat you like nothing, you need to be strong for yourself. But you still deserve to treat yourself by remember the reason you fell for the man. She told me she kept it the whole time because she couldn’t give away her love for him, even though he did. The warming thing, was that my grandfather kept his ring as well. He had two rings. It was under his new ring from his new wife, at his funeral. I guess I learned that love is internal, and whether the person is worth it or not, you need to think of the reasons that person is a good person that you fell for. And you need to decide whether THAT is worth the whole thing. Because that’s the only thing that matters.
