Fairy tales — the proper kind, those original Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen tales I recall from my Eastern European childhood, unsanitized by censorship and unsweetened by American retellings — affirm what children intuitively know to be true but are gradually taught to forget, then to dread: that the terrible and the terrific spring from the same source, and that what grants life its beauty and magic is not the absence of terror and tumult but the grace and elegance with which we navigate the gauntlet.
(bold mine) I’m in love with this article, and with the articles it links to at the end. It sums up a lot of things I’ve felt for a while.

Easy Ways to Celebrate Ostara
Ostara begins tomorrow, and could possibly be one of my FAVORITE holidays. In traditional Wicca, Ostara celebrates the union between the Lord and the Maiden Goddess. It is a time of love, youthfulness, union, partnerships, and conception. Personally, I enjoy focusing Ostara more on the Maiden Goddess and witchcraft that revolves around self-care, love, and beauty.
Outside of traditional Wicca, Ostara should be a focus on self-love, sharing love, and beauty. Focus on making yourself feel beautiful, inside and out. Focus on sharing love with everyone you care about.
Here’s a pretty simple list of ideas for how to celebrate Ostara without any big, huge rituals:
Wear pastels or florals or lace to celebrate spring and youthfulness
Buy yourself some seeds and start planting if the weather permits
Go bird watching/listening
Do your makeup or dress up even if you have nowhere to go
Spa day. Treat yo’self, witches.
Do some spring cleaning and get rid of the clutters of winter
Bubble baths are honestly holy af, bonus points if you throw in some magic
Spend a day in the sun, if the weather permits
Buy a bouquet of flowers
Dance under the stars
Get a beauty/glamor spell going for you
Share some love with your partners, share some love with your friends, share some love with your family, share some love with your pets, share some love with your people, share some love with your plants. SHARE. SOME. LOVE.
Do something nice for someone else. Plan a service project or something. Be as beautiful inside as you are out.
Spend a few minutes writing a personal, individual message to the people you care about. Let them know how much you love them.
MAKE. YOURSELF. FEEL. BEAUTIFUL. Whether that be throwing on a puffy dress, going all out on your makeup, not wearing any makeup at all, etc. Do whatever makes you feel beautiful (without tearing anyone else down).
This is the best time to improve on your relationships, improve on your self-confidence, and to come back to life after the dead of winter. Take some time for yourself and for your loved ones.
Blessed be, you lovely badasses!

Souped up Sacred Spaces and Altars
First off, what is an altar?
An altar, to me, is a place where I can worship, do magic, meditate, allow myself to be spiritually comfortable, and where I can write in my Grimoire. There is so much potential for altar’s; they can be big, small, minimalist, grand. They can be in a backpack or on a tabletop or in a window sill. There’s so much potential when it comes to altars and that’s part of what makes them so fun.
Now that you know what an altar is, what can you do if you’re feeling stuck?
Take your altar down to the BARE BONES. Find anywhere between one and five items you feel are “vital” for your altar and try working with a space that’s very much minimalist.
Find a few items; crystals, jewelry, packs of herbs; whatever you like. And carry them around with you. Have an altar in your pocket with these items (I recommend putting them in a little reusable bag so they don’t fall out and get lost)
Instead of rearranging the stuff you’ve already got on there, rip everything off and start off fresh. Clearing the space off entirely and wiping it down is a good way to start over from the bare basics
What is this altar dedicated to? Is this an altar for a deity or for yourself? For the elements or earth in general? Finding a purpose in your altar helps with putting it together and feeling comfortable in the space
What do I actually plan to do here? Is it going to be a spot for meditation? For ritual work? For research? For all of the above? Make sure you have enough space to work depending on the purpose of the altar and your intentions for it
Dedicate an altar to you and your own energy. It can be an incredibly good way to implement some self care in your work. I always have my altar dedicated to me with my deities having very small parts on it. It’s very important to me that my magic and energy are my main tools in my craft
Make a travel altar! Find an altoids tin and decorate it, filling it with a few small items and taking that around with you or putting it under your bed.\
Make a painting, drawing, or write a poem to place on your altar. Flex your creative muscles! It doesn’t need to be perfect, magic oftentimes isn’t. Just do something you enjoy and find a way to implement it into your altar!
Don’t buy things! I want you to go outside, go for as long a walk as you want, and find things! Look on the side of the road, in the dirt, on the sidewalk. Find something you feel drawn to or you like and, as long as it’s not attached to a tree or animal (don’t pull branches off, don’t pick flowers, don’t take rocks from insects who are using them for shelter etc.) and take it to your altar. Find a spot for it and welcome it to the family. I’ve gotten many sticks, rocks, and a pinecone doing this.
Go ahead and buy stuff. I know I just said not to but there are times when spoiling yourself a bit is ok. Is there a candle holder you’ve been eyeballing? Maybe a crystal at a nearby shop you’ve had a craving for? Go get it (if you can). Witchcraft and sacred spaces isn’t about denying yourself, it’s about finding the things you think are important and sacred and using them. Don’t feel the need to be ashamed for splurging on occasion.
Show up. Be there as often as you can. There’s no point in having such a beautiful and amazing altar if you’re never there. Even if it’s just a few minutes a day; light a candle or just sit there. You don’t need to do a big fancy ritual everytime you’re at your altar, just sitting there can be relaxing and helpful.
And finally, step away. Sometime some of the worst things that I’ve done for my altar was worrying about it too much. Take some time away from it. Perhaps take it down completely for a few days while you clear your head and decide what you want from it.
Hello there darlings! I’ve recently been feeling kind of off about my altar so I thought I’d write up this little list of tips I’ve been giving myself for months while I make and re-make my altar. There are so many different ways an altar can be arranged or figured out and it’s amazing, so take my tips just as they are. Tips. If some of these things don’t work out for you, don’t do them.
Your sacred space is yours, make it so.
Maxwell~
Lovely post! Thanks for taking your time to make this.
Hearth Witch Tips 🌌
Hey witches! As some of you may know, I am a hearth witch. Here is a small list of some witchy things I incorporate into my home. My home and my family is my pride and joy, and it brings me great joy to have little rituals in place for a comfortable, cozy and tranquil living space, and fulfills my nurturing spirit. Enjoy! 💖🌙
🔮 Hanging rosemary at your front door for protection.
🔮 Lavender sachets for under pillows to promote relaxation and calm.
🔮 Spraying bed linen with a blend of water, witch hazel and lavender essential oil.
🔮 Candles in the hearth area of the home can be a replacement for the traditional hearth fire. I have a fireplace, however often burn a candle instead in the warmer months where a fire would be too hot.
🔮 Growing herbs on windowsills is a beautiful touch, and especially useful for witches without access to a garden space. Grow herbs based on your desired intent for the home, and the bonus is they can also be used for cooking.
🔮 Opening windows can let in fresh air and drive out stagnant energy.
🔮 White vinegar infused citrus peels can make a great cleaning spray. Citrus is associated with sun energy, so it can help bring vitality and uplifting spirit to your home.
🔮 Spraying curtains with a blend of basil essential oil and water can bring peace, wealth and settle conflict in the home.
🔮 Enchanting blankets to provide comfort, reassurance and solace.
🔮 Sweeping and vacuuming can be looked upon as getting rid of unwanted energy.
🔮 Mirrors are thought to amplify the power of everything they reflect. Placing beautiful items such as flowers, crystals, shells and candles, along with keeping them out of sight of clutter can invite beautiful energy into the home.
🔮 Essential oil diffusers are an amazing tool. Use them to infuse whatever essential oils you want in your home, as different oils have different magickal correspondences. I also place my diffuser at the bottom of my wardrobe, to infuse my clothing with different scents and for magickal intent.
🔮Fresh flowers in the home are a great way to liven up a room and have magickal correspondences. Blue flowers are associated with drawing peace and tranquility into the home, so I often have blue hydrangeas in my flower vases.
🔮 To keep away unwanted guests, smear patchouli oil on door handles. Make sure all family members are in the home when doing this.
🔮 Place salt on the windowsills for protection. If a room in your home feels full of negative energy, placing salt in the four corners of the room and letting it sit there for 48 hours will absorb this energy.
🔮 When cooking for my family, I visualize it being infused with love. I imagine the love pouring from my heart into my meals - this simple practise is nurturing and calming.
