salutations! i’ve had this sideblog for two years, and been edd for two decades, so i thought it was about time i spoke up in the tag. to spare you a very long post, i’ve written a bit more about myself here.

i do want to mention that my memories aren’t of a “realistic” world, like the one you and i are living in now. we were “cartoons”, boiling line and all.

as far as i can tell, the eene fictionkin community consists of one double d each year, with the occasional lost accounts of our friends evidenced only by scattered aesthetic boards and canoncall asks. i’m proud to be part of this storied tradition…and i’m not under the impression that anyone is likely to see this account while i’m actively posting.

Reticello Retort on Stand in Front of Altered Chemistry Set #10-07 by Richard Marquis

A wooden box resembling a vintage chemistry set is propped open to reveal a diorama. At the center, a latticework-patterned blue glass retort sits on a three-legged metal stand. The background of the box is a partially finished paint-by-number scene of a lighthouse. Inside, the box is filled with chemistry tools such as test tubes and litmus paper, but also miniature bottles of alcohol and a plastic figurine of a smiling lightbulb-nosed figure made of bolts of electricity. A “Gilbert Chemistry Outfit” sticker of a boy holding test tubes is stuck on the inside door, and the back is covered with stickers and markings, including a faded price tag and the year “1946”.

Per Olov Ultvedt (July 5, 1927 - 2006) was a Finnish-born Swedish artist and art educator. He came to Sweden as a child and studied there at the Royal Swedish Academy, where he later also became a professor and vice-president.

He was inspired by Jean Tinguely to make mobiles and installations, often involving time pieces and commenting on the notion of time.

so many cartoons featured the characters attempting to build homemade flying devices that for a long time as a child I just kind of assumed they were something everyone had to deal with at some point and they’d inevitably feature in my own life

that said, while i think cohen's writing is evocative, it can be a little dense, so while i'm here, here's my capsule summary (you can also hear me talk about this in the first episode of my podcast) (listen to @ghostswerepeopletoo)

ii. the monster always escapes - As long as the cultural fear from which the monster stems persists, the monster will reappear in retellings, reimaginings, and sequels.

iii. the monster is the harbinger of category crisis - Monsters defy binaries and challenge easy comprehension or categorization.

iv. the monster dwells at the gates of difference - The monster represents the Other.

v. the monster polices the borders of the possible - Tales of the monster exist to discourage unacceptable or taboo behaviors.

vi. fear of the monster is really a kind of desire - Subjects can vicariously participate in the disruption of the social order through the monster.

Mendeleev was a Russian chemist and inventor. He is best known for formulating the Periodic Law and creating a version of the periodic table of elements.

It's insane unbelievable amazingly pleasing how much Americans love scams. Doing them but especially getting scammed. It truly is their national pastime in a uniquely powerful way. America has a whole significant religion which more or less openly started life as a scam, the rest of the world is streets behind them
