i'm not on this blog anymore but i only recently found out that the RE7's narrative designer & writer for all its DLCs (richard pearsey) was also a writer on both DLCs for the original F.E.A.R. which explains why the fuck capcom just decided to do alma wade but again with eveline, like, beyond the ring/grudge inspirations both characters clearly share, eveline's depiction across 7 but especially the tanker section you play through with mia, her obsession with family & the revelation of her real form being older are just copied directly off F.E.A.R.
oh and the writer of ressie village (antony johnston) was part of the original writing staff of dead space (2008) and the lead writer on three different dead space spinoffs, all my favorite video game horror franchises are connected

in the mouth of madness (1994, john carpenter)
list of things eveline represents:
climate change
mkultra
should’ve had eveline crawl up the well from donna’s basement, c’mon capcom
the specialest little girl is here to impart pain & torment
october has been a month in which i’ve watched horror movies and thought to myself ‘wow this is kind of like resident evil 7!’
barbarian (zach cregger, 2022)
Deadstream (2022) dir. Joseph & Vanessa Winter
eveline is both a sadistic, cruel & capricious monster bred in a lab to resemble an innocent, young little girl in order to instill a false sense of security into the targets of her mind control abilities & a confused child with unimaginable, horrific powers she didn’t ask for thrust upon her by a faceless horde of scientists who let her grow without love & family under consistent monitoring & confinement

as usual, eveline’s sudden appearance catches zoe off-guard. the girl is quiet when she wants to be, zoe thinks. if girl is an appropriate descriptor for the science experiment holding zoe’s family hostage. the mommy and daddy eveline refers to are nothing but shells, their true personalities hollowed out so that eveline can fill them with whatever she wants, violence and hate, murder and idol-worship for eveline herself. THAT’S WHAT ZOE HAS TO BELIEVE: this, and not that these are her parents’ true selves that eveline has somehow unlocked, free of inhibitions. she wants to swing at eveline, wants to hit the kid like she’s never wanted anything before, but zoe knows that will end badly, and she doesn’t want to end up dismembered by her own father, or worse, another mindless eveline-worshipping zombie. gd help her, but she wants to LIVE. “why are you doing this to us?” she demands, and her voice cracks slightly. “we would have helped you – would have taken care of you! why us? what did we ever do to you?”
zoe doesn’t want to play, she never wants to play & eveline hates that she can’t make her . like a doll she’s dropped down a well, somewhere she cannot reach, no mater how long she waits for the stone to rot . eveline doesn’t understand why, zoe’s family have all joined in on her little game, now they are eveline’s mommy & daddy too; her big brother doesn’t hold himself back, he collects more people for eveline to turn & he has his fun with those that don’t, why can’t her big sister play along ? zoe’s taken part of eveline’s touch, on that long, dark night, caught in the eye of the storm eveline dug her fingers into her arm & her gift was passed on, secreted through the skin . that should’ve been it, even mia couldn’t resist & somehow zoe still holds onto everything she was before eveline became a baker . it’s frustrating, it’s confusing, it’s a boil of emotion in the pit of her stomach she doesn’t want to feel, something she should no longer have to feel . eveline pouts, it’s the only thing she can do, she’s heard that big girls don’t cry & if zoe isn’t going to set an example, her little sister will, “ you’re so silly, they are taking care of me . they love me, don’t you love me too ? ”
eveline works like psycho mantis except instead of scanning your memory card she browses your brain for media you’ve consumed & judges you for it
LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS (1986), dir. Frank Oz
it’s not enough that one of eveline’s early names was ‘samara’, but one of the songs on the resident evil 7 soundtrack is titled ‘the grudge’
you’re telling me there was a version of resident evil 7 where eveline was genuinely horrific in her child form? (source)
