I wrote & Illustrated the Brave New Weird award winning comic (I'm so excited about this) Blackbird Hunting, but my other major comic project was House & Home. Any travel advice site will tell you to travel like a local, but honestly you should local like a traveller. Go out with wide eyes and curiosity. Visit museums and parks and art galleries, try out the overpriced but highly rated restaurants that only tourists visit, take photos and video, stop to read those heritage information signs, treat yourself to an ice cream on a hot day. Don't let tourists be the only ones who take joy in your home.

RIP Marjane Satrapi, author of the amazing graphic novels Persepolis about living during the fundamentalist revolution in Iran in the 70’s and 80’s. She also created the animated movie based on the graphic novels, which is where these gifs come from.

This is a perfect time to read the brilliant and unforgettable graphic novel(s) Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, about growing up in Iran during and after the Iranian Revolution, and the rise of the oppressive theocracy that persists to this day.

Both graphic novels are available free online (Persepolis vol. 1, Persepolis vol. 2)

It also was adapted to a wonderful film (co-directed and co-written by the author) which is available to watch for free on Sundance Now (sign up for the free trial)

As she wrote, ordinary Americans and Iranians have more in common with each other than we do with either of our governments, which have far too much in common with each other.

We honor her memory and oppose the war.

was outside earlier and a bird Came Up, squatted down, fluttered it’s wings at me and opened its mouth like a hatchling begging for food (it was a grown female) so I went and checked the seed cube in the feeder and the thing was completely covered in mold. this is one of the weirdest things that’s ever happened to me. how did she know im the one in charge of the birdseed. i have spent my afternoon confusedly getting dressed, driving to the store, purchasing a new seed block, driving home, washing the cage, and getting the feeder set back up. i don’t take this much care for my Own nutrition. ive been bullied into a grocery store run by a tufted titmouse. i feel so loved

Rainbow in a Red State of Mind, Watercolor & Mixed media, 2026 Rainbow in a red state is an expression of the inherent feelings of danger that come with living in Missouri, a red state, as a trans person. I love Missouri, but living here can feel like I’m drowning in hate with potential threats closing in on all sides, just like this Eastern Bluebird surrounded by Coyote jawbones. Yet, this bluebird still clings to the beauty of its home, a branch of Flowering Dogwood tree, and the hope that that beauty will welcome it one day. The Eastern Bluebird and the Flowering Dogwood are Missouri’s state bird and state tree respectively.
