A/N: Reader sleeps a lot because her abilities take up a lot of her energy.

Reader also had a lot of hair and it sometimes gets in their face so she has to flip their head upside down and then back up or run their hand through their hair to see.

Reader has a jacket like Mihawk but it goes down to her knees otherwise she'll trip

You enter the restaurant and slip past the host in search of your crew. You can hear Luffy and know exactly where they are. You stand in front of the table, "you guys ditched me."

"You were still sleeping," says Luffy.

"You didn't wake me up," you tell them with a pout.

"We tried to," Nami tells you.

"You’re the one that wouldn’t wake up," Zoro adds, glancing at you; wondering if you’ll even make it through the meal.

Sanji glances your way and notices your figure standing in front of an unattended table.

He admires your jacket as he heads over.

"Fine, you tried. Now move over, stretchy." You try to move him only to fail, which your captain laughs at. You roll your eyes and walk over him, Usopp being kind enough to scooch over, so you have room.

You sit at the top of the booth. You didn't realize it, but you zoned out until Nami smacked your leg. Your jaw drops as you rub the spot. "Ow. Was that necessary?"

She gestures to the blond standing in front of the table.

"And for the madam?"

"What are we doing?"

Nami and Zoro roll their eyes.

"We're ordering our drinks," Usopp tells you.

"Ah, right. Water."

"And would the madam like stilled, sparkling, mineral? With ice or without? Cubed or crushed?"

The corner of your lip twitches. "Well, aren’t we sweet? You want to please all the ladies you, see?"

His head drops, he glances at the ground before looking back up, staring at you through his lashes and hair. "Only the ones who entice me with their beauty."

"I'll let you surprise me."

"Excellent choice, madam. You will not be let down."

"I know I won't."

"What was that?" Zoro asks.

"What?" You turn to him.

He starts rattling off everything Sanji said.

"He was being polite."

"To you," the orange haired girl mutters.

"Huh?"

"He only called me madam once and then you stole his attention. Clearly there was something about you that caught his eye."

"I don’t think so."

Every single kind of water he offered was brought to the table.

After Zoro loses the battle and the head chef along with the blond come in to help him, you two start talking each time he's here.

"I smell food," you lean against the doorway.

He chuckles, "I would certainly hope so. You're the only one who hasn't eaten. Are you worried that worried about your friend?"

"Of course, I'm worried about the idiot but not enough to lose too much sleep over him. My abilities take up a lot of my energy and sleeping helps me. I was napping."

He nods, "ah, now that makes sense." He glances up from the ingredients he grabbed. "Would you like to eat something?"

You nod, "I would, kind of why I came down here."

"I know. How do you feel about exposing your palate to an array of flavors?"

"I think I made a mistake."

He shakes his head, smiling. "Nonsense. I'm going to make you an unforgettable meal."

You were up on the roof when Argon and his crew entered.

You secure the rope around your waist before jumping down. "Why are you picking on people less than half your size?"

"Who are you?"

"Someone who's already kicked your bony nosed ass."

He growls, realizing who you are.

"You want to fight someone? Fight me," you smirk. "I'm a better opponent than stretchy." You tug at the rope, rolling it up. "Come on, then. Try to hit me."

He comes at you, and you dodge him.

Again.

And again.

And again.

He growls before his hand clamps down on your jacket (something you made sure happened on purpose).

"Don't touch my jacket."

"Why? You gonna cry if I do."

"No," you grab his hand and twist his wrist, "you might. Clone shift."

He's baffled at the sight of him, standing before him. "Stop it. Turn back."

"Nope."

He and Luffy are outside before you can stop him.

"Hey, you two idiots."

His crew turns to you, eyes widening at the sight of their captain even though he just walked out the door.

You punch the two of them hard enough for them to roll on the dock outside the restaurant.

You walk over to check on Sanji and Usopp, the former taking a big hit on his back.

"Are you two-" you groan and hold onto the railing as you shift back to yourself.

Blood catches the story teller's eye. "Did you take some of Zoro's cut?"

All the pain in his body left him as the blond urges forward to catch you.

"So, what? It's nothing. I can take it."

"You overexerted yourself enough already. Come on," Sanji says, helping you up.

"Are we going to help Luffy?"

"We are, you're not."

You let out a small disagreeing noise.

"Don't argue with me."

You all catch the sight of the energetic captain falling into the water and rush over.

Sanji's quicker than you and takes action. He throws off his shirt and jacket before diving in.

You force yourself to stay awake and not pass out.

His head pops up back in the surface.

Usopp helps haul the rubber man onto the dock.

You hold a handout for the chef, but he doesn't take it. "Where's Nami?"

"She's gone. She's apart of Arlong's crew," Usopp tells Luffy.

Sanji's body slumps down, his butt resting on the heels of his feet.

Dots cloud your vision and your feet sway, you knew the second you cloned, you were done.

Sanji and Usopp catch you before you could fall.

The blond man leaning down to listen to your heartbeat and make sure you're- "She's still breathing."

"She," Luffy takes a deep breath, his voice coming out scratchy. "She did too much."

"We need to get you two back on your ship."

You wake up and find yourself in your room.

You sit up, finding no one else here.

You grab your jacket and make your way to the kitchen.

"He convinced you?"

Sanji jumps, not expecting you to be awake. "Are you hungry?"

You nod and slowly make your way over to the couch. "No objections. I'll take whatever the chef makes."

"That can get dangerous if you say that to the wrong person."

"Good thing I'm just talking to you."

The corner of his lips twitch as gets back to work.

"Hey, I just-" Usopp smiles when he sees you here. "You're up. How're feeling?"

"Hungry and tired."

"The usual, cool. I wasn't worried, at all." He stops in front of the chef. "What's new on today's menu?"

"Not for you."

He gasps, "rude. I fought in that battle too, you know."

"You crawled away like a bug being found under a log."

He whines when you out him.

The other two enter the kitchen.

Zoro glances at you, "you're an idiot."

"Way to make a girl feel special asshole."

"You're going to have a scar."

"You're welcome for making sure you don't die because of your own mistake, moron."

He leans against the wall, watching over everyone.

Luffy stretches his arms out to hug you, letting his body slam into you. "You're awake. Are you okay? You passed out. Is that always normal?"

Usopp smacks the captain, "get off her. She just woke up, you're not helping."

"Food is ready."

"Time to eat!"

"No," Sanji smacks Luffy with the dish towel. "The lady gets hers first."

You stick your tongue out at your friend. "I knew I liked you for a reason."

"Other than my good looks."

The green haired man rolls his eyes, "would you stop flirting and feed the idiot before he steals the food."

"Not until the lady gets hers."

"The lady will be fine."

"You call yourself a man. A true man would make sure-"

You flick the two of them on their foreheads. "Shut up."

You give Luffy and Usopp their bowls, "eat you animals."

"Oh, we told the town of your sacrifice," you explain to Nami.

"We didn't know. Could you ever forgive us?" The guard asks.

"This is going to be a massacre," the orange haired girl says.

"For them," you crack your knuckles. "I got this."

Usopp thins his lips, "I don't think so. You're just gonna lose consciousness again."

"Why don't I knock you unconscious?"

Sanji steps forward and pulls you off the side. "Excuse her, she was woken up from a nap." He covers your ears. "She's cranky."

You smack his hands off you.

You sit on the wall, watching as everyone fights. It was the smart move, save more of your energy.

It was only when they started bad mouthing Nami that you really started getting fired up. "Woah! Hey! Hey!" You grab a rock and throw it at the fishman's head. "Don't bad mouth my friend!"

Sanji removes his jacket without removing his gaze.

"Now you've done it," Zoro mumbles.

You jump down and walk towards the green haired man.

Sanji doesn't stop until the fishman has been taken care of.

Zoro judges the chef, with him calling out his finishing move.

"Ignore him. You did good, Sanji."

He lowers his head, unable to respond to your comment.

Zoro shakes his head, not in the mood to deal with his pining.

Usopp makes his way back to you.

"Nice of you to join us."

The storyteller smiles. "Yeah, just- uh- wish I didn't miss so much of this."

You glance at Zoro and raise a brow, both of you knowing that he doesn't mean it.

The green haired man just gives him a look of disappointment.

Nami runs away from the deteriorating building and glances back over her shoulder. She turns back and runs towards you guys.

Sanji opens his arms with a smile, "Nami!"

She ignores him and throws her arms around the second in command and storyteller.

You offer him a sorry look before turning around at the sound of her calling your name. "Are you okay?" You ask.

Instead of replying she throws her arms around you, holding you tightly. "Thank you."

"Why?"

"You and Luffy gave me something I never thought I could have."

You smile. "Alright kid, get off me." You wipe her under eyes, making sure no one knew how much she was crying. You pat Sanji's shoulder, "she just doesn't know you yet."

"That would make sense."

"Where's Luffy?"

"He's still in there, fighting Arlong."

You huff, "why can't he wait for help?" You groan and start to take a step forward when they stop you.

The chef grabs your wrist and pulls you back. "Nope."

"Are you nuts?" Usopp asks. "I mean seriously. You want to fight that fishman?!"

"I'm not going to let Luffy-" The building collapses. "Great! My oldest friend is-"

"Nami! We are you're friends! We are your crew!"

"Still alive! Yay!" You jump up and down before throwing yourself into the blond's arms.

"Look who finally got their hug."

"Shut up, Nami."

The crew gets into a fight ( it can be the Navy or anither pirate crew) and the reader gets badly hit and Sanji just loses his shit seeing the person that he cared for the most getting knocked out?? I just genuinely wanna see Sanji just go ape shit on people because of it XD and maybe hiw the others in the clue will react to seeing Sanji like that? @smolracoon25

Summary: You and Sanji have been playing the flirting game for way too long. When you get injured, Sanji shows a side of himself you had yet to see.

“Don't you ever take a break?”

Zoro's voice coming from behind startled you, forcing you to break your longing gaze at Sanji who was fishing at the bow of the ship. “Huh?” came your wise response.

Zoro looked from you to Sanji. “You've been making moon eyes at him for months now. Don't you get tired? Or are you waiting for him to take his shift staring at you so that you can clock off?”

You felt heat rising to your cheeks. This was far from the first time crew members commented about you and Sanji's – whatever was going on between you two – but this was the first time Zoro called you out so blatantly.

When you didn't respond, Zoro went on. “I just came to tell you we should be docking soon. I'll leave you the pleasure of telling the cook.” with that, he left.

You closed the book on your lap. You really did have the intention of reading when you first head out to the deck, having some time to kill, but then... you noticed Sanji. At first you thought you'd go sit with him for a while, flirt and banter a little as you always do, but you found yourself absorbed in taking him in instead. He was different when he was alone. The way he looked so focused, so deep in thought when it was just him and the sea. Maybe even a little sad. So different from his usual sunny exterior that he put on when he was with people. Falling in to deep thoughts wondering what he might be thinking about – maybe about you? - you sat and stared, not reading as much as a word.

The book discarded, you felt a spring in your step as you made your way to the ship's chef.

The creaking floorboards alerted your arrival. Sanji turned to see who was creeping up on him, and when he saw you, he set his fishing rod aside as a wide smile grew on his lips, his dimples deepening and making your heart miss a beat. “There's my favourite girl. Come here, let me hear all about your day.” Sanji held his arms open, beckoning you to come sit on his lap.

The flirting was nothing new. When you first joined the Strawhats, Sanji was as flirty to you as he was to any other woman; he did not expect to meet his match in you. You were quick to play along, always one-upping him, dancing along the line that separated playfulness and seriousness, never quite picking a side.

The problem was, in reality, you had chosen a side long ago.

You would flirt and giggle and make him blush but never actually act upon anything. Neither would Sanji. He, however, took your playing along as though it was a battle to be won. Sanji would flirt, you'd reply with something raunchy, he would surprise you with something heartfelt. It was as though he knew exactly where to hit in order to get you a little closer to buckling, every time. As time went on he had become so devoted to your back and forth that you noticed he had gradually abandoned all other efforts flirting with other women, to focus entirely on you.

You had to remind yourself that this was a game to him. An instinct, almost. It hurt to think of your relationship that way, but you had to keep that thought at the forefront of your mind if you didn't want to fall even harder for him.

So you would continue to play along, even if that's all that you could have with him.

You chose not to indulge him completely – that was too dangerous for you – and so you opted to bend a knee over the armrest of his chair. Close, but no contact. “Come on, Sanji,” you bent your head in what felt like a bashful manner and said, “you know I spent all day thinking of you.”

You weren't sure if he was blushing or if that was just your wishful thinking. Composing himself, Sanji wrapped an arm around you to hold your waist, lightly tracing circles on your hip. “I beg of you, darling – next time, come find me instead of just thinking of me. I'll make it worth your while.”

You wanted to ask, how will you make it worth my while? Just to hear Sanji go in to detail of what you've been fantasizing about for months. But instead, you opted for a tamer response. “I came to tell you we're docking soon. Maybe I'll find you then and you could make it worth my while with a drink.”

Without missing a beat, Sanji took hold of your hand, bringing it to his lips. “There's nothing I'd enjoy more.” With that, he kissed your hand, his eyes never leaving yours.

Docking started out normal. Everyone knew what their usual chores were when you reached a town, restocking and fixing so that the ship would be in top condition for its next leg of the journey in your search for the One Piece. So while Sanji went in to town to restock on groceries (you didn't pay much attention to the others), you, Nami and Usopp stayed around the ship to fix up some of the damage it took when you last encountered a rival pirate ship. That also happened to be the reason it was just you three when the same rival pirates noticed your ship docked, ready to take their revenge.

The three of you had your individual talents, but you just weren't enough to hold up against an entire rival crew. They had attacked so suddenly and so fiercely – it didn't take long before you were on the sand, fighting to stay conscious. You lost that fight as you watched Usopp try his best to fight off three attackers at once.

You really thought that would be the end for you. You should have known better; it was Sanji's voice you heard as you regained consciousness, motivating you to open your eyes despite the pain that flooded your body.

The beach area all around you was covered with pirates who were taken down, just like you – only that they were your enemies. You first noticed Nami's orange hair – she seemed to be taking care of a bleeding Usopp, his condition worse than yours. Following Sanji's voice, you found him holding the last one of the rival crew by his shirt, throwing punches like you've never seen him before. It took you aback – thinking about it, you had never seen Sanji use his hands in combat. Too precious – need them for cooking, he'd once told you before adding, the only thing more precious to me is you. It had made you blush at the time before you had laughed him off. Now, you were questioning if it was a joke at all.

The man Sanji was holding wasn't putting up a fight – he was far too battered for that, but Sanji didn't stop. He was too far away for you to understand what he was saying to the guy, but focusing hard, you could just about make out half sentences – "to hit a woman" – "don't deserve to breath" – "finish you" – you searched for the strength to get up and stop him. You had never seen Sanji – your happy, cheerful Sanji – so angry, feral even. It scared you a little; but mostly, you knew Sanji would regret it if he were to kill a man who no longer posed a threat. So you grasped at the sand, forcing your aching bones to pick yourself up. But as you were regaining your balance, Sanji finally threw the man to the sand, a look of disgust painting his handsome features. "Finally made a date with her and you ruined it... You hurt her. You're lucky I don't kill you." The man groaned in pain.

In a sharp change, his features went from anger to concern as he finally left the man and turned to where he last saw you laying. His eyes were full of honest pain, until he saw you on your feet – then they read of hope. "Y/n!" Sanji called, rushing to you as he could see your struggle to stand upright. "You- I-" he scanned your body as he reached you, taking in all visible injuries. "Are you – are you okay? Can I help you?" he reached an arm around your waist, waiting for your approval before he held on to help you stay up, so afraid he might hurt you.

"Thanks." his arm around you really helped you to stay up. It was a practical measure, sure, any one of your crew mates would do the same – but when you look up and meet Sanji's eyes, you know that the tense feeling between you two wouldn't have been replicated with anyone else. "I mean it. You saved us. We'd... I'd be lost without you." at that, Sanji smiled that deep-dimpled smile of his at you, the playfulness not reaching his still-concerned eyes.

"Y/n," he started. "are you really flirting with me, at a time like this?"

It was strange how despite all your injuries, you felt less and less of the pain the longer you leaned in to Sanji, close enough to smell his fragrance. A half-smile reached your lips. You couldn't play this game any longer. "Did you really beat that guy up that bad because he ruined what should have been our... date?"

Sanji tensed, obviously not ready to have this conversation now. His gaze dropped momentarily before he wrapped his other arm around your waist, holding you tightly to him. "I had a hundred reasons to kill him," Sanji said, and you felt disappointment bubbling through you until he continued, "but the most pressing reason is that he ruined our date."

Sanji took the opportunity to tuck a stray strand of hair behind your ear and you couldn't help but smile so big you were embarrassed by it. "I really wanted that drink with you, away from the ship and everyone else. Just us."

You recomposed yourself. You needed clarity. "I'm not playing anymore, Sanji."

Sanji chuckled. "Fancy that. I was never playing at all."

You must have forgotten how to breath at all when he leaned down, his hand finding a rest on your neck as his thumb caressed your cheek. Nearly a whisper, he asked – "Can I kiss you?"

You leaning in served as the consent he searched for. After months of pining over each other, wondering what it would be like – his lips met yours, in a mixture of softness and passion like you'd never felt before. Forgetting you were injured at all you sneaked your arms around his neck, pulling him in, almost afraid of letting this anticipated moment of passion go. Sanji was more than happy to pull closer, a hand on your lower back holding you impossibly close to him.

The moment did, however, find its end as you heard your Captain whoop and holler from afar. "Yeah! Way to go, Sanji! About damn time!"

Breaking the kiss, Sanji nodded at Luffy, his smile lines prominent as he looked the proudest you'd ever seen him.

The crew was more than happy to make a quick exit that night, preferring to not stay around until the rival crew regained their strength. You were helping Nami untie the ropes anchoring the ship to the dock when she said, "I really thought he was going to kill him earlier." you didn't know how to respond. "I've never seen Sanji like that." Nami managed to untie a knot, and Zoro began pulling the rope up on to the ship. "He's really got it bad for you."

Despite that questionable context, you couldn't help but smile. In a burst of honesty you confessed; "I hope so, because I've got it real bad for him, too."

On cue, the ship's chef leaned over the ships railing, looking down to you. "Y/n, my love!" he called, as though the rest of the crew wasn't surrounding the both of you. "I hope you're finished down there, because I've got a candlelit dinner waiting for you up here. And drinks. You know, to make it worth your while," he finished with a wink.

From behind Sanji you could hear Luffy ask, "What about our dinner? Just because you're lovers now doesn't mean we don't need to eat..."

Sanji sighed and turned away from you, probably to go protect your dinner before Luffy demolished it.

"Right then, let's go," Nami said as you finished untying the last rope. "While there's still food to eat."

And for the first time, you boarded your ship not to find the One Piece or the All Blue – you were just happy to be there, with the man you loved.

A/n: I’ve never really been a Sanji girl but ever since the live action came out, I’m starting to love Sanji more and more XD also! The gif is from @adragonswhimsy. They have nice gifs so do check them out!

The kitchen at the Baratie was a hive of activity, but amidst the clattering pots and pans, you were in your own world, meticulously chopping and prepping ingredients for the next day's meals. It was a role you took seriously, a way to contribute your skills to the Baratie and help Zeff, who had been like a father to you. As the evening wore on, the day's rush finally subsided. It was now nighttime, and you were still engrossed in your work, the rhythmic chopping of vegetables the only sound in the kitchen. That is until the door swung open, and a familiar voice greeted you.

"Hey there, Y/N" Sanji's voice was like music, smooth and warm. You turned to see him standing there, a pile of dirty plates in his arms, his trademark cigarette perched between his lips. "Hey, Sanji," you replied, smiling warmly. You and Sanji had known each other for years, having become close friends while growing up together on the Baratie. Your bond was special, different from his usual interactions with women. It was more like that of close siblings.

Sanji set the dirty plates down, his eyes never leaving you. He leaned casually against the counter, watching your skilled hands work the knife. "What's cookin'?" he asked, a playful grin on his face. You chuckled, glancing up at him. "Just prepping for tomorrow. You know how it is," you replied, a hint of pride in your voice. Cooking was your passion, and you were good at it.

As you explained the dish you were preparing, something unexpected happened. In a fleeting moment of distraction, the knife nicked your finger, and you winced, withdrawing your hand. Sanji's reaction was immediate. He abandoned his casual posture, moving swiftly to your side. Taking your injured hand gently, he examined the cut with concern in his eyes. "Careful now; You know that knives aren’t something to be frivolous with." he scolded, though his voice held a note of genuine worry.

Your heart fluttered at his touch and his worry. "I know, I know," you said, attempting to brush it off. "Just a little slip." But Sanji was focused on tending to your wound. He fetched a small first-aid kit and carefully cleaned and bandaged your finger. His hands were surprisingly gentle, a far cry from his usual intense demeanor.

As he worked, you couldn't help but notice the sudden tension in the air. It was different from your usual interactions. The closeness, the intimacy of the moment—it felt charged with unspoken emotions. Sanji finished bandaging your finger and looked up at you, his face a shade pinker than usual. "There," he said softly. "All better."

Your heart raced as you met his gaze. With a playful grin, you couldn't resist teasing him a little. "Thanks, Sanji," you said, your voice low and sultry. "You always take such good care of me.” Sanji's eyes widened, and he blinked in surprise. It was clear your comment had caught him off guard, and his cheeks flushed a deeper shade of red. It was a rare sight to see the ever-confident Sanji flustered.

You couldn't help but giggle at his reaction, feeling a newfound sense of closeness between you two. The playful banter continued late into the night, the tension gradually giving way to a comfortable warmth that only seemed to grow stronger with time. Such a brave man!” They fell into a long moment of silence as Y/N carefully removed the medical patches from his tephrosis, she had done it many times before as the GuardHouse’s medical staff. She had been patching the Hikeshi up for as long as she could remember and Konro required daily treatment for his shoulders, “You’re still hot.”

“That’s good to know, here I thought I was looking old.” He saw her raise her hand to give him a playful smack, flinching as he expected her to come down on his wounds - instead, there was a sting to her thigh as she remembered last minute not to hit his shoulder. Konro looked at her with a relieved sigh.

She had changed course seconds before remembering. “I meant your skin, give me a minute.”

The woman got up and left the room, Konro watched after her and picked up his tea, picking up the scent of some sort of medicine mixed in. He also spotted the small cube of sugar she left to help combat the bitter taste that would be left on his tongue. Y/N was so thoughtful when it came to treating others, Konro used to hate being treated for the tephrosis. It was painful and it reminded him how useless he was as a defender now - a samurai who couldn’t fight. At least he had killed the bastard who had said that to him with ease.

Y/N made it bearable though, she changed the patches with ease and distracted him with playful banter, often teasing him or asking his advice, usually something he really had to think about. He never felt weak with her around, she wouldn’t let him dwell on those kinds of things. “I’m back.” “So I see.”

“You’re a real pain, you know that?” She placed the cooling blanket over his shoulders and sat down by his side to wait for it to take effect, “Can I ask your advice?” Y/N started slowly, “Relationship advice?”

He felt an odd churning in his gut when she said that, that wasn’t overly new, he felt it more and more lately, especially when she spoke about other men or was being too friendly with one. “Sure… Though I’m not exactly the best person to ask.”

“I don’t know about that, you and Benimaru have been together a long time, I would have probably have killed him in his sleep several times over.”

“Waka doesn’t sleep, he takes small naps whilst standing,” he watched her hide a laugh and wanted so badly to brush her hair behind her ear, “Besides, that’s more sibling relationship or fed up caretaker and brat master. Have you… have you met someone you like?” Konro thought those words tasted more bitter than the medicine. She was a member of their squad, she didn’t fight fires or infernals but she took care of their injuries and complaints. This didn’t feel like the usual feelings he had for his comrades and he was having trouble separating her from his thoughts more lately.

Y/N fidgeted a little, keeping her hands busy with the edge of her yukata, “I suppose so. You wouldn’t like him.” His eyebrows rose a little and she continued despite his badly held in judgment, “He’s just my type - tall, broad and he’s smart too. Gentle, patient and reliable…”

“Sounds like the worst kind of scum, stay clear.” Konro smiled when she did, if this person was as she was describing then he would be pleased for her… wouldn’t he? “So what advice do you need? All you need to do is walk up to the guy and smile - you’ll knock him off his feet.” He finally caved and reached for that stray hair, his fingers brushing it behind her ear and tried not to linger. Tried not to believe that she might have leaned into the touch. “Y/N, you’re a kind woman, you’re dutiful and if they don’t like you back, me and Waka can have a word.”

“Thank you, Konro-san,”

“I keep telling you, just Konro is fine.” Y/N shrugged at him and moved behind to remove the blanket and carefully feel around the charred skin, the palm of her hand pressed to the middle of his back when he inhaled too sharply, it hurt but that one touch to steady him was enough to make Konro sit straight again. “So, this advice?”

Y/N waited until she had finished with the patches before grabbing fresh bandages and replying, “I can’t get his attention, he’s very dedicated to his work and he has family responsibilities -”

“He’s got, kids?” He held the end of the bandage in place as she started to wrap him, “Please tell me he isn’t married, Y/N.”

“He’s not married and I suppose you could say they’re like his kids… But that’s not the point. He sees me as a friend and I want to be seen as more than that. He makes my heart beat so fast in my chest and it’s hard not to tremble with how much I want him to just pull me in his arms and… ugh!” Y/N had to chase her thoughts away and concentrate on looking after Konro. “You don’t have to listen to me complain.”

The man turned his body so that he could look at Y/N, “I don’t mind. You listen to me plenty.” He didn’t want to give her advice on how to get this guys attention, he wanted to pull her close and feel her tremble for him… When did he even begin to feel this way? Maybe he had grown comfortable knowing she would always be around but now, now, he feared she would be swept away from him. “…Why don’t you tell him how you feel?”

“What if he rejects my feelings? It would never be the same again.” She gathered everything up and told him to get some rest, making sure the cool flannel was on his forehead before heading to the door.

“Y/N,” Konro called out, “He’d be an idiot to reject you.”

She smiled and left him to sleep, coming across Benimaru who took the tray from her, “He’s an idiot and you’re a coward.”

“You’re a brat.” — Konro went about the usual daily routine, he swept the Guardhouse entrance, he did his usual sword practice and got Benimaru and the twins to work. Y/N came to help him with his treatment and he broke up at least two fights in the street. He had seen Y/N speaking with a tall man that morning and he wondered if that was the one she liked, Benimaru had told him later that he had felt as if Konro wanted to kill the guy. He realized he was actually jealous and that made him sit down for the longest time and realize that she wasn’t his to get jealous over…

He was going to tell her tonight when she came to help him. Konro didn’t have anything big planned, he was pretty straightforward once he made up his mind. He was going to pull her against him and kiss her. He was going to tell her that he couldn’t bear the thought of someone else having her and that he had been too stupid to realize it.

“Fire!” The bell started above him in the watchtower and Konro got up and out, looking around for a sign of flames and then confirming that it wasn’t an Infernal.

“I’ll go help, Waka.” Konro waved the other man off, “You go make sure that there’s nothing else going on.” He and a few others ran toward the fire and his eyes widened as he realized he knew that block and who lived in it, “Is everyone cleared out of there?”

“Lieutenant!” Water was already dousing the flames but some of the building had caved in on itself, “There’s someone inside, we’re trying to get to them but it’s unstable right now.” He knew it was her, he just knew that Y/N was inside and he barged past them and into the flaming doorway. The insides of the building were twisted and the heat was intense, “Y/N?!” The man shoved a large beam out of the way, his shoulders ached at the strain and his barely suppressed urge to use his ability to get there faster. “Y/N?!”

Her voice came from a side room, “Konro! I…I can’t get out!” Her arm reached out from the blocked doorway, a partial collapse keeping her trapped. When he got to her she caught his hand and he tried to pat off the fire on her skin. Y/N was a second-generation with a high flame resistance but that was about all. Her clothing was burnt and burning, Konro pulled off his coat and passed it through to her.

“Put it on, you’ll start to burn as you run out of oxygen,” The black, protective plate he wore was resistant to the flames but the bandages around him were already smouldering. Konro began clearing the debris, tiles falling in on him as he shifted joists and held it high enough for Y/N to climb out, “This way, quickly!” Y/N looked down at their joined hands as he pulled her toward the exit, his hands were bleeding and his tephrosis was showing where the bandages and patches had burnt up. She let out a scream as the floor buckled under their feet and the walls came in, Konro pulled her to his chest to protect her from what fell.

She stayed wrapped in his arms until suddenly the flames were gone, seemingly sucked up into the air to vanish. Looking up she was caught in a familiar red gaze, the man looking down at them from the hole in the roof, “You both alive?” Came Benimaru’s bored tone, his expression gave away his concern though and Y/N turned her head to meet Konro’s worried eyes. He was searching every millimetre of her, confirming that she wasn’t hurt beyond a few minor burns and scratches.

“Konro…”

Konro didn’t hesitate, he cupped the back of her head and caught her lips with his, kissing her hard enough that she would know how he really felt. His fear, his relief and hopefully he could convey that she was all he need and ever wanted - he wasn’t ever going to let her go. They parted reluctantly and he had the decency to seem apologetic for being so sudden, “I like you, Y/N.”

“Konro…!” She held him tighter and pushed her face into his neck, grateful to be alive and to have him by her side.

A few days later, as she sat in his lap whilst he read a report, the man seemed to remember what started his realization and asked about the man she had been trying to get his advice on, were her affections so easily forgotten? Benimaru had been sitting in the same room, ignoring their cute couple act for the most part, and he had looked up at Konro with such disdain, “She was talking about you, ya moron!”

“But…” he looked down at her confused, “You said kids, right?” Benimaru threw the report he had down with a frustrated growl and stomped out of the room, complaining about Konro being a stupid son of a bitch, “Oi! Waka! Don’t just throw a tantrum and ditch work! Oi!” The shoji door slammed and he gave a frustrated sigh, “It’s like having a… kid. Yeah, I got it now.”

Watching Company 4 roll in on their metal vehicles and dousing the last of the dying flames filled Y/N with more anger than she thought she could bear. They came in like triumphant heroes but where had they been when the fires were roaring and their people were turning into Infernals?

Nowhere.

It had been the Hikeshi running through the town fighting fires and saving anyone they could, it had been regular people throwing endless buckets of water in an effort to save their houses and many of the people who had an ability to control flames were exhausted. She shoved past one of the Fire soldiers as they tried to direct her elsewhere, drawing Konro’s sword on them when the man tried to grab her - she was quickly left alone.

The sword had been given to her before Konro ran off with Benimaru; he had told her to use it to protect herself whilst he was away from her side. The weapon was one of the most precious things he owned and by giving it to her he was telling her he was going to come back.

Only… he hadn’t come back to her yet.

Y/N stepped out of the way as the Captain of the 4th Company headed up the street, glaring at him as he passed but then she heard Benimaru’s voice from a short distance away, “Beni!” Running hurt her possibly broken ribs but it was hardly on her mind as she spotted Konro propped up against a building, “Konro! Konro you’re o… okay?” Dropping to her knees on the side Benimaru wasn’t she reached out to cup his face, turning it a little to properly look at the slash across his nose, “That’s gonna scar but you’ll still be handsome.” Konro tried to smile at her gentle teasing though it came out as more of a grimace and Y/N finally seemed to notice that his skin was smoking.

Her eyes widened once they saw the burnt and still burning flesh over his shoulders, his arms and his neck, “This…” it wasn’t a normal burn, it wasn’t even the kind of burn that someone with fire resistance skin could get in extreme cases - it was burning from the inside out. Inside some of the wounds, she could see what looked like embers and she realised what he had done. “Konro… you… you didn’t have to go so damn hard! What did you do?!” Hearing her voice too loud and almost shrill she covered it with her hands and tried to fight off her tears. Through her blurry vision, she saw him try to lift his arms to hold her but it seemed it was either too painful or they were too damaged.

“I’ll be okay, Y/N.” Konro grit his teeth as a spike of pain shot through his shoulders again, “Just be strong for me.”

The town was abnormally quiet, even though two days had passed they were still finding their dead and trying to figure out who combusted and who died from some other cause. Asakusa had always been quick to pick itself up and go about its day but this was something different. The fires had destroyed most of the buildings, the Guardhouse was overfull with the homeless even though everyone with a house left were taking in as many as they could - many were frightened that another Demon might appear and Konro wouldn’t be able to beat it this time.

She had been handing out food and blankets to those who needed them when she came across the massive crater Konro had scarred into the land.

It was terrifying to see.

Not only because of what a full-powered Akatsuki could do. Not because it marked where something as catastrophic as a Demon had appeared either. It was where Konro had been willing to sacrifice everything for his Town. Her lover had gone as far as knocking Benimaru out in order to take the Demon on - not because Benimaru couldn’t have handled it but because Konro wanted to make sure someone who loved and could fight for Asakusa as much as him survived.

She could have lost him completely…

Konro had led as many able-bodied men as he could with Benimaru to protect what they could. The crater in front of her didn’t feel real, it felt like if she stepped forward it would dissipate like some sort of mirage. “Y/N,” a thick coat was wrapped around her shoulders as Benimaru came to stand next to her, worry laced his voice as he forced the woman to stand back a little. “You’ll fall in.” He didn’t say anything more as she pulled the coat closer to her body and pressed her face into the material, it was Konro’s coat, it smelt of him - like he did before all of the medicines and charred skin. “I’ll take care of giving the rest of this stuff out. Konro’s asking for you…” What he actually meant was that Konro was in agony and was calling for her.

She turned her head to look at him, her eyes were a little wider than usual and she was trying to smile at him in the same reassuring way she always did. Her hand reached for his hair and she brushed it back a little, stroking her thumb over the bruise on his temple, “Y/N… I’m sorry. I should have done more. I should have been stronger.”

“Y/N…” Konro whispered and tried to reach for her face, wanting to wipe away the stray tear she was trying to ignore - it was agony. His jaw tensed as he tried to clamp down on the pained sounds wanting to escape as he tried to force shredded muscle to work.

Y/N shook her head, “He buried you, Beni… he would have broken your arms and legs if it would have protected you. There was nothing you could have done.” The young man was never going to forgive himself for not being there for Konro, she could see he was already blaming himself and wouldn’t listen to reason. Konro had explained to her how Benimaru had been at his limit, how he had been overheating and for him to be shoved aside so easily further proved that Konro had done right by him.

“…He’s calling for you, Y/N.” He took the supplied from her and headed for the next household that needed help.

Konro appeared to be asleep when she entered the room, the doctor glanced her way before hanging up another IV of who knew what inside, she didn’t care as long as it helped him. There was a large bowl with pinkish water and bloodied bandages soaking inside, shredded packets of medical patches, discarded cooling blankets designed for someone overheating… the room was a mess. The medical rooms were already taken up by the injured so they had moved him to his own room to recover and avoid infections.

“How’s he doing?”

“We’re sedating him as much as we can without killing him, Y/N.” The doctor sighed and began gathering the supplies they’d strewn out of the floor, “It’s tephrosis, his skin is carbonising and the lack of oxygen to his muscles has caused tears all over, he’s got limited mobility in his arms and the muscle around his shoulder blades will take months to heal… if it does.”

Neither spoke as Y/N let that sink in. If Konro couldn’t fight anymore… Strong men were respected in Asakusa, no one challenged the authority of the Hikeshi because it was led by the strongest. Technically, Benimaru was the strongest in a fight but he didn’t have the confidence to lead - someone could easily chip away at his resolve or Benimaru could lose his temper and go too far.

“It’ll heal, he’s stubborn.” The doctor gave her a weak smile and Y/N bit the tip of her tongue, waiting for more bad news.

“His lungs are shot.” There was no gentle way to tell her, “He’s going to be more prone to pneumonia and it won’t be easy for him to fight through it. If he uses his ability excessively not only will it be excruciatingly painful but it will impact his breathing and… the tephrosis could spread.”

It was difficult to imagine what Konro was going through physically and mentally. He wouldn’t regret risking it all for Asakusa but she knew this would be difficult for him. Y/N stood in the doorway with her hands balled up in the material of Konro’s coat, she took in his prone form as if that was going to make her understand how to deal with this. There were cooling blankets beneath him to help fight the inferno beneath his skin, he was pale and even from across the room she could see his skin was clammy as the heat seemed to pour out of him - when was it going to burn itself out?

They hadn’t bandaged his wounds yet, hoping that the air would aid in the healing.

As silently as she could she made her way to his side after the doctor had left, she knelt beside him and reached out to brush the hair from his sweaty forehead, “Y/N?” She nearly jumped at the sound of his voice, her heart hammering against her ribcage as she saw his eyes flutter open weakly, he looked exhausted and her own eyes watered as she saw how much pain was reflected in his. He was doing his best to hide that from her.

“I’m here, Konro,” Y/N leaned down to place a gentle kiss on his lips, “What do you need?” She had never seen him down like this, she had never seen him looking so… weak. He was supposed to be a strong man, he was Asakusa’s protector and now they were saying he would never fight again. Benimaru was torn up inside with guilt. Asakusa was in ashes and its people had lost their usual fighting spirit. “Do you need some water? Or… I can make you something to eat - I c-could…” Her voice got stuck in her throat, the lump that had been forming all morning finally grew too big and she nearly choked on a sob.

“Stop!” She grabbed his hand and lowered it to his side, keeping hold of his hand in both hers, “Please don’t.” Even with her voice breaking she still tried to smile for him, “Don’t hurt yourself anymore, Konro… please.” Y/N could hardly breathe anymore, she pressed her forehead down to his and forced the sadness back - she needed to be strong - “You’ve done enough. You don’t have to give anymore.”

He was the man everyone went to for help or advice, he was the one who brought Benimaru under his wing after the Master had died and kept him on the right track. He gave and gave and gave…

Konro let out a shuddering breath, his lungs ached and he began to cough, every single jolt to his body hurt worse than the previous and he couldn’t repress the pained gasps this time. “It’s okay, Konro, I’m here, I’m gonna look after you.”

“Building was completed this morning, every house has the bare necessities, schools are open, the market  is trading as fairly as they can and we have a few new recruits training to join the Hikeshi by the end of the month.” Benimaru let out a small sigh as he finished his report whilst trying to learn how to treat Konro’s wounds. He wanted to help in any way he could and somehow, being able to properly treat Konro made him feel somewhat better.

“Three months to rebuild the Town?” Konro mused, “Was it supplies or labour?”

“Labour. Builders worked flat out but most of them were laid up till recently.”

Y/N listened quietly as they spoke, occasionally she would explain to Benimaru what she was doing but it was good to have the young man there to distract Konro. Months had passed but he was still in a great deal of pain, still burning on the inside but the Haijima patches seemed to help prevent the spread and provide some pain relief - she just wished it was something they could replicate so they didn’t need to rely on the Empire. She heard the pained hitches in Konro’s breathing and sometimes he would stop mid-sentence when it got too much. Sometimes it was enough to bring Konro to tears and he was hiding it the best he could to protect Benimaru and Y/N.

“H-how are the twins?”

Benimaru handed Y/N more bandage as she started to wrap Konro, “They’re assholes… they’re gonna come by later and tell you a bunch of lies about me - anything they say is a lie and if it’s not they deserved it.”

“…If Y/N and I ever have kids you’re not allowed to babysit.”

Benimaru snorted and gathered up the medical supplies to toss out, “That’s fine with me.” He stood up and headed towards the door, “Though I doubt any kid of yours would be as mean as two little girls on a sugar kick.” Not a moment after the door had slid shut, Y/N and Konro heard a crash and two little voices mocking Benimaru - it was followed shortly by their squeals and the sound of a nearly grown man chasing two little girls.

Y/N laughed at the noise and for a moment it felt like old times.

Life was slowly returning to Asakusa, it wasn’t surprising really, they were a resilient bunch. “We’re all done for today,” She kissed his heavily bandaged shoulder and rested a cooling blanket over the top, “Ready to eat?”

Konro winced as he turned his head to kiss her temple whilst she rested lightly on his shoulder, “Not really but you won’t take that as an answer, right?”

“Nope,” Y/N had been keeping his meal warm to the side and picked it up as she moved to sit just beside him, more than ready to feed him as she had for the last few weeks, “Konro…” he gave a hum in response, recognising in her tone there was going to be something he might not like. “I know you said you wanted to do it but let me put your sword on its stand…”

Since the day of the great fire his sword had sat in the corner of the room against the wall, she had made sure to clean it but he had told her he wanted to put it back. It was like a target he had set for himself, that if he could pick it up and place it on the stand on top of the dresser, it would prove something. It felt like such a sad thing to see it neglected and thrown aside - Konro had saved up and worked so hard to have it made.

Konro shook his head, “Be a little more patient with me, Y/N… besides, look,” There was a little more light in his eyes and he slowly reached out and took the chopsticks from the tray, “I’ll be feeding myself in no time!” he opened and closed the utensils and Y/N smiled back at him.

“Okay, that’s pretty impressive.” It was a good sign, it meant that he was healing and a part of her was relieved - being strong all the time, keeping his mood up and helping where she could was exhausting. Konro wasn’t a burden to her, she loved him and even if she ha to feed their whole life she would. She wondered how he managed. “You’ll be lifting your sword in no time then?”

“Yeah.” He parted his lips as she fed him a mouthful of rice.

Whilst he chewed Y/N bit her bottom lip a little nervously, “A-and then you’ll lift me up next?”

“Carrying you around is one of my favourite things, Y/N” She brushed a piece of rice from the corner of his lip where she had seemed distracted and missed. “What other challenges have you got for me?

Y/N hesitated before placing the bowl down and she reached for one of his hands, carefully bringing it to her belly, doing her best not to pull at him, “Do you think that in six months time… you could lift our baby?”

“…W…?” Konro’s eyes widened and he stared at her in shock, his mind turning over what she had said and as it began to slowly sink in, a smile a much brighter than any he had had since the fire spread across his face. “You…” Unable to think properly, he moved forward and wrapped his arms around her as best he could, it hurt like hell and she was going to yell at him but he didn’t care in that small, hopeful, moment, “I’ll be strong enough for you both.”

You walked through the seventh division a book in hand enjoying the peacefulness, though knowing it could end at any moment if an Infernal popped up. As you nodded at the passing soldiers you grew worried at the lack of seeing Benimaru and his second in command Konro around. Sure Benimaru was a quiet being who mostly kept to himself, you had quite the relationship with Konro. You were more friends than anything and you found that the man would go out of his way to find you and greet you as the day began. But now with his lack of presence you were getting worried. Suffering from Tephrosis, Konro stayed in pain and some days were worse than others. Maybe he was having one of those rougher days dealing with the disease. Placing the bookmark back into place you found yourself running towards his quarters. Panting you stood before he door preparing yourself to knock.

“Lieutenant,” you rapped gently on the door, “I came by to check on you.” You stood there waiting for an answer but nothing but silence was the reply.

“Lieutenant Sagamiya are you alright?”

This time you got an answer in the form of the sliding door opening and coming face to face with your captain Benimaru Shinmon.

“Sir,” you bowed while your captain continued to stare.

“Make yourself useful while I go get more supplies,” Benimaru snapped leaving Konro’s room while you stood there mouth agape. Konro sat upright on his futon the blankets wrapped around his waist. His top half bare glistening with sweat. Despite the pain glazing his eyes he still had the strength to give you a smile.

“Hello (Y/N). Sorry I couldn’t tell you good morning today. I’m incapacitated at the moment so I hope you can forgive me,” he continued to grin, sweat pouring down his face.

“Don’t be ridiculous,” you rushed over touching his hand. Konro looked down at your digits wrapped around his much bigger hand. You released him a blush taking over your features quickly.

“Sorry,” you mumbled before turning your attention to the bowl of water and a soaked wash rag. Dipping it back into the cool water you proceeded to wipe the affected parts of his skin. Konro hissed in pain before they turned into sighs of relief. Being careful of the rough texture of the cloth you gently dabbed it against his skin. You felt tears well in your eyes having to see him such shape. You knew the disease was bad but your heart couldn’t help but break knowing that the man you cared for so much had to deal with this pain on a daily basis.

“Are you okay,” Konro asked breaking the silence as he could see your emotions overwhelming you.

You chuckled bitterly, “You are the one sitting in bed in pain and you’re asking me if I’m alright. I hate seeing you like this. You don’t deserve this horrible disease.”

This time Konro chuckled, “I’d do it all over again if it meant I was keeping everyone safe. I’d do anything to keep you safe especially.”

You paused in your administrations your skin heating in contrast with the cool water dripping down your arm. “I’m nobody special.”

“Don’t put yourself down,” Konro snapped. “I won’t allow someone precious to me talk about themselves that way.”

You laughed,” Yes sir!” Konro chuckled too.

Continuing to aid the horrible heat in his skin you leaned over kissing his cheek, “Thank you Lieutenant.”

“Konro,” he winked.

You stayed with him only leaving to refresh the water until Benimaru returned with fresh bandages and medicine. After patching up the suffering second in command did you leave Konro’s room. You continued on through your day though you couldn’t stop thinking about a certain dark eyed Lieutenant.

You had finally tucked the twins in as Konro left Waka’s room, finishing the work that was assigned to him as his second in command

Safe to say, he wasn’t the only one enthralled by your beauty. The waiter for your table seemed to notice as well seeing that he forgot to introduce himself and put down the menu’s when he locked eyes with you.

You raise an eyebrow the same time Konro “clears his throat”, snapping the waiter out his trance. He’s puts down the menu and just walks away.

Konro has a calm face but you can tell he was slightly irritated. Your giggle makes him calm down though and you guys continue on with your date night as if nothing ever happened.

The same waiter comes back but this time, with a cocky attitude and determination to ignore your boyfriend. Just to keep the peace, you order for the both of you guys and send him on his way without a second glance.

But when he comes back the third time with your drinks and food, he mistakes your kindness for interest and starts blatantly flirting with you.

Konro likes to think of himself as a patient man. Hell, so does everybody else. He’s known for being the calm while Benimaru the storm but one thing he had never tolerated was disrespect.

He stands up, slowly pushing the chair out of the way, and walks towards the waiter who was still shamelessly flirting with you. He puts his hand on his shoulder and squeezes hard, a fake smile plastered on his face

“I’d really appreciate it if you didn’t flirt with my girlfriend”

There was a reason why konro was a lieutenant and you could tell the waiter learned why as he struggled to keep the fear off his face. When Konro let’s go, he scrambles back to the kitchen.

The manger comes out and apologizes and goes on and on about how “he’s the new kid from the city “ and “doesn’t know the rules around here” before he says that the foods on the house (not that you guys were going to pay anyways since it’s Konro)

You guys thank him before he tries to return back to the conversation but you cut him off.

“Aren’t you suppose to be the rational one?” You asked, a smile creeping along your features. He takes your hand and traces little circles into it.

You sniffle, rubbing your face as you push yourself up on the couch.

A smile plays on your lips when you realize you're wearing your boyfriend's sweater, amused that he'd been patient enough to put it on you after you'd fallen asleep. You're grateful for it, though, especially as you slip out from under your blanket and realize just how cold it is.

You glance over at the window as you tug the sweater collar up to your nose, admiring the afternoon sun as you breathe in Konro's familiar scent - it's heavy, spicy with the herbs you use to make his salve every week, and warm from his skin (you know it's warm because of you, but the idea that he'd taken it off of his body to put it on yours has you resisting the urge to kick your feet in infatuation, so it's easy to pretend the warmth is left over from him).

"It's getting late," you say, mostly to yourself, but his answering hum causes you to look over your shoulder.

"Nearly three…" He offers you a soft smile, sleepy eyes looking you over before he asks, "You hungry? I just heated some miso."

"Mmm... yeah." You get up and make your way to the kitchen, admiring him now that he’s tugged his kimono over his thermal. "You look...so cozy."

"Let me guess, you want my kimono now."

"Would you give it to me?"

"You don’t have to ask."

You smile fondly, pecking his lips once you’re near enough . "I just want to snuggle you up again."

He smirks, surprising you by offering his bowl. You don't take it; instead you let him tilt the soup into your mouth and sigh at the warmth that spreads through your body.

"How can you tell?"

"Because I like yours more," you admit as you wrap your arms around him from behind and lean into his back. "Although mine does taste good from your hand."

"Sometimes I forget you're crazy."

You laugh, feeling him swallow as you press a kiss to the back of his shoulder. "Sorry I fell asleep... I know we have way too much cooking to do to be laying about."

"Don't worry- I'm just getting up, too." One of his hands settles over where yours are resting on his stomach. "Meats seasoned...your dough is resting. I prepped your cookies, too."

"I think we have different definitions of 'just woke up,' my love."

He chuckles, the sound seeming to reverberate through you. "I kept you up this morning," he reminds you, causing heat to pool in your stomach, slow and sweet as you remember last night. "I wanted to make up for it."

"I appreciate it... Thank you for your sweater. It’s keeping me nice and warm."

"Ah- I was just...returning the favor."

"Konro!"

He full on laughs,  patting your hands before slipping out of your hold "Yeah, yeah. You work on your roti, I'll heat your soup and put the cookies in the oven... the sooner we finish the sooner we can get back to bed."

“What’s with Captain Obi and (Y/N)-san?” Shinra asked confused.

The fourth pillar can’t contain the curiosity he held inside as he watched his two superiors interact with each other. You and Obi were both discussing things in the front of the white board. Various paper clippings are pasted and a huge map of Tokyo. Holding a red marker in your right hand while pointing at various locations while Obi was giving you possibly directions on what the next step should be.

Maki perked up at the question. Leaving her paperworks behind as she peered besides Shinra. “What do you mean Shinra-kun?” Looking at her captain and the woman besides the man.

“Uhm, you know, the way they looked at each other.” He said unsure. “It’s like there is something more that meets the eye.” He added.

“You’re right Shinra-san.” Iris replied, placing the cup of teas in their respective tables.

A huge realization dawned upon in Maki. Blush painted in her cheeks and a comical flowers and pink background surrounding her. “Could it be?!” Maki asked excitedly.

Iris giggled softly before agreeing with her. “Truth is they’re married.”

“Really?!” The two said in unison. As if the truth couldn’t be possible. “Oh, to be a bride.” The second gen witch commented. Hands both in resting in her cheeks as he lets her imagination gone wild. Her blush intensifying the more she thinks about it.

“Since when?” Shinra asked. “I think it was two years after the 8th was established. (Y/N)-san’s transferred from the first and who knows they were classmates in the academy, Captain and (Y/N). And now here they are.” Iris reminisced. A small smile present in her lips, telling how you and the captain got together.

“It doesn’t show but when they look at each other. You can see it. That’s why.” Shinra nodded, satisfied that his curiosity is clear from the nun regarding to his two superiors.

“What are you three talking about?” Lieutenant Hinawa’s authoritative voice cuts off them. A “eep” came from Iris at the sudden intrusion and a two “Yes, Lieutenant” came from Shinra and Maki. Hinawa’s eyes wide and was glaring at them. “Go back to work.” He ordered, with that Iris grabbed the tray and Shinra and Maki continued their never-ending paperworks.

The first rays of sun seeped through the bedroom you and Obi shared. You were woken up by the harsh light of the morning rays of sun. Shuffling around to get yourself in a better position, a heavy arm draped around your soft middle. Latching it in your wide waist. You looked at the man who was holding you. His unruly dark hair splayed over in the pillows. His usually eyes is awfully peaceful. You’ll never get used to it. You like it much better when he’s strict and commanding befitting his position as the captain of the 8th but nonetheless you love this man.

You went to stroke his cheek. Memorizing every lines and crevice of his face then you went to caress his lips. Thumb grazing over his slightly chapped lips. You pressed a chaste kiss to his cheeks before getting back to your position. Your head resting in your hand as your elbow hits the pillows as you wait for the man to wake up.

Obi can feel your warm touch all over his face, followed by the your lips touching his cheek. He pretended to be still asleep as he relished in your warm touch. The way your hands contact with his feels like being caressed by a mother to her newborn. Feathery light with a hint of care and loving in every touch.

The Evangelist and the White-Clad plus those human combustions, he wonders if you’re getting sick in times like this. He wants and needed the life you deserved the most.

You meet Obi’s gaze at you. The uncertainty clouding on those dark eyes of him. “Akitaru, I know that look and you already know the answer.” You sternly scolded him.

You knew Obi, from head to toe, to his little quirks. He was the man you love after all. All the years pondering on why he was the man you ended up with. Why it has have to be him and you knew it from the moment after you answered yes. All the nights with you sleeping first and him joining you later. Kissing your bare shoulders while you were pretending to be asleep whispering he can take care of you. “I can take care of you.” He would murmur and then you would shift from your pretend sleep. Saying “I know. You always do.” A smile would take over you and it was enough to reassure him. Joining you in the bed and holding you in arms, afraid to let go.

A sigh followed by his smile. The cloudiness disappearing uppn hearing those words from you. “I’m one lucky man, am I?” he asked. Chuckling at his words. Holding your hand and rubbing the back of it.

“You sure is. That’s why I married you.” Intertwining your hand with his and kissing it.

Behind closed doors, this is the two of you were accustomed. The place where you can shed the doubts and be true to yourselves. The whispers and moans of how you both truly loved each other.

Behind closed doors, where the strong and reliable captain can be weak and vulnerable to the person he loves and cherished always.

“That’s fine.” His voice is light, a carefree and familiar tone. “Scars are hot, right?” You smile at that; always the optimist. It’s something that had drawn you to him. That and the wide expanse of his body. Obi was hard muscles and soft glances; an intelligent and noble mind hidden beneath an almost obnoxious charisma. And he kept you up at night, as you buried your fingers in your cunt, wishing he were there.

“Something like that,” you choke out, trying to stomp down on the thoughts of his skin pressed against yours. Obi hums at your response, pleased at your reaction. He shifts, one of his legs lightly wrapping around your calf, drawing you closer, and you glance at his face, prepared to chastise him. But when you look up, he is very close to you, much closer than you thought, and his half-lidded eyes are full of something dark and captivating. And it makes your stomach flip.

“Do you think they’re hot?” You swallow past the lump in your throat, unable to stop your eyes from flickering to his lips. You wonder how warm they’d feel, if they’d be soft or slightly rough, if you’d melt into a puddle at the first brush against yours.

You could tell him you always thought he was hot, or you could close the distance so easily, get a taste of what you’ve been craving. And the temptation almost gets you, but…

“Captain…” you trail off, brows pinching in concern at his rank.

“You don’t have to be formal, Y/N.” Your head spins from the lack of space. He’s too close, and the room is too warm, and you’re lucky you finished the stitch because your hands are shaking now. Obi reaches out to grasp them, a calloused thumb stroking at your skin, and when you meet his eyes again you know he’s going to kiss you.

It’s a thunderstorm for me right now so I wrote this

Even the Captain needs a break sometimes

“What are you doing?!” Obi called out of his office window down to you, standing in the courtyard in the pouring rain

“What?!” You called back, unable to hear him through the storm

“What are you doing?!!” He tries again louder and you laugh and cup your ear “what?!” He feels his heart race as he watches the glee in your expression, yelling the same sentence again louder.

you definitely heard him and he knows you heard him but you giggled and asked what again, making him shake his head, a smile tugging at his lips as he holds up a finger and closes his window.

A minute later the door is opening and he’s coming out with an umbrella

“What are you doing?” He asks quieter now that he was right in front of you, the rain loud on the plastic of the umbrella.

“Having a little fun” you respond and press up on your toes, your lips connect softly to his chin before you turn and run out into the rain, laughing and spinning with your arms open.

After spinning a few times you look back to him and hold out your hand, beckoning him to join you.

He looks up to his office window and meets the disapproving eyes of his Lieutenant but he drops the umbrella in an instant, laughing, boots splashing through the rain as he takes your hand and spins you around in circles like a dance

You end up laughing so hard you’re clinging to his chest as your feet slide along the concrete, him holding you up with ease. When you stop to catch your breath you reach up and run your fingers through his wet hair before your hand slides down his chest, his black shirt clinging to his soaked skin, muscles warm and hard as you feel their contours through his shirt.

You look up into his eyes, warm and soft as he smiles down at you. The rain was slowing and you could see a few drops clinging to his eyelashes and eyebrows “I’m glad you came out with me” you say and he gives you a teasing grin

“What was that?” He asks and you lean in closer with a laugh “you heard me!” You say and he laughs again cupping his ear “come again? The rain is so loud!” You slap his chest and decide to just show him, grabbing his neck and pulling him down as you pushup on your toes and press your lips to his, smiling when he begins to kiss you back.

“Thank you Obi” you whisper into his ear before running off towards the door of the cathedral, Obi on your heels before he remembers to turn back for the umbrella.
