Discovering what truly feels ‘you’ in an algorithm era.
I absolutely love this article because it reminds me of a time when discovering new media required more than scrolling on social media. You had to go out of your way—flip through magazines and coffee table books, go to a record store and listen to a random CD—to find new media. If all of your discovery is reliant on social media algorithms, you’re curating your taste entirely based on convenience. Listening to albums from start to finish is so back. Reading through magazines is so back.
We’re fully in the Information Age where the ones who know when to log off and on will be the tastemakers. The internet is riddled with information but not all of it is applicable, relevant, or trustworthy, so tastemakers also know how to use technology well while withstanding innovations.
But one thing remains evergreen for me: If print has no fans, I’m dead.
