Wake Up and Change- R.D. Campaign
RA Door Deck, created by Darrell Frye. Identifies each RA in both respective buildings.
In October RAs Matt Ellis, Louis Wilson and Michael Cox put on a program for the residents of the East and West Suites who wanted to experience Caribbean culture. Music and food were provided by the staff and the overall turnout was great.
From October 7th to November 4th the East and West Suites teamed up to work-out with our residents. This program was designed around wellness and safety. Prior to being the routine, RA Matthew Ellis and myself gave background information on the importance of a solid workout and diet amount African-American Men.
For Labor Day the Suites staff provided a BBQ outing for its residents and fellow guests. This also provided the RAs with the opportunity to meet with fellows and facilitate friendships with them.
#BETYOUWONTHITMETHO | OTIS MOSS SUITES’ HERO PROGRAM.| Thursday, October 4th, 2012 | Cosby LL28
The program focused on a “Dramatic” approach towards Violence against Women.
The skits performed included scenes of Physical Abuse, Verbal Abuse, Financial Abuse, & Emotional/Mental abuse.
The participants (about 30+) engaged in the conversation with past experiences and personal reflections.
The program was an overall success, and the Otis Moss Suites Staff was glad to work with the Resident Advisers of Spelman College to promote this event.
In October I partnered with LLC RAs Jermaine Blackly and Jordan Bryd to put on an HIV/AIDS Awareness program in the quad. During the event I provided music while Jordan and Jermaine handed out pamphlets containing information on contraception and overall awareness.
In September I partnered with the voter commissions board of the SGA to provide students with an opportunity to register for the upcoming primary elections. Our turnout was great and because we publicized at a market Friday which was held in archer hall, our event was able to reach even more students.
In light of 4/20, I spoke with many residents who did not have an understanding of the detrimental effects of smoking marijuana. This passive program highlights those effects while hopefully discouraging residents from partaking in smoking actives in the dorms and in general. The passive program is located in the East Suites on the 1st floor and will remain up until the end of the year.
Recycling Awareness Cont. - This is the follow-up to the recycling awareness program of last semester. This section highlights the Don't's of recycling and can be located anywhere in the East Suites above a recycling bin.
For valentine's day,the brothers of Phi Mu Alpha sang to couples around the AUC. The outcome was amazing. The ladies of Spelman College felt appreciated and we were truly humbled by the experience.
For Martin Luther King Day, the Boner Office offered a chance for students to make a change doing community service. The brothers of Phi Mu Alpha lent their services to mentoring at different schools in the area under the "Atlanta Cares" program.
On February 18th, 2012 I created a passive program, centered around ending violence against women, recently named H.E.R.O. The program highlights celebrities who were effected by domestic violence. It also highlights domestic violence statistic and places to get help on both Spelman and Morehouse Campus. This program has received a lot of attention from the female visitors who enter the suites. They are glad that the issue is being highlighted and many of them look forward to the next program.
The members of the AUC recycling club, reached out to members of our respective residents halls to increase membership in the club as well as celebrate the accomplishments of the semester. Our goal is to create a following of recycling within the AUC that will give us campus recognition.
In an attempt to make the Suites and Morehouse College more of a "Green Campus" myself and RA Ja-Mes Watson, came up with this passive program for the year. This will display the proper ways to recycle to the benefit of the college. Since the introduction of the program, residents in the suites have been overflowing the recycling receptacles with recyclable material. It consider the program to be a success.
In light of World Aids Day on November 30th, with the help of Ms. Redd, I developed a passive program for the East Suites. This program was centered around Aids and HIV awareness and was geared towards increasing awareness and rallying students to be tested on November 30th. Many of the Residents were greatful for the event. The overall turnout for HIV/Aids testing was substantial as well.
On Tuesday September 27th, RA Ja-mes Watson and Myself were involved in a campus wide Electronic Waste Drive. As avid members of the club we have been constantly striving to make Morehouse more of a "Green" Institution. The East and West Suite buildings now house, 8-10 recycling receptacles thanks to feedback from this event. A very well done event, with dedicated members.
